I agree. At the prerelease I was leaning over the table and squinting like some kind of old man to read the mana cost on someone else's card. Never mind why I needed to know the cost. I can't remember why.
I'm not sure where I read it, but someone described it as the ultimate cover-your-a** move. If people don't like it, wizards can just say that they were timeshifted cards only and not meant to be the new cardface.
If people love it, they can claim that that's what they've had planned all along.
