**cough cough** Hello and welcome to the Vegetarian Bowl! As you may or may not know, I am a fan of black and white photography. & so it only seems fit that I would run a black and white contest. RULES/INFO1. The first rule of the Vegetarian Bowl is: YOU DO NOT TALK ABOUT THE VEGETARIAN BOWL. (Kidding) 2. All submissions must be black and white 3. Photos can date back from anytime (feel free to use anything from your collection) 4. All photos must be titled! (The title 'untitled' does not count!) 5. Photoshop is okay to use. Keep your use to a minimum though please. 6. Subject matter is open. 7. Please submit any colored originals with your black and white submissions. 8. You must tell one other member of this guild about the "vegetarian bowl" and add their gaia ID to the bottom of your submission form. (Mod ID's cannot be use. Try and meet someone new biggrin ) EDIT: 9. Color tones (blue, red/copper, speia, selenium) are okay for use in this contest as long as the photo was processed in the darkroom. Dawn.Is.Dandy [ Spare Change] Heather[[Face]] [ Bird's Eye View] Duke.Lychee [ Horse looking longingly at the glistening apple I'm eating] Phoenixliv [ Snuggles] xXCold_FireXx [ Tea For One] Neztnerol [ Caught In The Act] arphillios [ I Can See You [telescope self pt.ii]] Keeper of The Cheerios [ Mini Charlie Choo Choo] Ellocin [ Lilacs in bloom] EDIT: I would like to say sorry to those who enetered but did not follow directions, your entries are non-eligible to win. [Just so we're clear I entered a competition but I didn't follow directions. I didn't win. The judges said if I would've followed directions I would've taken first. Yeah..walked away with nothing.] DEADLINEMay 20th 2007 PRIZE [updated]1st Place: 2,007g.2nd Place: 1,234g.3rd Place: 999g.PM me with any further questions! :]

Just to make sure I have it all correct
Requirements are that it has to be black and white. No time restrictions as to when the photos were taken. Must have titles. Photoshop is a-ok. No subject requirements, just good photos. Can submit color originals if the image wasn't originally bw. Andddd we have to advertise to other guild members to be eligible.

No offense to [GHC], but I like this competition more than the main one. I dislike that I have to go out and take photos specifically for the competitions, and I have other photos I'd like to submit. I don't have access to a darkroom or a good digital camera at the moment, so being able to post old shots is great for me. So, AGVeg, I heart chu! You seriously made my day when I got your message about this. Plus, I love bw even though my last few rolls have been crap since I took them for a class where I had four years experience and all my classmates had barely touched a camera.

I've got to be honest, that does kind of offend me. It's not like I put the rule there for no reason, I'm not just trying to make your lives harder. A lot of it has to do with trying to inspire you guys to actually go out and TAKE photos, work for it. It seems to me that just allowing you to hunt through your own photos is taking the easy way out, you don't learn anything from using your old photos and you certainly don't grow at all.
If my help is unwelcome, though, perhaps the rules should just be changed.

I agree with Dawn.is.Dandy.. Some people don't have the option of going out to get good photos within two weeks notice. Gaia is turning into a kid/young teenager site, so people (me bring one of them) can't drive and they have school, sports, work, *CoughandSATClassesandDriversEdcough*..It's nice to practice and all, but I've always thought this should be more of a fun thing, to make friends, discuss photography, and improve a bit..People produce better work when they're not rushed... I mean, I know it's the Gaia Institute of Photography, but I didn't think it would actually be so similar to a school...

[Girl Hearts Crayons] I've got to be honest, that does kind of offend me.
No, I understand why you put the rule there, and I follow it. It's understandable that you want to inspire people to go out and take photos, my bitching is more because it makes it very inconvienent for me, since I don't have access to a decent workspace right now. I don't think your help is unwelcome at all and i feel like this is the best photo guild out there. I sowwwwyyyy cry !!! I mean, the compitions you're doing really focus on a lot of the technical aspects, which do require a recent piece since you can't judge technical skill off of older pieces. It's logical. I really didn't mean to offend you, I just wanted to say that this competition kind of voids some of the problems I have in participating in the main competition, since I literally can't afford to process any of my work to add in. This is the best photo guild out there from what I've seen with a lot of good feedback and great talent circulating, so please don't take my opinion to heart. I'm just a financially challenged college student with a grudge against not having a darkroom to process in, a 3 megapixel point and shoot digital, and $20 scanner. I didn't mean to say that the other compition was bad or I hated the rules, they just don't work for where I am with my current situation. I've seen some great work in the last competition and wish I could put my best foot forward, but can't. Anywaysssss......Sorry for the insanity.
