I guess this is kinda of a weird question, but I was wondering what TCG games have ya'll played in the past and totally hated.
The TCGs that i've played or at least dabbled in are:Magic, Yugioh, Pokemon, Duelmasters, Rage(this shitty short lived game with Werewolves, Hecatomb, and VS system. And by far VS system was the one I totally hated. I'm probably alone on this, since it seems a lot of people actually really love VS.
But when I tried playing(Pretty much when the game first came out and there was only 1 set). The X-men guys were totally broken and just ruined the whole game for anyone not playing X-men. I hated that there was no real "removal", the game was also really dull, no room for cool combos, or style or tricks, it was just "My guy has a bigger number on him then yours does, I win". I hated the art, I hated the way the game played out, it was just awful.
Of course, I totally don't mean to piss off anyone who does like VS. And i totally understand that im basing my opinion of the game on the game when it just came out so it might have gotten cooler since, I guess when it comes down to it, I was never a big fan of all that super hero kinda stuff.
Anywho, any TCG games ya'll thought totally sucked and want to rant about?

Jihad takes my vote of "nay," because the rules were horribly complex - if you hadn't played the game, which, when I tried playing it against my brother, I hadn't.
We spent a few weeks trying to figure out what "aggravated damage" was.
Oddly enough, we had fun with Rage, until I got a Faerie Cloak, which was basically an "I win" card. Imagine a card that gives you protection from 2 and 3 cost cards, and you'll have an idea of how grossly unfair it was.

Hehe, I haven't played Rage since i was about 9 and I'm pretty sure we weren't playing it right. I dont remember much from it other then that there was guns and wolves. I recall seeing packs of Jihad, but never actually played it. But they always had stuff like that at our old card store.

Jihad was...weird. You had 20 blood points (like hp), and (like Magic) recovering them generally wasn't very good/easy. Yet, at the same time, it was how you played your cards - so you basically had 20 mana to spend for the whole game.

I played VS around the time of marvel origins as well and I remember the X men being really underpowered. They didn't pick up until... hell I don't think they're competative now. Brotherhood was the abusive faction in set one as I recall, though not completely dominating. Just pretty bad. I despise the WotC Star Wars game for reasons having nothing to do with the system (which is dice based so I don't care). WotC took the license from Decipher who had an excellent game with a huge playerbase and then did crap all with it. I think maybe 3 people bought SWTCG cards (exagerating of course but I do know that the SWCCG (D's game) world championships have consistently been larger than those for SWTCG and the CCG has been out of print for over 5 years!). I wasn't even playing TCGs at the time but I'm still sore over it. Dot Hack may be the game that's given me the most ulcers and grey hairs. Not because I dislike it but rather because I enjoy the engine very much but the freaking company kept screwing things over. The first set had a serious power curve problem and no sooner was that fixed by the second set than they printed a promo card that created the Hack equivelent of the stasis lock deck (equally annoying and equally powerful). Then there was the tournement rating system. Having created a game based on an MMORPG property D decided it would be cool to have players gain "experience" and "levels" for playing in tournements. They then decided that it would be cool to make said things matter in game. So the higher level player gets to go first. In a game that's completely tempo based. Where play skill and money is not a factor going first often means game and they tied it to somthing that has nothing to do with the game itself (how many tournements you can go to). To top this they printed promo cards that could only be played by "spending" levels represented by "level up" cards. And the effects on the cards that only high level players could take advantage of? Time walk and Mindslaver (among others). I am exagerating the seriousness there somewhat but not a huge amount. The overpowered tournement promos ended up banned but not before a great deal of wailing and gnashing of teeth. Then, just in time for the first Dot Hack worlds, someone came up with a deck type that dominated on a level pretty similar to skullclamp affinity. That got fixed but not until after worlds. That was pretty much how the game went until it went out of print. I really enjoyed playing it but dealing with the soap oprea that was the competative scene was exhausting. Quote: Jihad was...weird. You had 20 blood points (like hp), and (like Magic) recovering them generally wasn't very good/easy. Yet, at the same time, it was how you played your cards - so you basically had 20 mana to spend for the whole game. I remember playing a few games of Jihad with a friend and some starter decks. Way back before I started playing TCGs in general. The whole "your blood pool is your mana" thing confused the hell out of me. Tying resources and life total together can work (see the life deck mechanic) but 20 just isn't enough.

The HArry Potter game grinds my gears...
It was a cheap knock off of magic only lightly concealed. and the art seemed to be the rejected artists from garbage pail kids

I've dabbled into Yu-gi-oh when it first came out, Duel Masters, Mech warrior (non tcg) and now WOW.
One thing that bothers me if the power level and overall wordiness of some yugioh cards. I get bored trying to read the whole thing. Duel Masters aka "magic lite" was okay but, I guess magic lite just didn't pull it weight since I haven't heard anything from it in a while.
The mech warriors figuine game bugged the crap outta me because of the outrageous investment just to make a freakin army!
Wow is bothering me a little because of their apparent policy of "This character won some large tournament. Lets design a set to destroy it" I don't think it'll stay afloat much longer with that policy. Even if it is kept afloat its only because the online players will just keep buying packs so they can have their precious loot cards.

In yugioh, if the top five in the world tournament use a combo, the combo must be broken and get sbanned. In magic they try to prevent this by only allowing the 6 or seven newest sets except in specific tournies. In DBZ, the retooled the whole game and essentially banned 12 sets and 4 formats pokemon, to be honest, this game managaes to evolve fast enough...Is there even a banned list?

Let's see now...
My first TCG was Decipher's Star Wars CCG and I loved it. I'm a huge Star Wars fan and this really caught the feel of the movies to me. While the first sets were exceedingly simplistic (Who has more power in a fight), the later sets become far more complex and devious in some cases. This is probably one of the best CCG's I played, right up there with MTG.
After Lucas bought a major portion of Hasbro, thus owning part of WotC and stripped Decipher of the SW License, I got majorly pissed off and refused to play the new version. The store owner of the shop I went to was offering me free packs to teach others to play since I fixed his PC's all the time for free. I politely declined. I'm still pissed about it, and it's been like 5-6 years.
I've also played Yu-Gi-Oh and Dragon Ball Z. I learned to play Yu-Gi-Oh when a friend of mine bought two starter decks so I thought I'd try it out. I found it to be...lacking, for lack of a better word (heheh). It didn't have the same feel of synergy or awesome combos I could find in MTG. My friend really liked it, so he started buying packs and playing with people in his area while I stuck with MTG.
Then we got it in our heads to make cross over rules for these two. I've posted on this in the Table Top Forum and laid out what we had figured out from a lot of play testing. Though those rulings were made up in Yu-Gi-Oh's early days.
At the same time, my friend also started into Dragon Ball Z. Not a bad game, and again this was in the game's early days. Some of the stuff seemed ridiculously over powered which killed the game for me. Also, from the early cards, once someone started to get ahead on you it was damn hard to catch up again. Most times if someone managed to take you down to Power Level 0 or close to it, you were screwed the rest of the game.
So yeah, probably the one I disliked the most was both Yu-Gi-Oh and Dragon Ball Z. I didn't like the rules much, I found them imbalanced and some of the art on both seemed exceedingly cheesy.

Craptastic games include - Ultimate Fighting, X-files, the Warhammer 40K card game, Star Trek CCG, and, in some instances, Mythos.
Mythos had a tendency to be two-player solitaire if nobody was drawing monsters.

wow... x-files has a ccg??
the only tcg i've ever played is MTG and Pokemon and VS for a little.
i played pokemon when it came out, i liked it a lot then but only because i had a lot of cards and could beat everyone else in my elementary school.
i enjoyed VS but i think only because i loved playing with comic book characters. the game was kind of complex, and i'm sure it's more complex now, but it was not nearly as exciting as magic. i dont' think u can make a creatureless deck in vs for example...
yu-gi-oh looks cool to me, but everyone tells me it is very simple which is not exciting. i still might try it sometime.
i still want to learn how to play netrunner, but i'm kind of a haptic learner i need to play to understand... and no one else plays so...
i still can't believe x-files got a card game. i think that's hilarious.

Actually, SimCity got a card game, too.
I'm also going to have to go with Wyvern - the rules weren't very well set out, and it wasn't particularly clear exactly what did what in what situations, making for a very confusing play.
Ironically enough, it resembled early Magic - there were several powerful cards, yes, but, for the most part, many cards felt underpowered.
Netrunner is freaking....weird. But it can be fun. I'll leave it at that.

I hated Yu-Gi-Oh and small TCG's based off of shows like DBZ. Did Digimon have a TCG? 'Cause if it didn't, I hated that too.
