Deja vu is often described as the sensation of having been some place or meeting someone before even though you cannot remember it. Some scientists say that it stems from the brain creating false memories. Personally, I have experienced dreams "coming true" - that is, I dream of something and when I awaken it happens that same day. What are your opinions on this, if you will, phenomena? And, have you ever experienced it (if so, may you please tell what/when?)

Deja Vu. Deja Vu is different from these other phenomena, by definition. A person who experiences Deja Vu does not have any clue whatever that something is GOING to happen (like Precognition), but merely has the sensation (during and afterward) of having already experienced the scene.
xp xd This is already in my enigmas and mysteries thread but no worries young miss. I'll leave it as is and let our other memebers discuss it too.

The thing about Deja Vu is the brain makes odd connections. When it encounters something out of the ordenary, it will look through it's information, and pick the best reaction it can. So, because your brain is re-using a reaction, it seems like the circumstance has already happened.

I personally feel it's precognition. That's my opinion though.

And yes, I know they differ, but it is all very curious nonetheless.

Deja Vu, to me seems like the human brain is either slowly evolving or is just making very weird electronic connections while we sleep/day dream. Personaly I think it could be a form of failed precognition, where you can distinctly remember what was going to happen. Deja Vu on the other hand you get this eerie feeling that you've been or seen something before when you really havn't.

In my oppinions, I believe sensations of "being in a place before but not remembering " is prehaps a old life that journied there.
Maybe the brain does give faulse hope to someones feelings(It certainly does this in hormonal stages of teens) yet, I choose to think that , You must remember it for a reason. Why on earth else would you remember the sensation of being there, but don't remember it?
I've never experienced waking up to something i've drempt about/seen happenning so, i cannot comment.

Hm... I had a feeling of Deja Vu yesterday... but it couldn't have just been my mind making false memories.... My mom was getting that feeling too. We saw a picture of someone, who we couldn't have ever met before... but still, we felt like we did. Any explanation for this?

You could have just as easily seen this person before whether it be ina picture television Et cetera.

Obscurus I've dreamed things and then days, weeks, or months later I've had the feeling of having lived through an experience already, then I remember that it was a dream I had before. I personally feel it's precognition. That's my opinion though. Its interesting you should say that. I didnt realise other people had the same kind of dream I have occasionally- the one where you wake up almost remembering it. Then since it doenst mean anything- its just a dream, forget about it. Till something happens and I think- wait a minuet! I find this very confusing- as it conflicts with my ideas of how the universe works. I prefer chance over set destiney. I find comfort though, in knowing that Im only human and its just not possible for me to understand many things, such as time.

It leaves me paying very close attention to my dreams and even makes me a bit paranoid as I don't know what ones (if any) will actually happen. And I believe in a malleable idea of fate. Our fates are set, but in such a manner that we don't know it and make our choices anyway. I think I prefer the term "destiny".

I read a technical explanation of how deja vu occurs, and it was really quite interesting. It said that sometimes a set of sensory nerve signals will reach the brain at different times - within split seconds of each other, rather than simultaneously. So your brain "remembers" the one set, but can't actually process the signal until the other set arrives. I don't know how true this might be, but it made sense to me at the time.
But there have been plenty of times in my life where I have dreamed about a place, and for whatever reason, the image of it sticks in my head. And years later, I will find myself in a place I have never been before, faced with the very same image out of my dreams. A few years ago, I dreamed about a house with two balconies (it was a really inane dream, but the image of the house stuck with me), and sure enough, when I went on a trip to Biloxi, Mississippi, I found the very same house. Exactly the same as my dream.
My grandmother, I remember, told me about a vivid dream she'd had where a man tried to abduct me. Two weeks later, a man really did try to abduct me. Its scary sometimes how that works out.

Gosh, I wish I knew how it happened. Eliminate that element of surprise that Deja Vu seems to leave one with. XD
Well, the most recent time I've experienced it was about two weeks ago. I was out riding horses with my family, and they all wanted to run ahead, so I told them I'd catch up. ((Not a good idea for one who's directionally challenged like me XD)) So yeah, I'm lost, trying to find a signal on my cellphone so I can call my parents and tell them where I'm at. For some reason, I felt compelled to go to this cliff thing outlooking a lake, and it was breathtaking. Then I got that Deja Vu feeling like I'd already done this, and I knew how to get down to the shore from there...it was effing weird. To top off the weirdness, I had signal down there @___@ I was like "Wtf?!" *calls mom* XD I don't know if you'd consider that a Deja Vu moment, but it sure felt like it. :/

Well I forget what specific phrase it is for this particular version of deja vu. So ill probably look it up real quick.
