Okay, so I talked to a former exchange whore on the site (I think it was a year or more ago, he stopped) and he said when buying, try to make your avatar look well... n00bish. So this way people will suspect you have less to give, and might accept your lower offer. Do you find this true for buying, or no?

Hm.. I guess that could be true. Either that or they'll think that you're too newbie to exchange with and disregard you. :/

Haha, I usually dress in all peasent cloths. Just because it was a style I made back in the day. I didnt want to flaunt off items. Because, well. I didnt have any. My main goal, was just, Get as much gold as possible! rofl
So, I would equip items once in a while, just to see how they looked, but never saved the avatar. Now that im a retired (Not Retard. Bad Borat.) exchanger/vendor, I wear what I like smile
But back to the subject. I dont think that is the case. I mean, if you have like, bunnies, or a halo, or something "Pre-November '03" then you might want to consider not wearing them all the time, to get better deals. But when it comes down to it, if you do actually have something from before November 2003, then most people who exchange are gonna know you. ninja
So, main point.
I dont think it matters what you wear, just as long as you're a good talker.
