I found this bunch of rules and guidelines in another forum and I though they were usefull ^^ Its snipped and changed to mesh it in with our guild. Most of this is for avatar based subforums but anything about profiles falls into the same rules
GENERAL RULES
1. Always follow the T.O.S
2. Do not make a rate me thread when wearing less then 5 items. Most ATer's see 5 under 5 items as being incomplete, so instead of asking for an overall rate ask for a rate on your progress, as well as suggestions and ways to make the outfit come together.
3. Do not flame when you rate. Posting things such as 0/10, .05/10, or gonk gonk gonk /10 do not count as rates, and are not helpful. When posting rates like this it leads to trolling & flaming.
4. Do not make a avatar contest if you don't know what your doing. Read the Info about contests further down the page
5. Learn how to rate and what the ratings scale is before rating people.
6. If you notice someone flamming, breaking the T.O.S, or a misplaced thread please use the report thread or report post buttons (Wichever one is more suitable). If it is an extreme situation contact an online Moderator, please use your best judgement when doing this.)
7. Do not bump your threads unless they are twords the very bottom of the forum.
8. When going into a thread be sure to read the full first post. Also if you happen to see "closed", "gone" or something along those titles the person is obviously not thier so just let the thread die and move on to another.

HOW TO'S OF RATING
One of the main things in the avatar subforum is rating one another. . Don't let them get reduced to a flame. So this section is here to help everyone remember what a fair rate is, and also to help everyone new learn how to rate.
THE DO'S OF RATING. --> Do rate people in a polite manner. --> Do be honest, no matter who it is you are rating. --> Do be helpful, give suggestions and comments to help out the person you are rating.
THE DONT'S OF RATING. --> Don't be baised about items you don't like personally. --> Don't be baised about specific colors, or color schemes you do not like personally. --> Don't be rude, and flame. If you don't like the persons outfit at all, don't rate them with a number if you cannot be nice about it. Instead give them some suggestions on how to improve thier outfit. --> Don't rate someone highly just because they are your friend, be honest.
OTHER THINGS TO REMEMBER. --> If someone is wearing only a couple items, but they don't seem to match very well. Don't flame them because of this and write something like you suck/10. Instead, give them a lower number or no number at all, as well as some suggestions on what they need to improve on. -->We are big on originality, but does that mean just because its plain or all black its unoriginal? Well the answer is no, just because its plain or all black dosen't mean its unoriginal, take a close look at the item combinations and how often you see them now before saying its unoriginal and giving a lower rate. --> Thier are many different styles found amoungst the furs here. These styles are very diverse and unique. In order to give a good quality rating make sure you know these styles, and when rating a person keep the style they were aiming for in mind.
RATE ME THREADS
Rate me threads are the most common of threads in avatar talk. What exactly is a rate me thread? Well, a rate me thread is a thread that is made by a user so that other's can rate them and give them suggestions on their avatar.
THE DO'S OF A RATE ME THREAD --> Do make a rate me thread if you seriously want to be rated, and have suggestions given to you on how to make your avatar better. --> Do make a rate me thread if your feelings are not going to get hurt easily. [not all users are going to have nice things to say about your av.] --> If you were trying to achieve a specific look do, let people know what that look was so they can base your rating on how well you pulled oft that specific look. --> Do remind people to leave a comment along with the number so you know why you got the rate you did. Also let them know if you are looking for suggestions or not.
THE DON'TS OF A RATE ME THREAD --> Don't make a rate me thread if your going to just make it then leave. If you do this your not getting any help. --> Don't make a rate me thread if your wearing 5 items or less, instead ask for suggestions. If you realy want rates make it clear you want rates on the progress of the av, as well as suggestions. --> Don't make a rate me thread if you are easily hurt. Not all users are going to have nice things to say. --> Don't make a rate me thread, and then start arguing with other users. --> Don't make another rate me thread just because no one commented on your last one.
OTHER THINGS TO REMEMBER --> If your wearing a complete set of items [ie. mink set. punk set. ballerina set... ect.] chances are you won't get high ratings. Originality is key here and using a complete set is seen as not being original. --> Be polite. Don't start yelling or being rude at other members just because they gave you a low rating. Not everyone has the same taste in fashion as you do.
RATING THREADS
What's the difference between a 'rate me' thread and a 'ratings' thread you ask? Well, a 'ratings' thread is normally a thread made by one user or a group of users for you to go to and ask that specific person for a rating.
THINGS TO REMEMBER --> Once again be polite. Don't start yelling or being rude at other members just because they gave you a low rating. Not everyone has the same taste in fashion as you do. [I can't stress this enough] --> Be sure to read through the first post in the ratings threads for detail's on how that person works thier thread. Most of the time you can just post rate me, and you will recieve a rating... [although not all users with ratings threads work this way] Also be sure to pay attention that the person is online and is currently rating people... otherwise you probably won't get a chance to see your rating. --> While you are entitled to your opinion in your rating thread, if you are receiving a lot complaints or your entire thread is a flame war against you, you should rethink your way of rating. --> Try not to make more then one rating thread a day. If you wish to randomly rate people for a bit it is fine, if you want to keep the thread alive turn it into a more permanent rating thread.
THE RATING SCALE
So what's this one to ten scale all about, and what exactly do these numbers mean? Well here you go what the 10 scale is all about! Note that there are many more ways to rate. These are just suggestions and common ways in practice now.
THE 10 SCALE 1/10. Worst score you can get, start all over. [horrible] 2/10. Still horrible, I just felt bad and gave you the 2 for effort. 3/10. Still bad keep on working at it. 4/10. Slightly below average, one or two things makes you look worst then most avatars. You have lots of improvements to get to the top. 5/10. Right in the middle, average. 6/10. Better then most but still needs some work. 7/10. A rather common rating, means your avatar stands out, but it's probably lacking coordination or originality and a still needs alot of work. 8/10. A few things could still use tweaking on your av. 9/10. Almost a 10 but not quite, don't get upset you got so close most people hardly ever give 10's because they don't belive in a perfect av. But either way a 9 is a good score, and means you should probably work on one llittle minor detail to improve it. 10/10. Best score you can recieve. [Excellent]
OTHER THINGS TO REMBER --> When using number ratings to rate someone, before thinking of the "stereotypical" avatar please be well aware that thier are in fact many different styles of avatars. When rating someone make sure you can grasp what styly they are going for, and give them a number based on how well thier av matches that specific style.
--> Please remember that leaving only a number does not help the person. When rating be sure to let the person know why they are getting the number you have given. Leaving them constuctive criticism and suggestions is encouraged.
--> "I got a 3/5, or a 70% what does this mean?" Many people don't use the typical 10 scale rating method and have used thier own creative ways to leave a number rating. Including, but not limited to:
THE 5 SCALE Almost the 10 scale but not quite, its basicly a mini version of the 10 scale, in wich the numbers no mean the following... 1/5 Worst score you can get, start all over. [horrible] 2/5 Still bad, keep on working at it. 3/5 Right in the middle, average. 4/5 A few thinks could still use tweaking on your av. 5/5 Best score you can recieve. [Excellent]
PERCENTS: Typicaly these percents are done out of a total score of 100%. Lets say you were to get rated 80%, this would mean your rating according to the 10 scale is 8/10.
THE 100 SCALE The 100 scale is the 10 scale with extra 0's added on. [Example 70/100 is the same thing as 7/10]

AVATAR CONTESTS
What exactly is a avatar contest? Well an avatar contest is a contest based on what your avatar look's like in which you compete against other members for a prize.
Different Types Of Contests 1.) General Contest: People pick thier favorite avatar and compete against other users 2.) Themed Contest: Themed contests are exactly as they sound "themed". [Example, Angelic, Demonic, 70's, Summer, Winter] Ect. Each contest dresses to the appropritate theme. 3.) Color Contest: Color contest are based on a specific color and how well users can use that color. Each contestant makes thier best outfit with use of the specific color. 4.) Item Contest: Item contest are normaly based around the use of one specific item, used by all contestants. 5.) Elimination Contest: Elimination contest, are longer contest. These contest will normally consist of a group of people competing in different rounds of the avatar contest. [Example: The contest starts out with 10 contestants, the contestants are then given a item, color, or theme to follow. These contestants normaly have a day or to, to PM or post thier avatar for the contest creator. After all have been turned in each will be judged the person with the lowest score will then be eliminated and another round with the remaining 9 contestants will begin, this will continue until it comes down to 1 contestant remaining.] 6.) SIM Contest: SIM contest, are contest where the contestants do not use thier personal avatar but rather a simulated one from the avatar creator, or the avatar simulator. Another way SIM contests are done, are by one user looking for a new av for themselves. Normally, these contest are free of charge. The person looking for the new av will choose thier favorite, and reward the winner.
A few points to keep in mind --> Make the contest thread look nice. Dont just post the word contest, followed by the contestants... give it some detail: how it will be judged, the rules, the theme... ect. --> If you are going to be making any profit at all make sure it is reasonable try to keep only 10% Lets say each person pays 100g, and thier is 10 contestants you would keep 100... No one likes to join a contest where the owner of it is making more profit then the people who win. An exceptable excuse for more of a profit would be for a quest [maybe keep 20-30%] Be sure to let others know what the contest profit is going to, and why. --> Keep the contest thread as active as you can until it is finished.
DRESS ME THREADS
What is a 'dress me' thread and what makes it different from a 'ratings' thread, your wondering? Well a 'dress me' thread is a thread made by a user to dress them up [think paper doll].
What the user does is post a picture of their inventory. What you do as a visitor to thier thread is look at their inventory, and post a reply with a list of items found in their inventory for you to dress them up in.
--> DO NOT just list all the items in your inventory when making a dress thread, post a screen cap or link every image individualy. Making a list isn't going to get you very far as many people do not know the name and apperance of every gaian item by heart.
SIM Threads
What are gaia avatar simulator[SIM] [also known as tek teks] threads you ask? The gaia avatar simulator is a way for you to make and preview full outfits.
THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF SIM THREADS --> "I'll make you a SIM" Where one person offers to make an avatar for others. --> "Make me a SIM" Where a user ask for others to make him/her outfits. --> "Rate My SIM" Thread in which users ask to rate simulated avatars they have created. --> 'SIM Contest" contest in which SIM's are used rather then your own avatar.
THE DO'S OF SIM THREADS ---> Do ask for SIMS if your having a creative block, want some ideas, or are not to good at making avatars yourself. ---> Do be polite and thank people for taking the time to make you an outfit. ---> If your trying to achieve a certain look, do let people know what that look is so they know what to aim for when making up an av. ---> Do let people know what price range and what current items you have to work with, if your looking for a new look and/or ways to expand it. ---> Do be sure to follow started "rate me" thread practices when asking for a SIM to be rated. ---> Do Make obtainable Gav Sims to be rated, don't make something outrageous that you are never going to achieve. If you want to make one thats simply outrageous, please ask for a legit rate on either your current av, or a more attainable sim. ---> Do Ask for specifics when making SIM's for others, or asking for them. [Example, Hair Color, Hair Style, Skin Tone, Mouth, Eye Color, Eye Type, Color Scheme, Ect..]
THE DON'TS OF SIM THREADS --> Don't be rude to people who make an outfit for you and do not flame them because you didn't like the specific av they made for you. Different people, different tastes. --> Don't make another SIM thread just because no one commented on your last one.
THINGS TO REMEMBER --> Once again be polite. Don't start yelling or being rude at other members just because they gave you a low rating. Not everyone has the same taste in fashion as you do. [I can't stress this enough] -->DO NOT post illegal G.A.C links, you can be reported for posting them and you can get into some serious trouble. The G.A.C is very much down, DO NOT use the amypepper.com web link to the G.A.C it is an ILLEGAL version, and you WILL get into trouble.
