I've been skating for about a week and I have doing ollies down pretty well, I can ollie a few inches and I'm ready to try something else. What trick should I go for next? I've tried doing a shove-it but I'm not good enough yet, should I keep practicing the basics?

Don't worry about anything but ollies until you can get they stick to your feet like 6 inches in the air biggrin . their fun. I've got 20 inch ollies cool .

i would say if you want something new, shuv-its or kickflips, but you should probably keep working on ollies, a few inches isnt ganna get you anywhere past maybe a kickflip. i worked on ollies at least 3 months before i seriously moved on and my ollie max range is about 2-3 ft depending on the circumstances.

just try shuv-its. not pop shuv- its. keep practicing that and your ollie and pop shuv-its will come easily. i learned bs and fs 180s and halfcabs before i learned how to kickflip.

When i started, I tried freestlye tricks, and that helped improve my board control, and it helped me learn a few more tricks later on.
Among freestyle tricks, you should try to learn railstands, they are easiest.
from ts rails(grip tape facing forward), you can learn a railflip, which will help w/ heelflips.
Double railflips (easier than they sound) look really cool, and they can help w/ (pop) shuv its.
If your interested in me going into detail about these tricks, just ask!

As stated before, it would be best to learn flatland tricks, such as railstands, shove its (no pop), etc. Don't try learning any flip tricks until you can ollie higher. I suggest pop shove its before kickflips or heelflips though, they are a lot easier.
