The Complete NEW-WORLD beta
‘Updated’ Legend & Game Terminology for
.hack//PANDEMIC
Chaos Gates
Chaos Gates are direct transport zones in the game where player characters go to travel between different parts of the "NEW-WORLD". Each Gate appears to be made up of several rotating and revolving mirrored-rings filled with translucent blue glass encased in gold-etched marble or stone.
All the keywords used in the game are etched all around on the sides of these rings in ancient runic symbols. Each ring shifts to a particular direction to match accordingly with the correct keywords called into it, before transporting the player & his/her entourage to a specific town or field. Chaos Gates are incredibly fast and can transport multiple parties to various areas simultaneously.
There is atleast 1 Chaos Gate in every root town in the NEW-WORLD Some areas are so vast they must be equipped with 2.
Root Towns
Root Towns are the primary zones for many players and npc’s to commune. There are now two for each server where players gather to chat, buy items, save their games, store items, and set up their Guilds, and establish their @homes (Guild Bases). Each server's town is modeled differently. For example, Port Nerei’s town is an enormous bubble-encased City partially submerged into Digamma’s vast Ocean. while Ouru Vista is partly an old-world style rural urban village on one side of the Steam-wall whereas the rest of Ouru Vista is an elite metropilitan center filled to the brim with technology. Towns are the easiest place in the game to find players for parties or to ask for help, or to simply be explored.

Lost Grounds
These mysterious places of interest are usually just rumored areas, believed to exist within the NEW-WORLD. These places are believed to be majestic and wonderous, ancient areas. Some think they weren’t created by the Developers of The World, and exist as creations of The World itself, and have now been carried over into the NEW-WORLD beta, by an unseen force. More on The Lost Grounds will be examined and explained on a separate page.
Guilds
Not exactly a new feature within the NEW-WORLD beta, Guilds have existed since FRAGMENT the first ever version of The World.
However, new features allow the building of personal structures for Guilds and their Guildmasters to use. These structures known as “@Homes” are personal pocket areas of data that have been customized to fit an entire Guild, for private conferences, gatherings, parties, and other Guild functions.
CC Corporation, also bestows Private Servers to be used as @Homes for much larger Guilds, some of which exceed to as much as 500+ members.
Grunties
In the original game, Grunties were known to be cute piglike creatures that players could raise into specialized Grunties and ride them in the game for quick transportation across fields, they were also available to make trades with as if they were normal players.
In the NEW-WORLD beta, Grunties have transformed immensely from the animals they used to be, to almost becoming their own race themselves. Grunties wear clothing that matches the Guildmaster’s appearance of any Guild in the NEW-WORLD, they walk upright on two hooves and act as a sort of Mascot to the Guild they belong to.
Monsters
The .hack world is filled with a wide variety of fantastic creatures for the players to meet and do battle with. They come in many shapes and sizes, from man sized warriors to enormous dragons. Difficult monsters have more hit points and frequently sport special abilities to make their defeat more challenging for experienced players.
Field Portals
Glowing light blue energy spheres which, when approached, reveal either monsters or chests containing items. A Field Portal is the primary way players find challenges to gain experience. Field Portals can be found in fields and dungeons and to see all of the Field Portals on the field map at once, use a Fairy's Orb.
Also during most battles a Field Portal generates around the battle area surrounding the players and their opponents out in the fields. Other players can then enter the battle by charging into and opening the erected Field Portal.
Fields
When players leave a town to seek adventure and level up their characters, they go looking for it in the Fields of the NEW-WORLD. A Field is an area defined by three keywords and used at a Chaos Gate like imputting the code of a telephone number, determining what kind of place it will be, what level that place will be, the types of monsters it’ll have, and the type of weather affecting the Field. A limitless variety of fields exist including open plains, forest, jungles, snow filled tundra, and volcanic wastelands. Every field contains a dungeon, and it is by exploring fields and dungeons that players advance in the game.
Dungeons
A set of underground rooms or caverns underneath every field. Dungeons contain more difficult monsters than do Fields and many Field Portals are arranged therein for the players to encounter. At the deepest part of every dungeon is a Beast Statue that players much reach to complete the area. Typically a chest containing three special items rewards the player for reaching the end.
Treasure Chests
Treasure Chests are golden boxes that contain a variety of items the players can collect and trade. A single platinum chest filled with three special items lie at the end of every dungeon to reward players. Blue Chests also known as Risky Treasure(s) however, and are equipped with deadly traps, but dangerous chests are usually filled with better items, so to deactivate the Risky Treasure safely use a Fortune Wire which can be found in the item shop.
Items
Items are various objects in the game which players collect for their special abilities or for trade. Examples of items include weapons, armor, scrolls, download books and ofcourse potions. Weapons and armor help players defend themselves against monsters. Potions can be used during the game to provide a one time effect, like healing a player, or raising their elemental defense to particular magical attacks, and also to raise your movement speed temporarily.
