I'm going to state the obvious here and argue it out as soon as someone walks in with a different opinion and a debate.
Gregory Maguire was hinting about Elphaba and g(A)linda all through the book.
Feel free to post other couples you think were implied or just people you think would be cute together.

I totally agree about Elphaba and Glinda, and persopnally, I wish they would have had an actual relationship. Even though the relationahip as friends was a little on the odd side, I think they would have made a good couple. They obviously cared for each other and loved each other in many ways.

I'm not gonna argue about Elphaba and Galinda being together in the book, as it was obviously implied, but it would really wreak the musical's plot. I mean, they both were obviously in love--in their own way--with Fiyero, whereas Glinda hardly knew him in the book. It just bothers me when people write a musical-verse fanfiction with Elphaba and Glinda as a couple. I'm not saying it isn't possible, but it just doesn't work in musical cannon. Not really.

Oh, when I said I actually liked the idea of them being together, I meant ONLY in the book. I agree with you, in the musical it would have been absolutely horrible.
I like to keep the two separate....because, although I adore the musical, half the things stated in it never would have worked when trying to keep the same timeline and events of the original Wizard of Oz.
Ever.
There are a few things in the book that wouldn't make sense either....but I won't go there.
And I'll shut up now.
Since this is about pairings...and not...
oh nevermind.

I'll ramble just a bit before getting back on topic...

I think staying with the Wizard of Oz wasn't much of an issue in Wicked. I mean, everyone knows the story. It's not like we actually even see freaking Dorothy. (Though origionally it was going to open up with the Scarecrow, Tinman, Lion, and Dorothy getting some kind of medal; of course, this was before it was decided that those four wouldn't really be there at all. Boq being the Tinman and Fiyero being the Scarecrow came in later, according to the Grimmerie.)

I said I'd get back on topic, so now I am. Nessa and Boq make a rather sad couple, no? I mean, it's got the messy she-loves-him-he-doesn't-love-her-she-keeps-him-under-lock-and-key-he pines for another thing.
