that's how our news is.
the last week in April i heard CBS morning news say "9 US casualties today, making it the bloodiest day in recent months in Iraq".
not bloody for Americans, just "bloodiest day"...
then in the very next breath the announcer went on to tell how over 50 Shiites had been slaughtered at a mosque there!
but somehow that doesn't count?

I doubt that is just an American trait, though. Bet you all countries do that.

true.
i recall a couple years ago there was a big furor in England coz some brit tourists got carjacked and killed in Miami.
it's new over there of course; if you live in south FLorida (or anywhere in Florida these days), carjackings and murder hardly make the front page anymore.
