Gilmore Girls gone
Fast-talking drama Gilmore Girls has been given the chop after seven years on the air, US network The CW and Warner Bros. Television have officially announced.
"Announcing the final season of Gilmore Girls is truly a sad moment," read a joint statement. "This series helped define a network and created a fantastic, storybook world featuring some of television's most memorable, lovable characters."
The statement thanked the cast and crew of the series "for giving us this delightful gem for the past seven years", as well as thanking critics and fans for their support.
The cancellation is not a surprise for dedicated fans. Series creator Amy Sherman-Palladino and her husband Daniel Palladino quit the show at the end of season six, while stars Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel were not contracted beyond the end of the 2006-07 television season.
Gilmore Girls currently airs side-by-side with Veronica Mars, making it likely that that critically acclaimed series will also be cancelled.
The final episode of Gilmore Girls airs in the US on May 15.
