well the focus band was in R/S/E and that helps prevent fainting sometimes, dont know about the other things though sweatdrop

It works about 10% of the time according to sources...though I think it might be more around 25%...it leaves your pokemon at 1hp when it should have fainted. It doesn't really have any other effect that I know of.
EDIT: And in case you're going to ask, this can happen more than once...I learned this at the battle frontier. His Swampert stayed alive because of his focus band for 3 more turns before he fainted.
