Ok, there is a new favorite quote for athiests. It was said by Nithcezie (yes, I just butcered that name) Who said "God is dead." So, the christians 'reataliated' by saying "Nithcezie is dead." Both of these quotes ate ididotic for 2 reasons.
1. The quote that God is dead is metophorical, saying that the idea of a diety exists no more. So saying that Nithcezie is dead is one of the worst retaliations I have read.
2. The idea of God is not dead. If 70% of ameraicans claim to be christans, than God is alive and kicking. So stop saying that 'N' is dead, and stop saying that God is dead. Both are fallible quotes.

I miss Nietzsche. He seems like the kind of person you could get to know well.

Agreed. Neither quote proves anything, and the christians reply was out of anger, which is never healthy. The title freaked me out big time. Don't do that!! (Kidding. but the title was still a little scary)

lol the less flashy of a title for a thread, the less likely people will go into it. the more dramatic it is the more attention it gets.

Nietzsche was a famous, anti-organized religion philosopher who I would totally have a crush on. You know, if he hadn't been decomposing for the last century. o_o;

I think organized religion is ok, just not how it is organized now. A little reorginization is in order. Yeah, if you had a crush on a decomposing body, I may have never talked to you again. seeing as I do it SO MUCH now.

Whoah, whoah, whoah hold on a sec. Nietzsche's quote was not the idea that the concept of God was dead, it meant that God did not exist thus being spiritually dead. Totally non-existent. So the retaliation was simply stating that in God's eyes Nietzsche was dead. Not only physically but spiritually as well. Which as Christians we know that this statement is true, since having not accepted Jesus as his Saviour, he is spiritually dead, burning in hell. Thus in the comment they are both at an impasse thinking that each other do not exist spiritually. (And as Christians we know who was correct in that philosophical debate. wink Our God the ultimate philosopher.) And while I agree it isn't exactly a conclusion that is particularly useful in Christian apologetics, as I don't believe one can come to the Lord based on these reasonings, it certainly can cause some believer out there to chuckle. And I believe that it may impact several of those unbelievers in this field, as they tend to think that we Christians cannot reason and philosophize on the same levels they can. Oh, and by the way if anyone tries to say something along the lines of the above sentence, recommend to them on of C.S. Lewis's books. wink "Nietzsche said 'God is dead.' God says 'Nietzsche is dead.'"

"God is dead" is not meant literally, as in "God is now physically dead"; rather, it is Nietzsche's way of saying that the idea of God is no longer capable of acting as a source of any moral code or teleology. Nietzsche recognizes the crisis which the death of God represents for existing moral considerations, because "When one gives up the Christian faith, one pulls the right to Christian morality out from under one's feet. This morality is by no means self-evident.... By breaking one main concept out of Christianity, the faith in God, one breaks the whole: nothing necessary remains in one's hands."[1] This is why in "The Madman", the madman addresses not believers, but atheists — the problem is to retain any system of values in the absence of a divine order. - Wikipedia, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/God_is_deadCould everyone please shut up about how Nietzsche hates God?

Erm excuse me, I did not say that Nietzsche said God was physically dead, I said that based on his quote (unless he would quote arbitrarily to his beliefs) he believed that God was spiritually dead, as believe it or not there is a huge difference between the two. And I never said he hated God. And you are absolutely right he did recognize that Christian morals without Christianity are entirely useless (a necessary point.) However even if someone believes that God exists, does not mean he is a Christian, as that requires a commitment to Christ. But based upon Nietzsche's mono-theistic viewpoint his life suggested otherwise to that statement.
