Last night, I read and saw some terrible, terrible things about what happens to animals (such as chickens and cows) that are raised and slaughtered for their products/flesh (however, being vegan would be too hard right now). It actually made me cry, and I cannot eat meat anymore. I just can't do it. I already told my parents that I'm going to be vegetarian, and they said that if I'm really serious about it, they'll help out however they can.
Any... comments? Advice? Suggestions?
It's going to be tricky getting enough nutrition without meat, because we won't really be able to afford to buy a whole lot of meat alternatives.

I disagree with vegetarianism only when people think that it's morally wrong to eat meat (I could get into a whole conversation about this. . .). But I'm also against cruel treatment of animals while they're alive, because of the obvious reasons and that the improper feed can cause diseases like Mad Cow. But anything made with nuts or beans like tofu and peanut butter are high in protein, and you can take iron supplements if you find that you aren't getting enough of that. But I agree, it'll be hard to eat meals solely made out of vegetables because of how light they are. . .If you stay on a strictly-vegetable diet for a long time, chances are your body will start to reject meat. sweatdrop

Woo! Come eat tofu with me! n.n;;
Ha. I went vegan relatively impulsively, but it helped seeing a video of how pigs are killed in slaughterhouses.

I think it's morally wrong to horrifically abuse animals. :/ Even if my body does start to reject meat, I plan on staying a vegetarian. >.o

I don't buy into immorally wrong or cruelty to animals gig at all but I do respect those who do, thank goodness we have the option to do as we choose heart

What do you mean you don't "buy into" the cruelty to animals? It's happening, to a lot of animals. Most people choose not to think about it (or sometimes not to care), but it does happen.

Most people choose not to think about it (or sometimes not to care), but it does happen. Well When I say I don't buy into it I just mean Its not really something that strikes me in daily life as all that important, as we are all well aware their are Human Beings being horrifically abused, and If I wanted to change something about myself, I would probably try to find a way to change my lifestyle that might help them first or even just one person in that situation. I just don't see how by my choosing not to eat meat would impact how an animal is raised or butchered Now, I wouldn't want to see Domestic animals or endangered species being treated in a cruel way, and its not that I don't understand whats happening to them or that I'm just a b***h, For me personally though, its not a matter of "aww poor chicken/cow/pig, how can I eat them" For me its a matter of thank god I have something to eat at all and Thank god I don't have to go out and hunt, kill, and butcher it myself every night or go hungry, With the flip of a coin I could have been born into a famine riddled country where they have nothing and would kill for the opportunity to get their hands on the meat that I turned my nose up too

Of course I don't mean to offend you in anyway by saying that I PERSONALLY don't feel the same way you do about cruelty to livestock, I whole-heartedly believe that anyones personal convictions about an issue are a wonderful thing whether or not they are the same views as my own, alot of problems need to be noted and cared about by people and I really respect your concerns

I do understand where you're coming from, it's just that my beliefs differ. >.o Also, becoming vegetarian can help save some animals, because fewer would need to be slaughtered. I read that by not eating meat, one person can save about 100 animals each year. So, if enough people are vegetarians, less animals will need to be killed. It's basically just supply and demand.

What I was saying earlier (idk whether I made my point well. . .) is that I disagree with people who say it's 'wrong' for humans to eat meat, because I think it's about as wrong for us to eat it as it is for another animal to. But I'm against cruelty before domestic animals are slaughtered.

Woho, veggie power!! heart You won't even miss meat, I swear. Just remember to check stuff for gelatine before you eat them - it even comes in some types of butter. And, if you're really serious about not eating animals, all substances named E and a number can be of animalistic origin.
People do make fun of vegetarians, though. Lesbian ones in particular. But be strong, hun!
