“I'll see your heart ...
So, I checked the official link thread thingy and there doesn't seem to be an official Bell X1 thread, so I hope you don't mind me yelling from the rooftops of the Teh Music Guild about them?
Bell X1 are Brian Crosby, Dave Geraghty, Paul Noonan and Dominic Phillips, Esq. (yeah, esq.)
Brief history so far:
They were formed in much the usual way, in 1991. Group of lads from school meet up and learn to master their instruments. They were then Brian, Paul, Dom and Damien Rice, who you may or may not have heard of. He's a solo singer of medium fame-osity over here. They were first named Juniper, the berry you make gin from. A far cry from the finished sound and professionalism that they exude.
They played parties, weddings and the usual bar-mitzvahs. Then they met Dave, he weened them off the Neil Diamond and Roxette covers. They released an EP by the name of 'Manna' in Ireland. Damien saw cause to leave the band, but not on unfavourable terms. They still talk, laugh, etc. and he collaborated with them on their EP 'Music in Mouth' and their recent release for Oxfam, 'The Cake Sale'.
Fast forward to 2003, July 21st. Amidst the summer fever 'Music in Mouth' was finally released having been finished the previous December in a friend's borrowed apartment in Kilkenny. It went double-platinum to tumultuous applause. All their all-sorts flogging finally paid off.
The boys went back into the studio to record 'Flock' in 2004 to finish it in 2005, released on October 14th in Ireland. It went straight to the top of the charts here but, unfortunately for them, they didn't make such an imapct over-seas. They released one last EP for Oxfam called 'The Cake Sale', all the profits of which go to Oxfam and Fairtrade.
In early 2007, Bell X1 fans were shocked to hear that Bell X1's contract with Island Records had been terminated, in an earlier interview with the Irish Times, Paul Noonan was giving signs of foreboding, casting doubt on the label's patience. All signs turned out right as the contract was ended. Much to everyone's surprise, Bell X1 gave statements claiming that the contract had been terminated by them and not by the label themselves. They felt they weren't being treated properly and needed a fresh outlook at things.
Paul had this to say:
"12.02.07 - We'd just like to say
As some of you have heard, we've chosen not to make our next record with Island Records, as we feel we'd be better off taking a different path. Thanks for the dance, and good night.
No weeping, gnashing, or bad buzz
It's all good
Paul"
Trust me, that was not just copied and pasted from the band site.
So, that's Bell X1 in a nutshell, fairly large one, but still a shell of some type.
I'll list the EP's they've released ... but I have to locate track listings for 'Manna' (released with Juniper) as of yet, but hold tight, they will be found. 3nodding
So, Bell X1 anyone? redface
