Jade’s War
Jade found herself locked in the confines of an old mine. Her inner thoughts flashbacked to what had happened the night before… getting knocked out, feeling an arm wrap around her waist carrying her off, a bucket full of water drench her, collapsing on the floor… she couldn’t remember all the specifics, only a brief outline of what had happened.
She picked herself off the floor, admiring the puddle of ice cold water surrounding the place she had sat and fell asleep in. Jade sighed, why had it come to this… she felt down expecting to find the hidden slot in amongst the armor she always wore, shocked, she felt again. No, this wasn’t the feeling of armor, she looked down in shock, no she was adorn with a prisoner’s outfit… they had taken her armor. Shocked, Jade collapsed once more onto the prison floor, this was not a good sign she thought. What if... her armor held many secrets, about the past, present, future, her life, and all the secrets of her village…?
If they found out, her life and village were forfeit. No, she wouldn’t let this, happen. Jade looked around the prison cell, looking for something sharp, solid, durable she could use to escape with, but she found none. Her kidnappers had taken no chances.
She heard loud footsteps in the echoing chambers of the prison, they were getting louder and louder, and they stopped right in front of her cell. They were dragging a miserable looking man with them, who looked as if he had come down with a fever.
The opened the cell door and roughly pushed the man in, he stumbled and fell in front of her. The two men were getting ready to leave when Jade cried, “What are you doing!” They looked at each other and cracked up, “What do you think young lady; we thought the herbs we found in your armor to be quite interesting, so we are locking him with you to see if you’ll be able to help him. Oh course, you can choose to not heal him, but when he dies, the bomb inside him will blow up, killing you in the deal, so… what happens is up to you. He will die in about…” checking his watch the leader looked back up and said, “3 days, so you have 3 days to decide and heal this man, if you succeed, know, you will be forced to fight in the army with us against the Blasterians, the choice is all yours little girl, ahh I nearly forgot,” reaching into his pocket he pulled out a bunch of herbs, “all yours.” Then the two men walked away throwing fits of laughter.
Jade swore under her breath, and knelt down beside the sick man who was already fast asleep. She picked up the herbs and started working on the poor man, quickly working her way through a jumble of bruises, cuts, then starting on the more fatal internal wounds. Jade laid her hand over his heart, and let her energy flow through the man, healing as it traveled through. Although the process took two days to complete, she managed, and fell asleep in exhaustion.
The man Jade was healing woke up as the sun was just starting to shine, he lifted himself off the bed, expecting to find his body broken and bruised, his muscles tired out and aching… but, he found himself to be near perfect, his body was fixed and he felt as good as new. He stared in open amazement at the girl lying sleeping on the floor, in awe. He hadn’t expected her to be able to fix him up… he felt overly grateful and full of thanksgiving.
So, he carried her small petite body, and lowered her down onto the straw bed, watching the rise and fall of her chest and the silver hair that was spread out across the pillow, she looked at peace. In his mind, he compared the anxious face she wore whilst dealing with the guards, to the one he was looking at right now. It seemed as though all her worries had fallen away into a black hole… she looked so serene…
Jade sifted uncomfortably in her sleep, she could feel a shadow cast over her, and eyes watching her back. But she was too tired to say anything, and soon fell into a deep sleep.

The next morning, Jade woke up to the light filtering through the gaps in the prison window. She arched her back and stretched, her muscles were tingling all over. Turning around, she found the man she had healed lying on the floor, he was sifting in his sleep and muttering, but she couldn’t figure out what he was saying, as Jade was about to go and wake him, she heard heavy thuds echoing down the chamber along with a hoard of consistent chattering. Then she heard the screech of the door as it swung open and a dozen men surrounded her.
“What do you want?” Jade said in a tired voice. “So…” said the man from last time, “you healed the pitiful man, which means you have to help you in our little fight.” “Who is it you’re going against?” The man yawned then pointed his finger towards the tiny window, “Oh, just the little tribe down the east over there, we just wanted to tell you that boss wants you ready at 5pm tonight to discuss plans, oh by the way, we’re taking this man if you don’t mind,” they picked the poor guy off the floor and towed him across the cold chamber floor after slamming the door behind them.
Jade sighed, everything always ended up happening to her… She pushed herself into the corner of her room and, sulked.

Jade racked her head, she could not figure out why they had given the job of commander to her, well she thought, she had always been excited about directing her own army… but doing it for real? That was another matter, it was such a huge responsibility and the stress that came from it was… just too great to be described in words alone.

Jade walked over the ruins of the war, she breathed in deeply trying not to cry. She had made sure they lost, as revenge, but she had not thought about all the innocent lives that came into the equation. She saw many dead men, women and even children that day… she groaned, they had all died on her conscience…
The next day soldiers found a dead body of a woman in the battlefield, she was taken back and declared to have been named, ‘Jade.’
