That's an important one. I'm still working on doing that. sweatdrop My teacher tells me that consistent, fast air stream is the difference between the intermediate and professional flautist.
So, I'm sure you can guess which one I am. *coughs* Anyways, I'm getting better at it since I changed my embouchure.
Other tips (which I'm continually posting in the guild....I'm not going to stop, so get used to it. xD ) :
Support (push the diaphragm upward) Relaxed jaw/ dropped jaw (can be the difference between a great sound or a cracked note)

Breath every four measures Start new music slow, then go faster Check your fingering in front of a mirror Dont get too over confident Make sure you know your flats and sharps Have fun!

Gah..I'm pretty good at breathing - but when I have to perform solo...my air...just....SUCKS. I can't play strong notes, but I can do my articulation and whatnot just fine....GAHHHHHHHH!!! Happened just today when I played Harry Potter...I did the solo at the beginning....and....my highs were all....disgusting! I felt like such a n00b who couldn't play. crying HOW do I get over this "stage fright"? Don't say, practice, because I practice everyday and I also have a concert coming up!!!!!!!!!!!!! So I need some other advice before I ruin this upcoming concert...

Actually, my teacher says to be very confident while playing. She says that even though I'm not an aggressive person personality wise, I should be very aggressive while I play. So, obviously, don't be conceited and disrespectful to people, but you need to play like you are the best flautist there is.

You could ask your teacher to drop out like 2-4 measures before your solo, then you could get a big breath of air.

Of course. Every one should show other people respect, no matter how long they have been playing, but all of our aggressiveness should go into our playing. If you knew my personality, you would know that I'd be the last one to show disrespect to someone who knows more than I do. But that's why my teacher tells me to be confident on the flute......it's like an alter ego. Ya know?
