Since it was bound to come sometime, why not make it first? Harry Potter, people. Books, not movies. No bashing please.

I'm going to put my cards down now about the last book, and if I'm wrong, eh, I'll eat my words, but as is:
Rowling is a predictable writer, and I don't mean (oh, Harry's going to face some incarnation of Voldemort again, how predictable), but her plots twists are predictable: so my thinking is Snape's not evil, there's going to be some explanation, some twist, and he'll end up doing something good.

^ I disagree. But what do I know? Before HBP, people asked me questions like, "who's the HBP?" "I dunno... but it's not snape. He's in slytherin, he's a pureblood" stare "who'd you thinks gonna die?" "I dunno. not Dumbledore. He's gonna die halfway through book seven" I can never get anything right

He's in slytherin, he's a pureblood" stare "who'd you thinks gonna die?" "I dunno. not Dumbledore. He's gonna die halfway through book seven" I can never get anything right Well there's always the mass of fans who say Dumbledore's not actually dead. razz I'm not sure what I think, but when you examine their arguments, they do have a certain amount of weight - chiefly, every other instance of the killing curse being used, the victim has just dropped dead on the spot - Dumbledore was blasted backwards over the balcony.
As far as I can see, there are two conclusions: either he's not dead, or Rowling's writing suddenly became very sloppy, and she forgot half of the rules she herself imposed on her world.
I know Rowling has said herself he is, and they just need to let go; but that means that she forgot her own rules, and none of her editors picked up the mistakes.
I suppose there's the third possibility that she simply disregarded her own rules for the sake of a cheesy dramatic affect - a dramatic affect which could have been achieved even if Dumbledore just dropped dead on the spot, like he was supposed to - if she knew how to write it.

^ I disagree with the 'not dead' theory, as I argue with one of my mom's customers often. She could have sasily forgotten her rules, or maybe there was some other reason why the curse was more dramatic... maybe it broke through a charm or something, and the charm being broken created a mass of energy or something that pushed him back... do you get what I'm saying?

Authors tend to me very meticulous about the rules that govern their created worlds - for instance, when writing his Dark Tower Series, Stephen King got someone to compile every reference to certain things he'd written, or rules he'd made; so he didn't make any mistakes in the final version. Rowling *will* have the rules of her world written down, she will have a list of the effects of the different spells - not jsut what they do, but how they do it.
To say 'she forgot' is not just implying she forgot these rules she'd written down, but also implies that it was overlooked by every single proof-reader and editor of her work - one person overlooking something is plausible, 10 people overlooking it, not quite so.

Hmmmm. I think I'd have to be mad if Dumbledore is still alive. I came up with this sweet idea that Fawks is totally Dumbles Horcrux! xD Wouldn't that be lame and yet awesome? I also think Remus is going to die...I don't know why...but I think he's the last of Harry's real mentors. Then he would be alone to fight Crazy V.
