User ImageThe crabapple trees are blooming with a lovely delicate scent. This tiny twig seemed to want to start its own branch against the mossy trunk. In the flower bed below it, the stalks of Miradora's "Stargazer" lilies are just beginning to push above the soil. Miradora says that when they bloom, I can bring them here for Maid Lillian.

User Image biggrin Ah, that is lovely. Spring's promise was cut short here in the southlands; all was in full bloom when the harsh freeze of Easter struck. Yet it was even worse in the mountains, where it lasted long enough it almost killed many plants, for they'd just come into buds there. It put the trees back into hibernation, and when we arrived this month to visit, they'd just reawakened...and begun depositing vast quanitites of pollen. Eirwyn's sinuses were not amused. Here, the pollen has been done for a while. The vivid flowers on the azaleas were badly burnt by the cold, but they are leafed out now. I am sure they will recover.
I think Oscar has some fine pictures from a beautiful garden Lillian's mother knew well when she attended university. I will ask him.

Yes, Furamir; I have some marvelous images from a place called Sarah P. Duke Gardens in Durham, NC. There is a wondrous Pergola there at the top of a set of Terraces, all covered with wisteria vines. When the conditions are right in the spring, it is heavily-laden with the richly-scented clusters of blooms! This year it did not do well, but last year it was truly spectacular! I would love to put wisteria here in my own gardens, but I understand it is highly invasive and I cannot spend all my time pruning and digging up wisteria to prevent all my gardens being overrun! But I have a picture or two I can share with you.
