whee I've wanted to compile all of the abbreviations I know for ages.. I hope this is useful to some of you.
AN or A/N - author's note
AU - alternate universe
BDSM - bondage/domination/sadism/masochism
Beta - one who reads over another person's fic for errors/ constructive criticism before it's released
Canon - the world/characters according to the original author (J.K. Rowling, in our case)
CD - character death
Chan - relationship involving an adult and a minor (see Shotakon)
CO - crossover
Fanon - fan-created canon. Basically, the world according to a group of fans.
F/F - female homosexual relationship
Gen - general fic in which there is no romance
H/C - hurt/comfort; in which the author has a character be hurt so that a different character can comfort them
Het- Heterosexual relationships
Mary Sue - the fic author, badly disguised as a character. Also can be Gary Sue for male characters.
M/M - male slash
MWPP - Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, Prongs; usually referring to the Marauder's era.
OOC - out of character
OC - original character; the author makes up their own character for the story.
POV - point of view
PWP - porn without point/ plot what plot
RR or R&R - read and review
Shotakon - Romance between a minor and an adult (see Chan)
Slash - non-canon homosexual relationships
Snarry - the only HP coupling abbreviation I can think of at the moment, Sanpe/Harry fanfiction
WIP - work in progress

You know, this would have helped me..... had I not asked around. sweatdrop Fanfiction lover for 3 years running....
kinda causes you to figure out the abbreviations. But it was nice to put this up... definitely. 3nodding
