Darkness fell around him as he slumped down to a crouching position, his two great wings pulling around him like some gargoyle released from the confines of stone. Around him these brothers of stoneperched, covered in bird s**t and forgotten by all those who didn't try to end their lives. Torment had not come here to end his life, but to ponderthe possibility of a new one.
By no means had he impregnated his wife, to his knowledge anyhow, for she had made no mention either way and did not seem to be acting any differently. His eyes rested on the future, the possibilities. He didn't know if he was ready to have a child, but it had been thrust upon him in another form by an old friend. He offered his aid, and now a sixteen year old male had been entrusted to his care, if not somewhat forcibly by himself, without intending to. He hadn't meant to insult his friend, but everything has a grain of truth, even the harshest of words, if not exclusively.
The young man was more like his real father than he could know, and the hate that had formed in the lad for his father made him more like Torment than he could imagine. Perhaps that was why Torment had taken an interest in the boy, perhaps Torment had finally gone insane. Whichever was the case, it wasn't exactly implying the best. Nik, son of Vincent Colbini. Torment didn't even know his last name. He could only assume he didn't have the same as Vince, never even having met him until the tenth year of his life.
Torment has ill prepared to deal with a young man, much less act as a father figure, however temporarily. How in the hell was he going to care for the teen, regardless of the fact he seemed to be able to take care of himself. He needed to get to Nik, show him that the hatred he holds for his father will get him nowhere. Torment hated his father for centuries, and all it caused him was grief and pain. The reasons behind the hate may not be the same, but it mattered little, the type of hate was exactly the same.
He needed to talk to Kalie.
