(I'm gonna take this oppurtunity to establish three guild rules: One-polls can be related to the topic at hand, but I prefer to make them random. Two-if you need a quick and dirty explanation-Wiki it. And no rejecting Wiki on principle. Three-Cthulhu PWNs.)
One of the things that's been bugging me is the high number of people who seem to think that evolution shouldn't be taught in school.
Now, while they have many "good" reasons for this, I see one glaring weakness in all of thier arguments-it's science, and is taught in *gasp* science class.
Now, I can understand people getting offeneded if their teacher is saying "OMG Evolution is right Creationism is wrong!!!1!!", but if they're only being taught evolution as a theory on how life on earth came to be what it is now, then I fail to see what the problem is. Or should I say "My religion teaches me that atoms don't exist, and I wish to leave the room whenever they're brought up."? It's really kinda dumb. (Furthermore, if it's being taught, it's probably on the test. If you want to leave during something that you're gonna be tested on...you're an idiot.)
So, my question is: Should evolution be taught in school?
I, personally, think it should. It's science, and it should be taught is science class. If you want to learn about creationism, take a theology class. Creationism is a religious myth/belief, not science.
EDIT: Even though I fixed it, I'd like to clarify something. I realize that evolution isn't how the world started, nor is it the way life came to be. It's how life became what it is now. Sorry for my screw up.

I just have to point his out, because is a biiiig pet peeve of mine:
Quote: if they're only being taught evolution as a theory on how earth came to be
Evolution isn't the theory of how Earth came to be. That's the big bang theory. Evolution is something else entirely.
I think that Evolution should 100% be taught in class.
I've heard some argue that both should be taught. And my first thought it ZOMG!!!11! Separation of church and state. My second thought is, I really don't care. People should be intelligent enough to choose which they believe.

Sorry. I was kinda preoccupied (and pissed off) when I typed that, and I mixed up what I was trying to say with what the people who piss me off say. I'll go back and fix it.

Evolution? Taught in science class? Of course.
Creationism, taught alongside evolution? ******** no. Not unless they teach every other creaion theory of every religion, and then they need to damn well teach it in a Religious Studies class. Keep your God out of my science classroom.

Evolution? Hell yes. (I still need to get my copy of The Origin of Species back from my best friend's place.)
Creationism? Only if at least one person like me, only less utterly psychotic, gets to sit in the classroom and refute every single statement to make it logical.
And Intelligent Design should be taught as a segment in a class on religious satire.
And yes. Yes, I am.

Exactly my thoughts. Creationism has nothing to do with science. I do think more schools should offer a Religious Studies class though (my high school did, but I never had a chance to take it, oh, and it was taught by an Islamic man). I must say though, I really hate it when people say something along the lines of, "Evolution is just a theory, just like Creationism!!!!". This just kinda shows that these people have never payed attention in science class, so they most likely also don't understand Evolution. That saying kinda goes with the, "We didn't come from monkeys! If we did, why are there still monkeys!!!!". The least these people could do is try to understand the thing they're arguing against. I understand Creationism, why can't they try to understand Evolution?

One thing that annoys me is that evolution is extremely well-documented and logical, and yet still people deny it and act like everything that is now was here, and always will be here.
Horses have gone through several very distinct evolutionary phases, as have humans. If it happens in animals and can be documented, then why can't it happen in humans? What are we but another form of animal?

I disagree with the idea that creationism or intelligent design should be taught alongside evolution. Evolution is a scientific theory and should be taught in science classes. Creationism is a theological theory and should be taught in religion classes. Intelligent Design, though it often attempts to disguise itself as science, is a philosophical theory, and should thus be taught in philosophy classes.

Saltski Circe One thing that annoys me is that evolution is extremely well-documented and logical, and yet still people deny it and act like everything that is now was here, and always will be here. Every time I run into that, I like to point out the dodo. And the passenger pigeon. And any other number of species which has been documented to exist, but no longer does. Saltski Circe Horses have gone through several very distinct evolutionary phases, as have humans. If it happens in animals and can be documented, then why can't it happen in humans? What are we but another form of animal? Well, of course, but then you have the hardcore Creationists going "NO GOD MADE US ALL WE'RE BETTER THAN ANIMALS" on repeat. How do you argue our supposed higher sentience and intelligence?

Cougar Draven higher sentience and intelligence? What the ********? you mean science?? somehow?? Ok now for a serious note... B-sharp... Anyhow, I do believe that evolution should be taught in classes but just not shoved down the kids throat as the only option... We need to be able to let the future generations make their own decisions as to what they do or do not wana believe... I myself believe in Natural Selection by God (there is a big fancy name for my kind but I can't think of it)... So no don't stop teaching it but while you're at it teach the other ways too so that the kids know of their choices....

Cougar Draven And Intelligent Design should be taught as a segment in a class on religious satire. I dunno... I think they'll want to teach Stupid Design as well. You know, the belief that everything was created by a joint resolution of the U.S. Congress. Oh, the fun I would have debating that.
