The black metal examples are not truly black metal. The bands heavily influenced the genre yet are not true to the genre.
Venom was originally speed and thrash
Celtic Frost and Hellhammer where the same band basically and where extreme metal, but not truly black.
Mercyful Fate was basic heavy metal with darker lyrics.
Better examples would be: Bathory, Darkthrone, Mayhem, and Gorgoroth.
Folk Metal should also be the mix.
Folk Metal being metal that has heavy folk and cultural influence that is incorporated into the musical composition and lyrics.
Good examples of that include Skyclad, Korpiklaani, Finntroll, and Ensiferum

Celtic Frost actually started as one of the pioneers for Death Metal, not Black Metal (Note the fact that my profile is named after one of their songs) although some people would say that the bands newer sound ((Which sucks by the way)) has more of a black metal sound, but as I said they started off as one of the first Death Metal bands.
