Zirgonth looked at his fellow expeditionist as they entered this new found planet’s atmosphere. Their ship shook like it would break at any second. As Zirgonth felt the ship slow down he remembered what he had learned about this planet at his home world. “This planet doesn’t seem to have any signs of life but it is in early formation” Zirgonth remembered “we think this will be a planet suitable for sustaining the life of our civilization. It will also be a good place to start the build up of new industries.”
A huge boom rocked Zirgonth as the ship settled to the ground. Zirgonth himself had not seen pictures of this planet in training and this was his first time in interstellar travel. He had no fear of it they had been traveling around the universe for century’s he thought to himself. Makzar, his partner, had been on multiple interstellar expeditions and was willing to share some of his experience with Zirgonth, sensing his feelings, through the process of “intertalking”. Zirgonth looked again at Makzar to see him pushing the sequence of buttons on the control panel of the ship to open the bay doors which would then lead them to exploring this new planet. Zirgonth had no clue what to expect from this world as he put on his protective suit for the unknown atmospheric pressure of the planet. Zirgonth remembered again what his teacher had told him “from what we have collected in our data this planet is a vast wasteland of dirt, surrounded by plains of liquid that might be able to support life. Remember most of all the importance of the exploration of this planet to our civilization. You cannot return until you have gathered sufficient information about whether the planet can support life.”
Finally the doors opened to the outside world, leaving both Zirgonth and Makzar in awe. Neither had expected in training to see what they saw in this new world. It was the most amazing site either of the two had seen. So spectacular was the site that both seemed to stand in wait forever before Makzar broke the silence using the “intertalking” to tell Zirgonth to got and get the hover ship ready. As he took his first step unto this new world his step sent huge billows of dust and dirt into the sky. Apparently this planet had not seen the likes of any type of wind. Zirgonth could not take his eyes off the scene of this land it was like he could tell that this is the planet that would kill him.
As Zirgonth reached the Hovership and got it ready he looked back to ship they came to this planet on he saw a picture that would be burned onto his mind forever. Hideous plains of Dust and Rock witch created a lumpy ground. These plains were surrounded be huge rocks that jutted from the ground that shot up smoke and red liquid which ran down the mountain like blood running down the teeth of a giant beast. These columns of smoke went up to a sky that was black with clouds that shot bursts of flashing light to the ground which ended in gigantically loud booms and crashes. Zirgonth could take no more of the sound he had to turn off the sound to his suit. From then on Zirgonth knew that he would never like this planet and want to leave it as soon as he could.
Zirgonth turned to work on the hovership. The hovership was a delicate ship which glided on a propulsion system that would never stop, unless otherwise told to do so. The ship would be able to travel at an astonishing rate and could probably cover this world in 3 rotational cycles of the planet. It could last 5,000 rotational periods (r.p) without having to be rebooted. Luckily, he thought, the rotational cycle of this planet is fairly close the speed of ours so it will be easily explorable. Zirgonth called to Makzar using the process of intertalking to tell Makzar that the hovership was ready and to collect the supplies they will need on the trip to come.
As Makzar approached Zirgonth with supplies and they entered the hovership ready for the exploration that would take a very long period. Makzar took the control seat and Zirgonth sat in the back to conduct test on the new planet. Zirgonth thought again of the picture of the outside world when he first saw it and wished he would have never offered to come to this horrible place, Zirgonth longed for the home world.
As the expedition reached about 12 rotational periods, they had found out what the rocks was mainly composed of, and they had also found out that they could breathe on this planet, by accident, too. Zirgonth had become happy with working in the lab on the hovership instead of outside on Htrae, which met “ugly” planet in a native home world tongue. The results had shown that life could defiantly live on Htrae and in approximately 30,000 r.p. there would be another change in the cycle and another chance for life on Htrae. The expedition would definitely still be on Htrae for another 50,000 r.p. so they might have a chance to see life begin. Maybe, thought Zirgonth, it will be in the same fashion that our life was created? This might be an interesting expedition after all, but he remembered how ugly the planet was and how ugly the life would be on such an ugly planet. Maybe we will have to leave soon, he hoped.
At about 138 r.p. Zirgonth had become ever so tired of living on Htrae, and he knew that no one of his home world would ever want to live here, so why wont they let me go home, he wondered. Makzar had left Zirgonth in the lab and gone to explore the vast liquid wasteland, which was the main ingredient for life on Htrae, so he thought that that is were the first signs of life would show up. At one point in time when Zirgonth had to leave the lab there was a break in the clouds to let him see a peek at the orbital of the planet it was almost as ugly as Htrae, except the orbital had no liquid plains which made it even uglier that Htrae. At that moment Zirgonth felt so angry at this planet that he wanted to leave right now but he couldn’t for the sake of the home world.
213r.p. Zirgonth looked to see Makzar returning. When Zirgonth met Makzar he learned the same news he did every time, that there are no signs of life anywhere but it is defiantly getting closer to a time for new life. That answer drove Zirgonth to the point of killing himself but he had to stay, for my home world he kept telling himself, for my home world.
508r.p. Zirgonth feel nothing but the want to go home, but Makzar reminded him of his duty to the home world. Zirgonth could tell Htrae was taking a toll on him. Zirgonth could no longer hear the booms from the sky of the planet and every time he saw the planet he wished he could kill it like it was being itself controlling Zirgonth. Zirgonth’s mind he could take no more, he could not clear his mind of the pain and hatred the planet caused him. Zirgonth noticed the Phaser-disrupter-ray gun on the wall of the lab. No, he thought, I must keep researching for the home world. 5r.p. later Zirgonth cracked he could take no more without thinking he grabbed the Phaser-disrupter-ray and moved after Makzar. Not knowing what was coming Makzar was out sifting through some rocks with his tentacles, he looked up with his 5 eyes to see Zirgonth run at him and fire, which left Makzar a pile of green ooze. Now that I have vaporized him there will be no one left to tell me that I can’t go back to the home world. I shall go and tell the home world that Makzar died in a horrible accident and that it is a horrible uninhabitable planet.
So Zirgonth left the hideous planet and sped off for home. Unknowingly leaving a pool of “primordial ooze” on Htrae.
