i've been noticing more and more that artists in the past ten years are writing more and more concept album's about the fall of the world.its everywhere in all forms of art painting, comics, music, movies.and the hard part is that i cant honestly disagree with what they have to say.i dont know, i may be paranoid but it sorta worries me

I honestly can't see it.

Of course every once in a while I see a virus turns the whole world into flesh eating zombies movie or Nine Inch Nails released another album. But there hasn't been an increase in fall of the world stuff in my opinion.

i think the worst problem with the world lately is they don't know how to appreciate art.
and they're forgotten what passion really is.

I wouldn't say they're writing about the fall of the world so much as they are expressing their distaste of the state of the world in general - it's definitely not a new thing for artists to take a political stance or to be dissatisfied with society, but it does seem to be an ever-increasing trend these days, especially among those who never usually expressed a strong opinion either way in their work.

Considering the current state of things, I'm not too surprised, but I do fear that artists have started using everyone else's agenda as a way to get their own stuff out there. This isn't new, either, but now it's become so commonplace that it's generally accepted.

To elaborate a bit: As much as I love the Smashing Pumpkins, I'm a little worried about their upcoming album, since it seems to be yet another "America is going down the tubes lolz war lolz global warming lolz Bush sux" thing. Although the few songs I have heard are surprisingly good, Corgan's previous albums were mostly about failed relationships and hating Jesus or something. Until he got with Zwan and wrote a bunch of happy songs about Jesus. Anyway, I'm glad he's doing something different (which will probably end up being completely awesome), but it's still weird that he's putting out a whole album dedicated to... well... this.

Global Warming ain't a bad thing to talk about nowadays. I salute him....now if only the music can sound good, then I'm with him.

I'm kind of hoping for a MACHINA III album instead back to the old stuff. Mellon Collie to me was the worst SP album evar!

Yeah, I'm hoping that the album ends up sounding good, too, though most of what I've heard sounds like the stuff on Siamese Dream and the heavier stuff on Mellon Collie (which is probably my favorite next to Adore). I liked some of the songs on Machina, but most of them were pretty blah to me.

I think I totally de-railed this thread. Whoops. sweatdrop I would get back on topic, but I don't have anything else to say about it at this point!

I've only heard Tarantula and it sounds like a guitar-y track off of MACHINA II.

And trust me, look through all 11 pages of this guild and you'll see that 95% of all the threads go WAYYYYYYYY off topic by like the first 5 posts.

every artist is an america smasher, or has some problem

but none of them are actually doing anything but complaining.
I'm gonna do something, or I'm not gonna comlpain.

After hearing Zeitgeist, I've come to the conclusion that Billy Corgan has lost whatever talent he had. It's a very very below avergae record. It's composed with nothing but guitar in mind. Riffs, Riffs, Riffs and some spectacular drumming....but that's it. Normally I'd appreciate that, but for some reason.....it just sounds too bloated.

I probably need to hear it more than once before I start criticizing it, but meh.

I was excited about it, but then I saw that there would be different versions of the album released for different stores (one of the songs gets replaced with one of two (maybe three?) 'bonus' tracks) and, well... rolleyes Oh, Billy.

What do you expect? The only reason Billy brought back the pumpkins was for the money. Now he's going to milk it out of every one of his fans.
