Taken from the site http://www.atpobtvs.com/magic.html .
In time, I will go into the sublinks of these spells and figure out what they all do. Enjoy!

Spells

Clear examples of the use of spells in BtVS:

- Detecting a witch Giles finds a spell involving some of the witch's hair, quicksilver (mercury), aqua fortis (nitric acid), and eye of newt. In the science lab, Willow puts a frog's eye and the chemicals in a beaker that sits above a Bunsen burner. Buffy steals some of Catherine-in-Amy's-body's-hair off of her brush. Willow adds the hair, mixes the ingredients, and pours some of the liquid into a test-tube. Buffy spills it on Catherine/Amy's arm. Since she had cast a spell in the previous 48 hours, her skin turns blue.

- The transpossession, debilitating enemies, and bloodstone vengeance spells (The Witch)
Transpossession spell: Catherine Madison "switched bodies" with her daughter Amy--in other words, used a spell to effect the transmigration of her spirit to her daughter's body and vice versa. Amy does not recall this event, only that she woke up in her mother's bed and in her mother's body.
Debilitating enemies spells: Catherine uses doll surrogates (a voodoo spell?) to debilitate her enemies. For example, when she blinds a doll representing Cordelia, the real Cordelia is blinded. During this ritual, she says, Give me the power. Give me the dark. I call on you, the laughing gods. Let your blackness crawl beneath my skin. Accept thy sacrifice... of Cordelia. Feed on her.
The bloodstone vengeance spell: this spell hits the body hard, eradicating the immune system and causing the enemy's death in a matter of hours. Catherine places this spell on Buffy using her charm bracelet, intending to kill her for her interference.

- Reversing witch spells
Reversing the spells: Giles and Amy use Dr. Gregory's chemistry equipment and Catherine's spell book. The spell involves another potion which includes eye of newt. Giles mixes the ingredients and recites the spell: The center is dark. Centrum est obscurus. The darkness breathes. Tenebrae respiratis. The listener hears. Hear me! ...Unlock the gate. Let the darkness shine. Cover us with holy fear. Show me... Corsheth and Gilail! The gate is closed! Receive the dark! Be sated! Release the unworthy! Release! Release! RELEASE! There is a flash of light and the spells are all broken. The identity of "Corsheth and Gilail" is not clear. They may be demons, or they may be some sort of gods.

- Catherine's spell to put Buffy in the trophy
Catherine's spell to put Buffy in the trophy: This spell calls upon a mystical power named Corsheth: I shall look upon my enemy! I shall look upon her and the dark place will have her soul! Corsheth, take her!
With this simple supplication, Catherine, her eyes pitch black, lifts up her hands and sends a bolt of energy towards Buffy.

How do spells work? One fan speculates:

I'd say that the electrical currents set up by the witches brain when reciting a spell create a sort of lens for natural forces to funnel through and effect change. The magic circle, whatever ingredients or actions that accompany the spell are part of the lens, and direct the focus (Dianne, Dec 14 19:30 199 cool .

Im pretty darn sure that's no all the spells in the series because "no more skin" (dont know the actual title of the spell) is there, neither is willow's spell when she was trying to cast a spell to forget about Oz when Veruka came into the picture, or i didnt see the Incan princess spell either.

And I cant seem to get to some of the links on that page, so if you think you can fill out some of the info, please post it on the thread so we can have a full spellbook. Thanks!

I would like spells please, because in the Buffyverse we see Giles casting some pretty bad-a** stuff. Even Jonathon could, so as a guy I see spell-casting as the way to go...

The Slayer thing is Really, Really cool, but its a girl-power thing only...So I have to stick with spells (sigh)...but Willow and Tara could teach me, hmmm, maybe its not TOO bad, lol

May i join? the guild. I'm a REALLY HUGE FAN of buffy.

Anywayz....i would have to go with magical powers...or either the Elite Weapons. Especially the slayer scyth. If i could have both...it would be even more awsome.
I like the Elite weapons, cuz you could easily slay anything with them...but whose to say the weapon got stolen?.
But magic cant really be "stolen" or lost. So i would alwayz have it. And i could cast some pretty nasty spells...to some persons in school.fun fun fun.lol.

of course you may.

but dont forget, some demons cant be destroyed with weapons. look at The Judge. he couldnt be killed with any old weapon. they had to use a freakin bazooka lol
PostPosted: Mon May 28, 2007 6:54 pm

lol...he he he, yeah, i sees ur point...hmmm..i still think willow could have used an imprisonment spell or sumthin.Well, THE Judge came around when she wasnt a strong witch...so yeah, i guess the bazooka was needed. eek

this is how i see it. it's a game of rock/paper/scissors

magic beats weapons
weapons beat strength
strength beats magic

here's why:

with magic, you can literally disintegrate any weapon thrown at you in a second. magic can also get you insight as to what to expect from your attacker who is using a weapon. for example: it takes time to reload a xbow or something

with weapons, obviously if someone aims a gun at you from a distance, a round of wrestling wont stop the bullets. weapons can also be used in hack'n'slashes where basically, no amount of skin layers can protect you.

with strength, you really have to know what your body is able to handle before you can cast anything. look at Willow, she was getting so strong that she was getting winded at first, and when she got back to it (after she went cold-turkey), she was so weak it almost killed her.

(that was before she went all goddess-like)

@ Lynnae: Wow, insightful, but even after reading that, id have to say:

i voted weapons because with Elite weapons, you can kill all super strength people and aquire vaporizers that are just as capable of "disintegrating" things like a mage

Magic does take alot out of you. But the rewards are worth it.
