Popular as the Prince of the ramp, Arjun Rampal was discovered in a Delhi discotheque by designer, Rohit Bal. Ever since he was proclaimed Society’s face of the year, 1994, he has carved a niche for himself amongst India’s top male models. Modeling paved the way for his entry into films. His cute chiseled face made him a great hit with women. He is a person with good body language and his style of acting is special, putting honesty and authenticity in all the roles he plays. He resides in Mumbai with his family and describes himself as cool and casual.
His parents are Gwen and Amarjeet Rampal. Arjun and his younger sister attended the prestigious Kodaikanal International School, where his mother was a teacher. One of his cousins, Kim Sharma, is an actress and appeared with him in the film Yakeen. Arjun Rampal has done a lot for Charity, he is currently sponsoring 11 orphan children in an orphanage. He is married to Ex-Miss India Mehr Jessia. They have two daughters,Mahikaa, born on January 17, 2002 and Myra, born June 2005.
Designer Rohit Bal hired him as a model after seeing him in a disco. He worked as a model for several years.
His first movie was the 2001 film Moksha, directed by Ashok Mehta. However, this film was released after his next film, Pyaar Ishq Aur Mohabbat, in which he appeared with Sunil Shetty and Aftab Shivdasani. Although both films failed at the box office his performance in both films was appreciated by critics. In 2002 he won the Award of the International Indian Film Academy for Face of the Year.
Since his debut, he has worked steadily in films such as Aankhen (2002), Dil Hai Tumhaara, Yakeen (2005) and Darna Zaroori Hai (2006) none of which have been successful at the box office.
He has also appeared in the Temptations 2004 concert with stars Shahrukh Khan, Rani Mukerji, Saif Ali Khan, Preity Zinta, and Priyanka Chopra.
His recent film releases were the multi-starrer Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna where he had a guest appearance and Don - The Chase Begins Again which is a remake of the 1978 Amitabh Bachchan starrer Don. Rampal played the role of Jasjit which was played by Pran in the original.
Recently, he has decided to go behind the camera to make the film I See You (2006), to be released on December 29, 2006. He will also produce it with his own production company Chasing Ganesha Films. His wife, Mehr Jessia, is co-producing.
