Anyone read anything in the series? I ordered Hamlet in manga form. Still haven't finished reading it. It's got the language of the play, more or less, but it's set in the future. Still haven't gotten past the weirdness of that yet. And all the characters are bishie-fied. And the art isn't anything memorable. The artist uses too many screen-tones. I'll keep you all updated. Manga Hamlet

Fascinating, to say the least. Let us know how everything turns out!

You know I just saw this on the back of my Globe program. Sounds interesting...what sort of futuristic twist are they taking on Hamlet? It could work well if they went for some more Big Brother-esque scheme given all the spying and voyeurism.
According to the ad they also have done (or will be doing) Midsummer, Richard III, Tempest and R+J.

Shakespeare manga might be cool. I don't think they could translate it word for word, but keeping to the original intent of the script and being fair to the characters (not dumbing anybody down for the sake of comedy) and decent artwork could make it work.

You know...I've been wanting to see Shakespeare done in anime style for a while. Need to check out this manga.

Only one thing I have to say about Shakespeare Manga: If it's by a Japanese guy, it'll be pretty good, but if it's by an American... sometimes not so great.
King Lear in graphic novel form was pretty good, except for being scary as crap.

I would love to find a Shakespeare manga - Hamlet is one of my favorites, too. Plays like The Tempest would work well with manga since they're fantasy-ish.

I'm not so sure how I feel about Shakespeare in manga format... I just hope they don't cut down or dumb down the actual text.

Hmm... It's interesting. But it might be something of an acquired taste for most people, even for manga lovers. There's a lot of mixed reviews for Manga Hamlet now.
The hard part is juggling how much of Shakespeare must be put into another medium. For example, in Stoppard's absurdist play, "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead," the dialogue was rather messed up. Stoppard's unique way of doing that bothered me a lot. It just wasn't consistent.
