Welcome, new artist! You must be excited. This forum is for posting your art that you need help on. It may be anatomy, or shapes, or color. Or, you could be an experienced artist wanting to share your experience with the newer ones. How nice of you! whee

Here are some rules and guidelines that you need to follow in order to stay out of trouble:

Don't flame another person's art! That's just unkind AND it doesn't help an artist at all! You may be confused on what's flaming and what's criticism. Flaming is bad, criticism (even if it's a harsh or monotone) is good.

Example of Flaming:
"That piece is absolutely terrible!"
"Give up; it will never happen for you, even if it's a hobby!"
"It makes my eyes bleed!"

Any extreme negative comment like the ones above is counted as flaming.

Example of Criticism:
"You should work on your sense of anatomy."
"It would be a good idea to start with life instead of how you're starting now."
"Maybe you should pick up a drawing book from your favorite bookstore or art supply store."

This is called "constructive criticism." It helps new artists get better.

Don't spam. Spam is saying any random thing that comes to mind, without a stimulus. Spamming is bad, and bad gets you banned.

Don't post your work in another person's thread. This is called "thread hijacking." It takes a critic's attention away from a piece. If you want your art to be given attention, make your own thread.

Don't make threads for other people to post their work. That's just silly. Posting your artwork is what the entire forum is for.

Post only YOUR artwork. Even if you have permission from the original artist, this forum is for posting YOUR WORK only. Why would you want someone to criticize a piece you didn't do? That wouldn't help you, now would it?

Don't bring up dead threads. This is called "thread necromancy." The artist has probably gotten all the feedback they wanted and let the thread die.

Please keep your art posts current. What we mean is that you should make new threads when posting new artwork, rather than recycling the same thread over and over for weeks or months. This allows old art to move off the board and makes room for new work to be posted. If you post art very frequently, try keeping one thread updated for a few days and then making a new one so that your art posts remain fresh and representative of your current work. In the same vein, please do not revive your old art topics by posting a reply to an old comment to bump it back up to the top. Once a thread stops receiving replies and slips into the bowels of the forum, it's best to leave it there and start a new thread. If you really want to thank people for commenting in a dead thread, PM them and let them know you appreciate their words.

Don't create a contest here. This forum is for criticizing other member's artwork so they can help and become better artists. If you want to make an art contest, go to the Art Contests Forum

Have fun! heart
