They're kinda meh. They were great for getting me into power metal in the first place, because their sound is pretty mainstream, not like jumping straight into Rhapsody, but the riffs are far too repetitive for me and they can't play well outside of the studio, which, in my mind, is one of the most important things to define a metal band. If you suck live, it doesn't really matter what your CD sounds like.

The problem with Dragonforce is that so much of it simply isn't real. They can't back themselves up live. Them on AotS: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oii1EF7DnFMNot only do they sound horribly out of tune, but they're just unprofessional. Watch one of the band members fall over at 44 seconds. XD It sounds alright when it's altered by the studios, but stuff like Blind Guardian and Sonata Arctica simply blows them away in terms of both studio and live performances. Something about them sounds cluttered. It's like they're purposely trying to shove as many notes as possible into a 10 minute song. Though, as the above poster stated, I thank them for getting me into Power Metal! They've got a nice sound for easing people into the genre. wink

There are too many notes for a melody to exist. Power Metal is supposed to be melodic.

I rather enjoy them, actually.
They get a lotta crap for being popular, for playing for speed instead of actual variation, songs all sounding the same, and crappy sound live.
But who cares? I like 'em. Somewhat repetative? So what? I like 'em.
Never seen them live, and I don't really plan on it, but I enjoy their albums. And thats all that really matters.
When I want some real Power Metal and whatnot I listen to Blind Guardian or some of the other so many other bands to choose from.

There are too many notes for a melody to exist. Power Metal is supposed to be melodic. Now come on, WHO really sounds good on a youtube video? Some of their more recent stuff is a bit over the top, but Lost Souls in Endless Time is a great song. It was Soldiers of the Wasteland that introduced me to powermetal, and I still can't think of ANYTHING as epic as that song. And Dawn Over a New World and Evening Star are beautiful songs, just beautiful. Really DragonForce will always hold a special place in my heart because they are associated in my mind with the girl that gave me the gift of (power)metal. Trek by Night all rights reserved to Eric Allen Sharp 2007 This is the vision Soldiers of the Wasteland gave me last summer. I've not been the same since. So in conclusion, I'd like to see them get back to more Valley of the Damned and Sonic Firestorm type material, but DragonForce still rocks.

Sidenote: Though the drawing as a whole gave me nothing, I really love the colouring, it looks like those old text books one reads on Elementary, that for me were wonderful. Nice thing Cire.
Back on Dragonforce... Nein for guitar masturbation, ever since the first time I heard them I was like "Alright, this sounds quite decent", some months later I got their "Inhuman Rampage"(which in my humble opinion should be renamed to "Inhuman EarRape") and thought "what the living ******** is wrong with this?". After a few listens I got kinda of used to it, but on a second thought I realized how ******** mediocre it was, as it was using the same riffs since "Valley of the Damned" and the melodies and solos were all the same. I still like some songs on "Valley of the Damned" and "Sonic Firestorm", but as a whole, the albums are flawed as well.
So, Meh...

Also the whol getting very drunk falling over on stage, Having a frigging tamploine to jump up and down whislt playing uber fast is funny and cool. So meh to all of the critics I have faith in this man's claims. DragonForce certainly is not the greatest thing ever. But they are what they are. Inhuman Rampage WAS something of a letdown, but Flame of Youth and Lost Souls in Endless Time still are music to my ears. Their reputation may have exceeded their musicianship, but you gotta take it in for what it is. When I play a new Megaman/Rockman game, I pretty much know what to expect, but still I'm excited. DragonForce has that same sort of consistancy. I don't expect any supershocking surprises, but also never stagnation. Bands like Gamma Ray have 46x more diversity, but DragonForce still shines in it's own right. They too are like sugar cookies. One or two sporadically, is pretty great, but 5 at once is way too much sugar!
