Sorry if it's rushed or bad. This was a school projet and I just wanted some critism. Sorry about the format. Oh, yeah. Hoshi means star in Japanese.

Worse Than Cinderella

Pens. Paper. Stars. A ring. To some these may seem pointless and insignificant, but to me, they’re all I have left. Who am I? I’m Hope. Ironic right? How is it ironic? My parents died thirteen years ago, a day after my fifth birthday. After, I went all around New York going to different foster families and orphanages. Finally, I was such a ‘problem’, they offered my abusive, drunk of a step-mother Kory a monthly paycheck to adopt me. I guess they didn’t do a background check. Well I’m starting a new school tomorrow. I have to try my best so I can go to Juilliard, the most prestigious art academy in New York. Some day I hope to get out by going there. It’s time for bed. When I wake up, I’ll be at another school and I’ll have another student body ignore me.

-3rd person P.O.V.-

At the first sign of light shining through her window, Hope woke up and got ready. A gray and black long-sleeved shirt and a pair of black jeans adorned her lean frame as she left her house. On her feet she had black tennis shoes, around her waist she had an old, thin, black jacket. On her right ring finger she had a ruby, diamond encrusted ring, the last thing she had of her parents besides her fading memories. In her mouth she had a piece a toast while she pulled her black mid-back hair onto a pony-tail and she continued blinking the sleep out of her dull gray eyes.

1 week later
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It’d been one week since Hope had started school and already everyone hated her. The beatings from her ‘mother’ drizzled down a little but she still went to parties moderately, if not more frequently. She was currently in the art room for free period. Her ring lay next to her seemingly forgotten which, surprisingly, it was. The bell rang taking her out of her ‘trance’ and told everyone in the school to quickly go to their last class. She left as fast as she could hoping to be on time and forgot her ring in the process. All through 6th period she felt as if she was forgetting something. Only when she was about to go home did she realize what it was. Running to the art room she yelled “ I’m such an idiot! I’m so sorry mom, dad.” She spent the next 30 minutes searching for her precious ring. When she couldn’t find it, she sat against a wall and started banging her head. The tenth time she hit her head, she heard chuckling coming from the doorway. She turned and saw a tall semi-average looking boy leaning against the doorway laughing at her. “Is this what you’re looking for?” as he said this he held up the ring. “YES!!” she shouted and quickly ran to get from him. After, she collected her things and started to leave. When she was six feet away from the door, another shout was heard.

“ A thanks would be nice.” The strange boy was out side the door looking at her expectantly.
“ Thanks” she mumbled.
“ Now that wasn’t so hard was it? My names Hoshi, you?” he said walking up to her.
“ Hope.” Was she blushing?
“ That’s a nice name.”
“ But it’s not as nice as Hoshi though, I mean, there’s no way hope is as great as star.”

What was this she was feeling? The need to want to be nice to this boy? For him to be kind back? It didn’t make sense. Everyone was supposed to hate her and she was supposed to either not care or wallow in self pity. Not that she didn’t like it. It was nice to be spoken to as if she was wanted, as if she was loved and love that person back.
Love! Did she love him? They had only just met and besides, what if didn’t love her or was already taken? No, not the point. They had just met and everyone was supposed to hate her. Easy. As. That.

“ Hope’s a great name. Greater than star. It’s a symbol for love and that anything can happen with some hope.”
‘ Please don’t let him see me blush please’ For once things were going her way. Not only did the blush go unaware, she also got to spend a little more time with Hoshi not just for the day but every day since he found her ring.

It turned out, Hoshi and Hope had almost the same schedule and spent every moment they could together. The only thing different was their sixth hour class. The reason that they hadn’t met until then was because he was spending the first week of school out of town with the rest of his family in Japan. Irony still loved hope a little bit though it seemed. It turned out, not only was Hoshi’s mother a police officer but his father a social worker.

As the weeks and months went on, Hope got more confident she had more friends, was accepted into Juilliard, and was closer with Hoshi. Hope had told him what was happening at home but made him promise not to tell anyone unless she was dying. He reluctantly agreed but it was soon forgotten and they had finally admitted their feelings to each other and everyone was happy.

Except Kory. She had yelled at Hope who yelled back and left to Hoshi’s house. To say Kory was mad would be an understatement. Not only was Hope not listening, but money wasn’t being sent to her because the orphanage that Hope had been adopted from found out about her acceptance to Juilliard. As far as they were concerned, it was an excuse not to pay Kory anymore.

So all she had to do was make sure Hope didn’t go to school.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hope woke up in a hospital bed not knowing how she got there. She painfully sat up at the same time a door opened. Standing in the doorway, was Hoshi her shining star.
“ What happened to me?” was the first thing she said to him.
“ You forgot your ring at home right before our date. You went to go get it and didn’t come back for an hour. Since I know how far away your house is it should have taken only fifteen minutes. I went to go see what was going on and I heard yelling. I called my dad quickly told him everything then went to get you. When I went in, you were really hurt and Kory was unconscious on the floor. I waited for my dad and the cops and then we left. It’s been a week since then.
The doctors didn’t think you would make it. You had me worried sick.”
“ I’m sorry. I didn’t think that would happen.”
“ It’s okay. Just…don’t do it again.”

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

That was my life four years ago. After the incident, Hoshi’s parents took me in. we both finished at the top of our class and went to Juilliard. Tonight he’s taking me out and was saying something about ‘wanting to be my only shining star’. Whatever that means.

Wow... I think I like this version of Cinderella better than the fairy tale. (The fairy godmother always kinda annoyed me with her blue robes and little wand *shudders*) Well, if it is a Cinderella thing anyways, I'm just going off of the title to tell you the truth ^^'

You did a really good job, the warning for the thrid person switch was a good idea, I would have gotten really confused.
