Are you vegetarian/vegan?
Yes, I am! (Tell me what kind and why!)
I thought about it, but I'm not currently.
I would not want to be a vegetarian/vegan.

Hello all!

As the title suggests, I have decided to go vegeterian with my sister. We are going to support each other and hopefully this will not only turn out to be a great new eating lifestyle, but that I will lose weight and help a cause.

To be specific, I am a octo-lacto vegetarian, which means that I will still eat eggs and dairy products (however I love lite soymilk heart )

My sister is cutting out eggs, making her a lacto vegetarian.

I have to say not only is it making me feel excited to try something new, many of my vegetarian meals are very low in fat, sugars, and calories. Instead of looking at is as a diet, I am looking it as both a diet and my new lifestyle which is making it easier for me to really think about what I am eating.

One thing I am worried about is the vitamin and mineral intake. I purchased some supplements specifically for vegetarians that is filled with stuff to help. Now I need to find out what veggies I can eat that'll provide me with enough nutritional value through the day.

Discuss:

Have you ever thought about vegetarian/vegan?
Any tips?

Eat a variety of vegetables,
And I think you'll be fine.

Eat some beans like lima beans, kidney beans, and soybeans for the protein.
Spinach, carrots, brocolli, green peppers for the vitamin A.
Mushrooms, cucumbers, and celery for the potassium.
Garlic for the calcium, phosphorus, and potassium.
Turnips, brocolli, and garlic have moderate vitamin C.
Green peas and corn for the fiber.

Wow, thank you for the tips. smile I printed it and am keeping it on the fridge as a reminder.

Since I've posted this the lacto-ovo part has cut dramatically. Now I only eat eggs or milk is when it's in a recipe. I will not consume them on their own (like an egg or a cup of cow milk. I will then eat mimick egg and soy). heart

Hello! I'm a vegetarian, and have been for about a year. Starting today, actually, I'm trying to avoid all dairy, except for foods that contain small amounts of egg/milk that aren't substantial. It's kind of hard to avoid dairy, though, since I'm allergic to nuts and chick peas and thus have limited options for protein...
You should be okay as far as vitamins/minerals are concerned, especially if you are taking vitamins like you mentioned.
So anyway, good luck on your new, healthy lifestyle! ^^;

Thank you. =D It sounds like your diet is pretty similar to mine with the lacto stuff in small ingredient forms. Wow, being allergic to nuts and chickpeas must be hard, especially because of the omega-3 stuff needed in them. I can see why you still consume some dairy. smile Good luck with the dairy-avoidance!

I've been a vegetarian for about four months I think. It's easy, but I haven't lost any weight. Just to let you know: A vegetarian doesn't necessarily lose anything. : D Mostly for people considering it.

birdie blue i love you

Very true, glad you brought that up.

When vegetarian it is still possible to stay the same weight. Vegetarian still means portion and calorie control (although I've found it easier because a lot of veg*n dishes are super low in calories). And have to worry more about nutrients and stuff in the dishes to keep health levels up. However I am eating a whole lot better per calorie then before my dieting. smile

I am vegetarian. For some reason, I just dont like meat..... When I did eat meat, I thought beef and pork was gross. I just love natural stuff that came from the earth. I dont even like carbonated drinks *big gasp* But however, I love raspberry tea.

I love raspberry and blueberry tea. They are so good!

I've been the same way about fish and pork. Just never could get it down, lol.
