Introduction

Students ran throughout the streets, even those who'd rather cut school eager to reach it. In a few minutes it would start raining again, and the rain could be toxic. Sometimes, it was acid and would burn holes in your skin. Sometimes it was so thick it was almost sludge-like and would leave sickly colored stains on your flesh.
And sometimes it was so misty that it could be breathed in- that was the worst kind of rain. It could mutate you or kill you, and yet leave someone else perfectly fine. Of course there were other types of rains, ones that wouldn't bother you or that merely smelled bad or made puddles that reminded you of puke. But you could rarely tell when the rain would be harmless- or deadly.
Only a few stayed outside. These were not necessarily the idiots, the dumb kids, or the dare devils. A few of them looked perfectly normal. A few were your average weird-os. And one was their leader.
But she didn't care.

Setting

A city sometime a few centuries into the future. Gray clouds always coat the sky, bottoms constantly scraped by the towering concrete buildings. There are arcades, malls, all sorts of places for teens young and old to hang out- even during school. Everyone assumes if you're out of school, even if you're blasting dragons on a screen, you must have a good reason.
The school itself is an ordinary high school, only with steel plates instead of windows to keep the Rain out. The teachers are usually not very strict because they know the students know that even being good in school is better than being anywhere else.

Becca leaned back against the building, crossing her arms behind her head. She watched the clouds swirl above, green tints on a wispy, almost solid blue-brown background. That would be safe enough, although it would make sensitive eyes sting a bit. Since her eyes were sensitive, Becca pushed off the wall and wandered down the street into the library. A few of the Rain kids followed her, a few gave up and went to school, not sure if her actions meant it was safe or not.

Raen looked up as Becca came into the library, giving her a small smile and looking back at the book, which she covered up with a second one as the librarian passed. With a small sigh of relief she moved the top book and went back to the first, which was, as usual, on mixing alcoholic drinks. She hated being asked to make something she didn't know how to, which was fairly common, so she was constantly reading these books, more so she'd actually make enough money to stay fed.

Returning Raen's brief smile with a nod at the back of her head, Becca headed for the History section. Not that it interested her, but she had exhausted the fiction and was not prepared to resort to sci-fi... life was enough of a science-fiction tale as it was.

"Raen, a girl your age doesn't need to be reading these." the librarian scolded, scooping the open book from the girl's lap.
"But, it's for a friend! She's having a party and asked me to look up the recipies for her!" she objected, sighing at the woman's stern glare. "Fine..." she muttered, getting up and going to find Becca, as the librarian was making sure she didn't go anywhere near where the book had been. "I hate people..." she sighed, leaning against the shelf as she watched her friend.

Agreeing with a mm-hm, Becca continued browsing. Which would be most interesting? The second World War, or the fifth? "Took your book again, did she? Really... what's the point of a library..." Sighing, she straightened. "Shame there's no place better..." The other 'libraries' were more like cyber cafes... considering nothing was paper- or hardback because it was almost entirely digital. "We could go to the new one across town... I'm sure the librarians there don't much care what you look up."

"But that's the wonders of a photographic memory, you only have to read it once and you'll know it." she said with a grin. "I don't care, do you wanna go?" she asked.

"I don't much care. I'd just as soon not go outside, but... eh, want to get hot chocolate...? Coffee? Vodka?" Becca added the last one on with just a bit of sarcasm. " There's a nice place down the street, I think..."

"Sure, I have some money with me... Is the rain safe?" she asked, hearing the gentle patter of it on the roof.

Keith walked into the library cautiously, for fear of being shood out as in some other cities. He looked around after a moment in which the librarian stared but didn't speak, and slowly decided it was relatively safe.
He walked in a short bit of the way and looked up at one of the tall bookshelves. He hadn't seen the inside of a book in years...
His ears picked up voices of a pair of girls talking, and he really tried not to listen but it wasn't any good.

((If you haven't seen Kieth's profile, his appearance is extremely important))

Hitomi snuck silently behind the boy. She reached up and fuzzed his hair, a bright grin on her face,"Hello, there. Whatcha doing?"

In a single motion that was also a reflex, he barked and turned around, baring his teeth and placing his claws less than an inch from the supposed attacker's neck. However, he then immediately shrunk back at his own reaction. "Er...I'm really sorry, I..." he started, trying to explain it in a way that someone might actually listen.

Calmly observing the activity over near the door, Becca nodded. "Just a bit... annoying for some of us," she replied, gesturing vaguely towards her eyes. "It was when I came in, anyway."

Hitomi was a bit taken aback by her new acquaintance's behavior but she smiled and hugged him as he attempted to explain, for some reason she was in an oddly happy mood and besides, it isn't like she'd be offended for his attempt on her life, if anything, she was a bit disappointed he hadn't let hs claws slip just an inch firther...no, no time for that, "It's fine," she laughe, unruffled.
