I had just recieved infomation about a new gundam series that will be airing in Japan October of this year. From what rumors there are, it'll be directed by the same guy that did FMA and the character designs from Yun Kouga, the manga-ka that brought you Loveless. Here's a teaser trailor for ya'll:

Oh and the website:
http://www.gundam00.net/

Personally, from just the teaser, I think the mechs will look much nicer than the ones from SEED, SEED Destiny, or even Stargazer. I just hope it doesn't follow the CE timeline.

So get to discussing.

As I posted elsewhere...

Quote:
Whoo hoo! New Mobile Suit Gundam 00 goodies!

Starting from the top...

  • We now have a name for the blue Gundam shown in the teaser: the Gundam Excia.

  • Its "Meister" is the dark-haired boy at the end of the trailer, whose name is Setsuna Fanron Seiei. He grew up in the "war-torn" Middle East and was discovered by "Celestial Being" when he was 14 to have great potential as a pilot. He's rather quiet and comes off as cold. He's currently 16 years of age.

  • "Celestial Being" is a "mysterious" non-profit, politically-unaffiliated, non-ideological organization that is attempting to single-handedly stop armed conflict with only the four GUNDAMs that it created.

  • The GUNDAM Mobile Suits were created independently by "Celestial Being," and far surpass anything the two warring superpoweres have to offer. Each is designed to decimate entire armies individually.

  • Our new power-generator of choice is called a "Solar Generator," which is really just a common name for a generator known as the "GN Drive." I'm not actually sure how it works yet, but apparently it somehow uses the power of the Sun to destroy matter (emitting positrons and photons) to create electrical energy. It also doesn't give off any excess heat as a by-product. Compact versions of these Generators are what power the GUNDAMs.

  • This series' Minovsky particle-wannabe is the GN particle, which seems to be an abnormal neutrion that was stumbled upon by the scientific community accidentally. They're the origin of the research that led to the GN Drive, and when a GN Drive is activated, these particles are automatically created. And yes, they do mess with radio waves.

  • The two warring superpowers seem to be the Union (America, Japan, Canada, and Australia), and the People's Reform Federation(?) (China, Russia, India).

  • There appear to be (gasp! Gundam first!) no space colonies. At least, none have been mentioned so far.

Continue discussing!

Nothing revolutionary. Excia looks like standard main Gundam? Plot is pretty standard except for the lack of colonies, and it sounds more Wing-like in that the Gundams were designed to be able to take entire armies.

I do know the Director was the guy who directed FMA. And the character design artist is the one who did the Anime for Loveless

Nah I would never say that. But that's a japanese Newtype, and I'm pretty sure no actual info has been released in the english Newtype.

Japan tends to be ahead of America when it comes to info.

Gundam tends to at least come to DVD in the US fairly quickly.

I see no problem.

Who said there was a problem?

I try to open a simple discussion and I get mauled for being slightly behind everyone else?

The series aired its first episode yesterday, and I have to say it looks pretty good so far. The series already has a lot of people calling it Full Metal Gundam, not just because of director Seiji Mizushima (who also did FMA), but the early storyline elements were thought to be evocative of Full Metal Panic.

Setsuna is a bit like Heero or Sosuke, inasmuch as he grew up in the Middle East and was constantly surrounded by war, so he's grown up distant and serious. Years of political propaganda in which soldiers invoked God's name while slaughtering their enemies seems to have made him an atheist. The other Gundam Meisters are Lockon Stratos, a laid-back but hot-blooded sniper whose co-pilot is an orange Haro; Allelujah Haptism, who speaks fairly pompously and refers to himself in the third person; and Tieria Erde, a very feminine young man who, like Setsuna, is quiet and serious.

One of the problems with the first episode is that it rather frenetically introduces a whole mess of new characters, including the AEU pilot Patrick Corlasawar (who is rapidly giving off the same airs as Zeta Gundam's Jerid Messa and Code Geass' Jeremiah "Orange" Gottwald). Also worth noting is that the captain of the Gundam Meisters' mothership, Sumeragi Ri Noriega, is a laid-back woman with a brilliant strategic mind and a love of the drink; I'm already getting Misato Katsuragi vibes from her. Otherwise, it's hard to get a good feel for anyone introduced in this episode.

The animation was fluid and the story was interesting - people immediately note the contradiction in Celestial Being's stated goal of using warfare to end warfare.

Here's the picture from the end of the opening...for those who can't identify, Setsuna is front and center, wearing a white shirt and a scarf. Sumeragi is the brown-haired woman standing next to him, and the other Meisters are nearby; the guy with the Trowa hair behind Setsuna is Allelujah, the one with long brown hair near them is Lockon, and Tieria is the one with the pink sweater and glasses. Also, I get a really strong vibe that Felt Grace (the pink-haired girl next to Sumeragi) is going to become a pilot later on...am I the only one there?

I find it very interesting, especially that snipper.... and regarding Gundam Excia, I love the engine design. (even though it really reminds me of the sci-fi series Firefly (Serenity))

Discussion of this series should be revived. If anyone else sees this and is interested, I've just seen the most recent subs on crunchyroll.com.
