Profile System Update : June 6/2007:
Quote: As we mentioned earlier today, we've been rewriting our profile system to be much more stable and compatible. We've also added some new features and changed some thing that may affect your profile, so please take a quick gander at this list of tweaks:
The following changes are for newer (version 2) profiles only:
* Adding custom CSS stuff to your profile, and messing with the style of your Comments and Friends, has been moved to the new Profile Theme page in your account settings.
* We've added a "Recent Visitors" panel, which will show the usernames of people who have checked out your profile recently. Don't worry; people won't know that you were checking out their profile unless you want them to. You'll remain hidden from view unless you change the "Recent Visitors" option in your Profile Preferences panel to "Show."
* Big Change: There is now a "Save" button! You've gotta press it, or your profile changes won't be saved!
These changes will affect all profiles, both old and new:
* You can now choose whether or not you want to display the following info: Last login, registration date, gender, location, birthday, occupation and website. You can mess with these options in the Profile Preferences panel.
* You can change whether your profile is "public" or "private" (if it's private, only your friends can view it). Hit up the Profile Preferences panel to change this.
* If you want to embed YouTube videos in your media section, you just have to grab the movie's URL (i.e. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VaB7BQ6PlHs) and plug it in, and it will automatically be changed to the proper embedding code.
* Another Big Change: You can now access your profile by putting your username in the URL (i.e. http://www.gaiaonline.com/profiles/Your_Username_Here or http://www.gaiaonline.com/p/Your_Username_Here).
A final word of caution: Although we've worked very hard to make everybody's profiles work properly with these new changes, there may be a few people whose profiles broken in one place or another. You may have to make some tweaks to your profile to make it look right again, especially if you're using custom code.

New System:
Quote: We've also released a new system which will let members bring much-deserved attention to their favorite profiles, journals, homes, and guilds. If you see a great profile, journal, home or guild, and you'd like to recommend it to be spotlighted, here's how to do it: * For profiles: click the "recommend" button in the black bar at the top of the profile. * For homes: currently, you can only recommend homes from the "Home Preview" in a person's profile. * For journals: click the "recommend" link in the journal navigation. * For guilds: click the "Recommend this Guild" link in the top-right of any guild page. We'll definitely be looking at your picks when we choose spotlight items for the home page, so please feel free to show us your favorite stuff!

Gaia's Navigation System :
Quote: Bwahahaha! A change in Gaia's navigation? It's none of my concern, since I navigate through life guided only by my masculine sense of purpose and the solid-gold compass of capitalism! But maybe you should read this... ------------------------ Hello, Gaians! In the coming months, we'll be making gradual changes to the site's interface to make it better looking and easier to navigate. The first of these changes is an overhaul of the site's navigation links and notification area. Instead of the old notification buttons, you'll now see a little thought bubble showing your new private messages, announcements, pending trades, etc. Here's what it looks like: We've also removed the row of "quick launch" buttons, but have no fear! You can now navigate quickly and easily with the links in the light blue row at the top of the page. When you move your mouse over them, a menu will open showing all the navigation options under that link (for example, if you move your mouse over the Community link, you'll see links for Forums, Guilds, Arenas, Marketplace, etc.). We hope this makes things a little easier!

Tweaking Username System :
Quote: Hey guys, the admins asked me to give you this note: -------------------------- Over the past few weeks, we've been tweaking our username system to find the right balance between security and customization. A couple of weeks ago, we limited new username registrations to letters, numbers, and hyphens only. We've now made it so new usernames can once again include spaces and underscores. If you already have a username with special characters in it (such as apostrophes, tildes, parentheses, etc), you aren't required to change it. These changes will only affect new registrations and username changes. We've also made it so that adding spaces, hyphens, or underscores to your username is free! So, for example, if your username is PorkWizard, you could change it to any of the following variations for free: * P o r k W i z a r d * Pork_Wizard * -_- PORK-WIZARD -_- However, if you add new letters or numbers to your name, it will cost gold. So, changing your name to these variations would not be free: * PorkWizard1 * PorkWizardDeluxe * A bit of a PorkWizard Of course, this only works if nobody is already using the name you choose. We're still in the process of revamping the username system; if you notice any strange glitches related to your username, please let us know! You can file an inquiry using our Inquiry Form (please select "General Inquiry" as the subject).

Avatar Exporter :
Quote: You there! Stop slouching! The admins have prepared this important statement: ---------------------- Whether you've worked long hours to create a fashionable, perfectly-matched ensemble or just thrown on whatever was lying around, your Gaia avatar is a little pixelated extension of yourself. Now we've made it easier than ever to haul it around wherever you go. We've added the Avatar Exporter to the site, which lets you export your avatar for use on other websites. You can create icons of your avatar to use in instant messaging programs, stick it in your online journal, or use it instead of a photo in one of those popular "social networking" sites we've been hearing about in the news! Hand in hand with the Avatar Exporter is the Sig Lab, which lets you create nifty custom signatures to use on Gaia or any other site that uses signature images. So, what are you waiting for? Scatter your pixels to the winds and see what sprouts: go check out our Avatar Exporter, featuring the incredible Gaia Sig Lab. It's the quickest way to integrate Gaia with the rest of your online life. For now. We're working on a machine that crushes your body to pixels and lets you live entirely inside the Internet, but it currently has some minor bugs involving instant death. To get to the Avatar Exporter, go to your Inventory Equip Screen and click "Export Avatar."

Tattoos Update :
Quote: Ooh, tattoos! I've been wanting a new one for a long time… maybe I'll go get inked up! ---------------- It would be an understatement to say that you've been waiting for tattoos for a long time. Well, they're here. They're on the site. You can have 'em. RIGHT NOW. -How do I get a tattoo? To get a tattoo, you'll need ink. You can get ink by catching bugs in Gaia Towns and bringing them to Moira at the Durem Depot. Click "Exchange Bugs" to trade your bugs for ink. Usually, you'll need 50 bugs of the same type to make one vial of ink, but certain rare bugs will give you ink instantly. When you have some ink, bring it to our new store, Skin Tyte. Click on "Buy Tattoo," and Devin will show you all the designs you can get with your ink. The more ink you have, the bigger and cooler you can make your tattoos. Devin can also mix your inks into special colors, so you'll have even more options. -How do I equip my tattoo? You can equip your tattoos just like any other item. Open your inventory screen and click on your tattoo to put it on your avatar. You can equip them and remove them whenever you want. Unlike in real life, if you get a tattoo you regret, you're not stuck with it forever. Whew! -Who are these new people? Even if you don't want to get inked up, you can still go say howdy to Natasha and Devin, our tattoo shop proprietors. Natasha runs the front counter and sells a small selection of jewelry, and the mysterious Devin handles the tattooing. He may look a little scary, but don't worry: he's a peaceful dude. -What took you so long? Some of you have been waiting forevvverrrr for tattoos to be released, so here's the scoop: Originally, we intended tattoos to be permanent. Meaning they would stay on your avatar forever. This would have required a lot of changes to the way our items are programmed, so we put the tattoo shop on hold until we could do a massive overhaul to our item system. But the more feedback we heard from users, the more we realized that most people actually don't want their tattoos to be permanent. To a lot of people, it's more fun if they're not! So, here they are. -Wait… you said at Anime Expo that tattoos would be coming out on Tuesday. Ha! Fooled you! -Will you have permanent tattoos in the distant future? Maybe! Then again, you could also ask if mankind would one day create a ham-flavored cola beverage, and our answer would also be "maybe." But if I had to bet on it, I'd say that permanent tattoos are more likely. -I've been waiting for tattoos forever, and now they're here, and I have nothing to look forward to icon_sad.gif First of all, please don't end your sentences with prepositions. Secondly, fear not, squire: the Battle System is still in the cards. Seriously. We're making it. Right now, at this very instant, it is being made. I could walk over to the other side of the office right now and ask them, "hey, whatcha doin'?" and a dozen people would yell, "shut up, we're busy making the Battle System." Why not click this gigantic, gleaming red button to get a tattoo RIGHT NOW?

Battle System: New forum and info page!:
Quote: The Battle team has been slaving away in secrecy for quite a while, but the time has come to start trickling out some info! Over the coming months, we'll slowly reveal a little more about our upcoming MMO. We've set up a new forum dedicated to discussing Battle, where you can post your thoughts and get your questions answered by our Battle system developers. We've also posted a new Battle info page, where you can learn a little about the characters, gameplay and enemies in our world. We hope to update this page regularly with new info, so keep an eye out! LINKS:

Customizable Car System:
Quote: Dust off your driving gloves, Gaians: Scion is sponsoring a new feature that puts you behind the wheel of your own customizable car! Now you can do all kinds of cool stuff, like: * Buy your own Gaia car * Customize it with colors and accessories * Show it off at the Auto Show * Race against other Gaians To get started, click the "My Car" section under the "My Gaia" link at the top of the page. Once you're there, you can buy some wheels from Edy's Autos. Edy's got three cars to choose from: the gas-guzzling Musculero, the sporty Possum, and the super-customizable Scion xB. When you've picked your car, click the "Buy Parts" button to head over to Sam's Body & Parts, where you can pick up colors and accessories for your ride. When you've got the stuff you want, click the "Customize" button to deck out your car. The main window lets you can equip all the cool stuff you bought, or you can use the checkbox on the left to add your custom car to your signature. Please note: After you buy items from Sam's, they will take about one minute to show up in your Customize screen. Ready to show your wheels to the world? Click the "Meet Up in Rally" button on the My Car page (or select "Rally" under the Games link) to head to the Rally. Select your server, join a room, and pick your parking spot at the Auto Show or the 24/7 lot. While you're there, you can click on another Gaian's car to challenge them to a race! After you've challenged a friend, other Gaians can come along to watch the race and cheer you on. Racing is pretty simple: click the red button to speed up, but watch out for obstacles! Cows, UFOs, and jump ramps can mess you up if you're not careful. Well, what's stopping you? Hit the road!

Introducing Gaia Cash Quote New Post
Hey! Take a look at the upper right corner of your screen, next to where your Gold is displayed. See that new number? It's your Gaia Cash, the new replacement for the old Gift Credit system. As a little "thank you" to our loyal members, we've given every active Gaian a small introductory balance of Gaia Cash.
(If you already had Gift Credits in your account, you may have noticed that the number up there is much smaller. Don't worry! You're rich! Read on for more info.)
After a lot of debate and economic tweaking, we decided to phase out Gift Credits and create a new currency that would be much more valuable and versatile. Here are a few of the benefits:
* You can use it to buy shop items AND Monthly Collectibles, whereas Gift Credits could only be used in the shops.
* The value of Gaia Cash is much higher than Gift Credits. We didn't feel that Gift Credits were a good enough deal, so Gaia Cash will get you about three times as much value for every dollar.
* We introduced a promotional code system along with Gaia Cash that will allow us to do some massively cool stuff. These codes can be given out during special promotions (conventions, contests or whatever) and redeemed for Gold, items, Gaia Cash or just about anything else. Neat!
For now, Gaia Cash is just a cool new way to get a good value for your money. But in the future, we'll be able to do boundlessly cool stuff with it.
What are you waiting for? Hit the shops and spend your Gaia Cash! If you'd like to pick up a little more Cash, you can visit the Gaia Cash page here.
Gaia Cash Q&A:
What happened to my Gift Credits? I had a lot of them, and now I only have a few! Your gift credits have been automatically converted into Gaia Cash. Though the number may be smaller ($1 is equal to 100 Gaia Cash), you can buy a lot more stuff with it. Gaia Cash has a much higher value than Gift Credits, so you actually have the equivalent of about three times as much purchasing power as you had before.
I didn't have any Gift Credits, but now I have a small balance of Gaia Cash in my account. Is this a bug? No! We've given every active member a small balance of Gaia Cash to thank them for using Gaia. You can go ahead and spend your Cash in Gaia shops, or save it toward a future Monthly Collectible. Enjoy it!
Will everyone get free Gaia Cash, even new users? The introductory balance of Gaia Cash was only given to people who already had active accounts. Any new accounts registered will not start out with any Gaia Cash. If you registered your account after this announcement was posted, or if you had not logged in for many months, you may not have received any free Gaia Cash.
Where can I buy Gaia Cash? To get some Gaia Cash, you can click the "GStore" link in the top navigation bar and then click the Gaia Cash image. You can go directly to the Gaia Cash purchase page here.
Can I buy Gaia Cash for someone else? This is another big difference from Gift Credits: for the moment, there is no way to purchase Gaia Cash for other people. In the coming months, it will be possible to purchase Gaia gift cards for your pals.
Can I trade my Gaia Cash with other members? No. Once Gaia Cash is purchased, it stays in your account until you spend it.
Can I spend Gaia Cash in the marketplace? No. Gaia Cash cannot be used to purchase items on the marketplace. It can only be used for items in the Gaia shops and for Monthly Collectibles.
Is this some sneaky way to turn Gaia into a pay site? Absolutely not. Gaia will remain just as free as ever. We just wanted to make sure that the people who do choose to spend money on Gaia will just get a fair bargain for their money. Upcoming (optional!) items or features might use Gaia Cash, but they'll be worth it!
