And I hear it over and over again. "Oh lucky!" or "Oh my Gosh, you're so lucky!" Ever gotten a whole lot of that? Ever gotten on a whole lot of your nerves?

I hear it a lot, but it doesn't get on my nerves.
Why does it get on your nerves?

I don't hear it anymore. I don't know anyone who would care, now that I'm in highschool. I wish people told me that. All my public schooled friends like school because of all the friends they have there...

Actually, it is true for me, because I have the choice if I want to go back to school, which I kind of do, only I'm scared I won't fit in after living my whole life being homeschooled. But I think I'm lucky to have the choice of being homeschooled or public schooled.

Oddly I get it more now that I'm not home schooled. I was taught at home when I was 7 until ... well 11 I guess and I'm now 17 but yeah I get it way more now and a part of me is like "yep I was" and another part is like "no not really, its pretty isolating sometimes."

Unschooling hasn't been isolating at all. I have many friends and I go places all the time. People just assume that I'm a girl shut up in her house all the time and that my Mother or my brother is my only friend. It makes me laugh but I feel a little sad for them for being so ignorant.

I have that happen to me a lot. And it always suprises them when people come up to me out of the blue to say hi, or ask if I'm coming to the next martial arts class. (^o^)/

what i hate more is people thinking we are all freaky religious cults and calling our kids isolated and not letting our kids play with their because they are "weird". well i guess we are isolated then if you keep telling your kids not to play with ours then huh mate? tell them to read the teenage liberation handbook and impart on them that it is legal for kids to home school themselves. source

I get it a lot, but I like it... It's better than those cold, blank stares some people give me.

A common question around here is "What school do you go to?". Of course, I politely reply that I'm homeschooled, and nearly everyone gives me this cold stare and changes the subject. It's like they think I'm an alien rolleyes

About a year ago, I told my new "friend" and her mom I was homeschooled, and she (the daughter) called me Saten to my face before her mom hurried her off. (All while throwing harried looks back at me, of coarse.)
I normally don't pay much mind to kids being slightly confused at my being homeschooled, but when the parents react...oddly to finding out I'm homeschooled I start to get annoyed.
