Hunter and jumper both are jumping. hunter is based on how nicely the horse and rider go around and over the jumps (judged on looks). jumper is on how fast u go around the course.
english pleasure and other flat classes are just going round and round an arena with other horses, showing off walk trot canter and being judged on how you and your horse go around.
dressage you do tests. there are markers around the arena and ur in it alone. each different test requires different things at certain letters. u do the test, and get marked on how well u did each "movement" and generally how you and your horse went.
as for the horses used for each of these, when u get up to the high levels, there are mostly warmbloods with the occational spanish horse or TB. QH hunter and english pleasure is big tho too. for hunter and english pleasure u want the same type of horse: quiet, simple, well trained, and pretty. for jumpers, u want something really responsive, fast and strong. for dressage, u want a horse thats ultra sensitive, extremely well trained and that can collect and extend (i personally like the big thick hanoverians for dressage, but everyone has their own taste, ive seen lots of finer boned horses get to the top).

Thanks for the help! I was also wondering, aren't there "Hunter Under Saddle" classes for Hunter on the flat? I know nothing about that. sweatdrop

Oh, ok. I like how in hunters you get judged on how cleanly you go around the course rather than how fast you do, but I also don't like how its judged so much on looks. rolleyes
