Hey, I've noticed that most of my homeschooled friends (and me) are depressed a lot...IDK if it is just irony but i don't know if its cuz were like in the house 24/7. The only place I have socialization is, church, phone, and internet. But is anyone else this way???

I'm actually quite happy. I prefer being alone and teaching myself everything. I'm really shy, though.

Yeah, I like being alone a lot, too. And I like to learn at my own pace and stuff. But sometimes I just want more then one friend, because even though my friend is my best, I can get just the slightest bit tired of her. I always know what shes going to say biggrin

Well, maybe it's because you guys aren't making an effort. You can't really expect new friends to just "show up" magically. wink Do you get together with your homeschool friends at all? Do you all attend the same church? Maybe you could start a regular group there. Are there Parks & Rec classes in your town/county? It's somewhere to start at least. Oh, and Yahoo groups can make it easy to start your own IRL homeschool group. Best of luck.

I'm not depressed at all. But, I also don't spend all day in the house. 2 choirs, martial arts, homeschool events, babysitting, painting classes, bellydancing, and Japanese take up a lot of my time, being more then once a week, and when I am home, I'm busy studying.
I think you really have to put forth effort in order to do things when you're homeschooled. Since the schools aren't arranging things, you need to do it yourself. But that's also half the fun. (Okay, maybe only 1/3 of the fun!)

I let them come to me. That's how I've always made good friends. I'm not the type who can come up to any old stranger and say "Hi!" I'm happy because I'm not held back with the rest of the class doing review for like half the year. That happened to my brother when he was in fourth grade and when I was in sixth, which was the same year, I was held back for nearly the entire year. Whoever runs the public school systems are incredibly stupid in thinking everyone needs to go at the same pace.

*points to raven* yeah what she said. besides if they are teenagers and or have problems not necessarily attributed to homeschooling then that might just be a part of the depression. having been a teen i can safely say that bart simpson was correct and making teenagers depressed is like shooting fish in a barrel.

Someone probably already said this, but you need to get out the house. Go to a park, go swimming or skating or whatever you like, join clubs, meet people.

If you feel depressed, go do something with other people.

Awesome. Were they with live actors, too, or just the movie? The one in Fort Worth has people acting it out on the floor in front of the screen.
