I need to know some signs of when kids are ready to be potty-trained, how you got your kids trained, any tips you have, and stories so I know what's ahead of me.

Here's my dilemma: My daughters are 22 months old. They don't really talk much English yet, mainly just "twin talk"- gibberish that they understand but no one else does. So they can't say "mommy, I have to go potty". But Hannah has developed a really annoying way of telling me when she needs to be changed, and I take this as a sign that she knows that having a wet/dirty diaper is "icky" and also as a sign maybe I should start potty-training. (Lilly, by the way, doesn't do this yet.)

So any tips or tricks would be appreciated, and I know there are other mommies with babies about my age, so it would help them out too. Plus, potty training stories are always funny! (Maybe not so much at the time though!)

Basically what I did, was I got training pants, and said I put those on my kids, and I would put them on the potty, I have to say my daughter was easy to potty train cauise she didn't like being wet..You can try the reward system like a treat of an M&M or maybe something to do... Try the I'm a big girl strategy.. Like let's put on our big girl panties and remember to let mommy know when you need to use the big girl's potty... Some kids are harder like my son was cause I don't think it bothered him when he was wet...LOL My little brother used to bring my mom a diaper when he needed to be changed...LOL

My youngest just turned 2 and he is being a pain in the butt about training. He hates being wet or dirty and rips his diaper off every time he is. But when I try to get him to potty he just pees everywhere! xd He has been the hardest one I have trained so far. The others took right to it. confused

Have you tried using a progress chart for him... I was reading in the forums on Club Mom, This one mom made a chart that she hung on the wall above his potty chair and everytime he was successful he would get a sticker and when he had like so many in a row... she gave him a special treat.... you never know it might work... smile
Might work for the twins too...

Consistency is the key! once you pick the method you're going to try, stick it out for a solid 2 weeks before you try anything else. We pretty much do more of the potty training at school than the parents do. We use a combined method. We use a reward (m&m or jellybean), make a BIG DEAL when someone goes pee-pee in the potty for the first several times (BIG smiles hugs, jumping up and down, just let them know that you're excited and they did SOOOOO good!). Do you have them sit on the potty and try to go with every change? make it a fun ordeal. Tell them you want to hear the pee-pee. (most of the time, it really does help, say you want to hear it so that you can be so proud of you big girl, blah blah blah). While we don't allow it, some people have had success in letting the child take a "comfort toy" in with them. I find it kinda icky, lol...

My sister was potty-trained in all of 2 minutes. Mom bought a bag of m&m's (the regular check-out aisle size), and told her that if she could go pee-pee in the potty, she could have the WHOLE bag to herself! needless to say, the greedy little grub did it and got the whole bag. Personally, I changed my own diapers starting at about 18mo (for real... not all the time, but occasionally), until mom just put me in undies and told me I was going to use the potty from now on. I was pretty normal about it all (except I wanted NO ONE near me when it happened - and I still am like this, lol), until I heard this one book in Kindergarten. I have no idea what it was called, or the actual plot of the story, but there was the one line that goes, "HAVE TO GO PEEEEEEEE!!", and for several months hence, I thought it prudent to shout that every time I needed to.. yay! lol

lol, everyone I know (grownups) say "I have to go potty"... I even have the non-teachers saying this. To me the terms "bowel movement" and "BM" are worse than cursing. I prefer the happier words, lol... I pretty much scout where the bathrooms are in a building visually the moment I walk in. It's almost an instinct thing by now.. hehehe 3nodding

Oh, I can't wait for the rushing for a bathroom thing. When I mentioned potty training to my dad he told me this (slightly embarrassing) story about when I was potty training. I was out with my parents running errands and I told my dad I had to "go". He took me into the Dollar General store and ask if I could use the rest room. They said the rest room wasn't for customers, but for employees only. So I couldn't hold it anymore and peed on their floor, and my dad told them they would have to clean it up. rofl

LOL!

nice, teach them for being rude to a little kid... hehehe We have such trouble with some of the kids at school, knowing when it's serious, and when they just want to go play in the bathroom, lol.

I got this e-book about potty training on how to potty train in one day.

For the most part you get your kid to drink alot so that they need to go potty more often. Then they will be able to know what the feeling that they are feeling is a sign that they need to go potty and that it's ok to go in the potty.

If anyone wants more information then let me know and you're email and I can send it to you.

potty training was a nightmare. And I thought it would never happen, and it did. Guess you don't see to many 10 year lod in diapers. hehehe
There was so much pressure from daycares, friends and family to have it happen at a certain time.

Glad we lived though it
