Hi Prussiah,
First, congrats on winning
surprised ! I hope you do find some good use for those shoes. There's always eBay!
Believe it or not, I've actually won quite a few contests in my lifetime
eek . These are the only ones I can remember at the moment though.
$25.00 in cash for my senior high school year winter week button design contest. I also later won some Debbie snack cakes for winning button numbers because I had bought a lot of buttons for family and friends.
$100.00 in cash from a random drawing for my high school senior class sleepover.
$100.00 in cash at my Dad's electrical engineering conference, IEEE, by finding someone in the crowd that had my same registration number even though I was underage, but the company decided to give me the prize anyway because the odds of actually finding my match were too high.
A promo TV station pin from my local newspaper, The Star Tribune, for a small caption contest.
My name in the local newsletter of my university for several caption suggestions for this strange photo of an old guy in a small room holding some electronic box.
Original Lady Death art and the Lady Death prototype action figure all in a nice large safe from Chaos! Comics for an essay I wrote about the person I hated the most: my Step-Grandpa and his disgusting habits.
Several action figure toys from Bohbot Kids Network, the company that produced Extreme Ghostbusters, Princess Gwenevere and the Jewel Riders, Captain Simian and the Space Monkeys, etc..
2 quick sketches by Michael Janeze of The Norm when his comic was in syndication in newspapers.
A new age music CD from an wildlife gift store in the Mall of America in a random drawing.
A DuckTales lunchbox and plush of either Huey, Dewey, or Louie when the Disney Afternoon first started airing.
A sericel of Iron Man from Marvel Comics when they started airing the animated Fantastic 4 and Iron Man in the 90s.
A 2-page original comic book art spread from Deity by Karl Alstaetter for naming the Deity letters page.
A set of 3 limited edition Vampirella comic books for naming that comic book's letters page.
The cover art for Silver Cross by Ben Dunn of Antarctic Press for either an essay or naming that comic book's letter page.
A few drawings for random prizes at my local comic book convention, FallCon.
Previews' 1st Iron Otaku contest which so far has come in 3 shipments: Shipment 1, Shipment 2, and Shipment 3
The retail value of what I have won never amounted to over $1000.00
sweatdrop . The most expensive were the Lady Death safe with artwork and prototype figure and the Iron Otaku contest.
So far, the only complications I've had were for my button design, the
Lady Death comic, and my Iron Otaku prizes.
For the button design, whoever transferred my design to print goofed up on the coloring, so it looks like the silver fox I drew has a nose ring instead of a snout
stressed !
For the Lady Death prize though, I had to sign a contract with the now dead Chaos! Comics stating that I could NEVER sell my prize for profit. I can only bequeath the prize to someone else if they agree to the same contract I signed with Chaos! Comics. I can leave the prize in my will to someone IF they too would agree to the terms. Chaos! Comics also has the right to ask me to ship the prize to them for use in displays at comic book conventions, etc.. It was more like 'adopting' my prize.
Finally, as for the Iron Otaku contest, I have given most of my prizes away to friends because what they sent were either things I weren't interested in or manga that I already had
xp . My primary reason for entering that contest was for some autographed items in the grand prize, but someone over at
Previews goofed and couldn't get the signed items. Even now, the editor of
Previews, Marty Grosser, is trying to track down and compensate for the 'missing' prizes
sweatdrop . I'll probably have to e-mail him, again, about this in the fall. It's been almost 2 years now.
Sonia
sweatdrop P.S. I do follow one rule when entering contests though. I only enter contests in which I would actually like the prize. Contests with prizes I can't use or don't like I usually ignore
xp .
