Does anyone else have phantom wings? >_>
I used to, at one point. (For those who care for description, they were your standard issue, feathery and white. You know the sort.) But then I kind of... stopped having them. To be more specific... I lost something about myself that created them. Call it faith, hope, pride, or whatever you will, but ever since I lost it, I've shut off notice to them.
And I wouldn't have even thought of starting this topic if my shoulderblades hadn't started to get funny prickly feelings when I read a post by Aegis in another forum. <_< I'm not sure what this means (Gaia made me rediscover my spirituality... just sounds too pathetically corny to even be believed) but I figured I'd post about it anyway.
Any similar experiences out there? Feel free to describe your wings, and what they might symbolize to you, as well.

Oh, now you've got me curious! Which forum? 3nodding
I love Gaia. It's kinda my place to have a spiritual community, since I don't have a place in "real life" where there are others similar to me. So, it doesn't sound corny to me when you say it made you rediscover your spirituality.
Yes, I have phantom wings. And I SO know what you mean about prickies on the shoulderblades. But it's odd you'd get them if you have shut off notice to them...I wonder why? Whatever the forum/post was about, maybe it is relevant to your situation as well.
I usually ignore my phantom wings, except, of course, this post made me uber aware of them. I usually only pay attention to them when I'm very intune spiritually, or I'm in emotional pain. I'm not overly sure what they look like, I just know they're of a lighter color, and feathered. Probably "standard issue" as you put it (that made me smile).

XD I'm so sorry. I keep looking for the post that I read, and I can't find it now. ._. All I remember is thinking, 'Wow, that's really incongruous. I don't even identify much with this topic.' It was just really sudden and spontaneous.
Hm... my spiritual community isn't very large in real life, either. I mostly just have this one friend I tell everything like that to, and we haven't been talking a lot recently about that kind of stuff. So I guess Gaia is kind of a good supplement/replacement. ^^
See, with me... I used to be pretty much aware of my wings a lot, especially in school. Walking down the hall... I don't know if I can explain it, but something about walking the corridors made me get this feeling as though I just wanted to fly straight up through the ceiling, into the heavens, and never come back down again.
So part of the idea of phantom wings is tied, in my mind, to a kind of frustration at the physical world. The expression in it is so limited, and it makes things so easily distorted and misunderstood. And another part of that idea is virtue, selflessness, and compassion. I pretty much figured you had wings, for example, because I know you're an amazing person, even though I don't know much about you.
To be honest... I think that's why I felt them again when I saw your post. Lately, I've been tending to notice the negativity in people a lot. But to see someone who lives and speaks openly and with respect for the light of other people... that's a rare thing. Thus... the pricklies. XD Take it as a compliment. And I'm sorry if I embarrassed you. redface sweatdrop
XD I'm glad that you have been amused. Really, I read all these descriptions of other people's phantom wings - they're all colorful, or draconic, or they have more than one pair, and so on. It always made me feel sorta ...unoriginal! XD But it's not like any of us can help what they look like. That's just what they are. ... or, in my case, were. Whatever. You know what I mean. >.o

They might look more like bat wings, or bird wings, or dragon wings. It all just depends. Pride can be toxic, yes, but so can lots of other things. I have major faults dealing with self-esteem, and struggle greatly with depression and anxiety. And yet I still have the wings. 3nodding

It's fine if you can't find it or don't remember. Do you recall if it was in this guild or somewhere else entirely, though? I'm sorry, I'm just so curious. sweatdrop Oh...whenever I was in crowded halls when I was aware of my wings, it'd drive me NUTS, because it'd feel like others were brushing up against them. I guess it's like when people have their personal-space violated or something. Yes, you embarassed me. *laughs* I'm not the kind who can take compliments easy at all, but I am truly flattered. I took an immediate liking to you when I saw your profile, and that's part of why I contacted you in the first place. So it doesn't surprise me you have the wings, either. biggrin I guess...the reason I try to live as openly and authentic now is because of my past. For two years, I lived so secretly, hiding the fact that I was depressed, and cut myself, and even attempted suicide. When I finally told my mother and saw how much it hurt her...not of the things I did, but because she couldn't pick up on it happening, I decided not to live that way anymore. So dramatic, huh? *laughs* I don't want others to have to feel they have to hide things like that, and I want to help people. So, I figure if I'm open about it, then they might feel like they can be, too. I took it beyond the depression to include spiritual things, though I admit it can be hard to be open about that in real life situations. But you get the idea. whee What's wrong with simple wings? xd I know what you're talking about, though. Honestly...I'd think having six pairs of wings would be tough. One pair is annoying enough as is, sometimes! And bright colored wings...can you imagine how hard it'd be to find unique and varied outfits to match them? White goes with everything! xd

Wings of Aegis I have major faults dealing with self-esteem, and struggle greatly with depression and anxiety. And yet I still have the wings. 3nodding I deal with the same thing, but mainly for self-esteem. But I have wings as well, though I tell practically no oen about them. They just are sort of there. I don't always feel them, but if I concentrate, I can see them. Mine are sort of a gold or silver, I think. I'm pretty sure they're just white wings tinted silver, though. Medium sized, nothing spectacular, but I love 'em all the same~ 4laugh I'm accually trying to find out how I can turn feeling them on and off. Anyone have any idea how to do that? O_o

O_o I THINK mine might be slightly flecked with gold. Of course, that could have just been the lighting I saw them in. Mine are fairly small, I think. Oh! Okay, turning them on and off. I don't know how I finally figured it out, and it doesn't work 100% yet, but I just concentrate. I close my eyes and picture the wings coming out of my back and spreading and stretching to feel them. Sometimes, I arch my back as well. To get the feeling to turn off, I imagine them kinda disapearing back into my body, then kinda flex my shoulder blades close together for about thirty seconds to help take away the residual tingling. I hope that is at least vaguely helpful. sweatdrop

The closest I can relate to this was a feeling I got the other day that I talked to Aegis about.
The only way it can be described was as if I was an angel. (I'm not!) That I had forgotten my wings, and couldn't fly. ><
>< Sounds interesting though.

Quote: i have a strong issue w/ pride, lol, and was told that pride is like a poison.. Then don't think of it as pride. Think of it as something closer to self-confidence, or even self-worth. Pride is healthy in small amounts; it lets you know that you are of some value, that you can affect the world positively, that you are capable of being in control of your life. It's not arrogance or hubris until it gets out of hand. Anything in excess can be evil. Thus, what I meant to say was that one of the reasons I gave up my wings was because I was convinced that I wasn't worthy of them. Quote: Oh, don't worry about the post! It's fine if you can't find it or don't remember. Do you recall if it was in this guild or somewhere else entirely, though? I'm sorry, I'm just so curious. No, it was definitely in this guild. I just don't remember where. I'm sorry. ._.; Also... Thanks for sharing that. I know how you feel. I kind of had a similar rebirth experience when I was in eighth grade, after a yearlong period of intense depression. Also, I myself am kind of going through a bad time in my life right now... So... I guess what I want to say is, good luck. :3 I'm really glad you've managed to pull through and become stronger because of your experiences and your love for your mom. It's really inspiring to see that... especially given the negativity that the world can sometimes display. Maybe one day, I can find it in myself to act as you did. ^^ Quote: Bright colored wings...can you imagine how hard it'd be to find unique and varied outfits to match them? White goes with everything! True true. XDD
