Introductions


Child named: Kate
Gender: Female
Bio: Kate is a sweet, little girl with no parents. Short to the point, her parents were murdered along with a lot of other people. The fan fiction will describe that better though. She has grown up on the poorer side, and lives on the streets of Kanto...one of the most dangerous regions to live now; thanks to the shadow pokemon near by. She's always thinking of others before herself, and she's very shy. She's not afraid of pokemon unlike the others, and her heart will always remain pure. Despite all of whats happened to her, she still manages to pull off a friendly smile.


Umbreon named: *will develop a name later on*
Gender: Male
Bio: Umbreon is one of the only pokemon left that still has a heart for humans. He's very brave and caring, but very wary of stuff. The pokemon around him hate him for betraying their kind by having a human as a friend, yet he doesn't care what they think of him. He's got a heart full of steel, and he one day hopes to break the habit around Kanto with Kate as h is partner.

Chapter 2

In the Kanto region lives an eight - year old orphan. People know her as the "Garbage Picker". She goes around and picks at left over garbage when nobody is looking. Her proper name is Kate. Tons of people have seen her alone by now, but nobody had the heart to take her in. In this town, it's survival for yourself. People would pity her, and some would even spit at her while laughing. Nobody had come to a conclusion this girl had a heart, she was like everybody else...but alone in this world. She used to have a mother and father, but they were the victims of a terrible crime. Years ago, a robber bombed a well - known shopping mall. Her parents were in the mall when the bomb went off, and they were never found after that. Nobody knows if they ever made it, but everybody guesses they died with their bodies obliterated. Her parents were very well - known, they were pokemon researchers. She was six at the time with a baby sitter watching over her. The baby sitter left the girl sleeping alone in her room, and figured the parents were running late and would be home soon. Nobody would have guessed they died that night. Nobody knew their was a girl in that house. After the girl stood in her house for two days with no return of her parents, she figured they weren't coming back. She was very mature for her age, so she left the house and started her own life at six. All she knew was that she needed food and a warm place to sleep for the night.

Kate had wondered into an ally to sleep for the night as usual. She was hoping this alley would provide garbage cans or boxes, they were comfortable to sleep in compared to the hard ground. Except, what she didn't expect...this ally she had wandered into was taken by mostly all shadow pokemon. There was a herd of houndour and houndoom living together. Kate had entered their territory, and everybody knows that will bring trouble.

The houndour and houndoom quickly stand up from their resting spot and start to growl, everybody knows humans bring pokemon trouble in this part of town. The girl quickly backs up onto the wall and cries, she dare not scream. Screaming would cause panic in the rest of the neighborhood, she doesn't want to get the rest of the people afraid. Even though nobody cares about her, she cares about them. This is her problem, so she should deal with it alone. One of the houndour steps out of the pack, and goes in to make the first move. It leaps into action, and uses a tackle attack on the girl. The girl is thrown hard into the air, and smacks hard against the other side of the wall. As she falls to the ground, she twists her knee. She's a really skinny girl, she barely has any food to eat...and that 'causes her body to be very weak. The herd of pokemon turn around, and swarm the girl that had been thrown. They were going to go for the kill this time. They were hungry, and they hadn't had food for days. The girl looks for an escape, but there is no hope for her. They have her surrounded, nobody is out looking for her, and she's already injured.

When suddenly, from out of the blue, another pokemon comes to the aid of this human. It was a male umbreon. It wasn't very strong, but it had enough power to protect this human. This umbreon knew this girl, even though it never introduced itself to her. It had seen her struggle to survive, and it knew she had nobody to care for her. She was young and alone in a scary world. It would watch her closely lots of times, and see all the horrible stuff people used to throw at her. It wanted to attack the people that harmed her, but it was very afraid of them. It hated the thought of people harming its own species, it would wonder what drove a person to be that cruel to each other. World peace surely wasn't around the corner.

The gang of pokemon quickly left the girl to attack the umbreon, there was another intruder. The umbreon watched as the gang swarmed it. At just the right moment, it leaped into the air dodging the gang. It ran towards the girl, and grabbed her by using her mouth. There was no time to let her get on her back. With the others charging, it quickly leaped over the gang and ran. Some of the gang stood behind waiting for other intruders, while the other half left to chase them. Umbreon was very skilled in running, he had to run often from others. As it ran down main street with the girl, it looked back to see more and more of them heading back. When it looked back once more, it finally saw them all gone. They were free at last.

With the girl still hanging in his mouth, the umbreon continues on running. Finally, it comes to an underground base. The umbreon dropped the girl free, hoping she wouldn't run away. It stared at the girl as the girl stared right back. Kate was terrified, she didn't know whether to stay or go; so she waited to see what umbreon was going to do. As the umbreon starts to pick up the door, it grabs the girl by his mouth again and carries her down. It closes the hidden door behind him as it walks down the long stairs.

As Kate is being carried down, she looks curiously around the base. It was very well - designed, probable one of the best...and to be made from a pokemon, simple amazing. The walls were covered with wall paper it had found, and the floor was covered with beautiful grass. There were even flowers growing here, the only thing it needed was more light. It had lamps though, so it wasn't completely dark. She had no idea how the pokemon had gotten electricity in the cave though, it was amazing none - the - less.

Finally when the reached the bottom, umbreon released the girl. As it walked to the left, it gestured for her to follow. Toward the left was a big tunnel. The umbreon crawled in it followed by the girl, they both had no trouble getting through. Inside this hole was a kitchen - like food center. There were berries, food it got from market places, and lots of fruit. There was also a blanket on the ground to enjoy it on. Umbreon had tons of food found, and it had it very well kept so it wouldn't spoil. It was amazing to see that pokemon knew so much about life.

As it gestured her to the left again, there was another hole. As they crawled through the hole, this area looked like a play room. There were plushies, balls, rocking horses, blocks, and even an old power wheels car. It looked broken, but it was probable fun to sit in. This room was another amazing discovery, it was also very well kept.

As the umbreon gestures her back to where they originally were, it curls up into a ball and sleeps for the night. Kate looked at the pokemon sleep soundly, he was a very sweet pokemon. In this whole region, he is probable one of the few pokemon whose heart hasn't been turned to evil yet. Kate had nobody to care for her, so this was like a miracle to happen. This pokemon was actually paying attention to her, and it was actually interested in protecting her. Delightfully, Kate sleeps next to what seems her new best - friend. While sleeping, she was bewildered why this pokemon didn't hate humans. Oh well, she thought to herself. It's better not to ask questions. With that, Kate falls asleep very easily for the first time in her life.

Chapter 4

Umbreon leaped up from their breakfast area onto the stairs, and slightly opened the door that led outside from the base. Outside the base was a beautiful day, the sun was shining brightly on him as usual. It runs back down the stairs, and tries to tell Kate to stay here while it checks if the coast is clear. To let her know, it took its paw and tapped the ground five times in front of her. Kate looked at what he was doing, but was confused by his movements. Movements are harder to understand then words, especially for a 8 year old. Knowing she was still confused, there was nothing left he could do. He decides to just leave her in confusion, and quickly goes to check outside. As he crawls out, he slowly closes up the base for fear of intruders. Kate wondered what in the world he was doing, but she decides to stay in the base. Whatever it was, he was trying to tell her something; so the best thing to do would to be to wait until he returns. Hopefully, he'll return safely....unlike her parents who sadly were killed.

As umbreon walks into the world, he spots many things that could be a call for danger. But you can't just hide from everything, especially when evil was all around him. As it starts to walk to a park, it spots a pokemon gang living there. Luckily, they won't attack another pokemon. They do sense the scent of a human on umbreon, but they can't be certain if it was recent. Instead of attacking with uncertainty, they glare at the poor umbreon. Humans and Pokemon are not suppose to mix in this region. Deciding the coast was clear, it runs back to its secret base.

As it crawls down the base again, it gestures towards the girl to follow this time. Kate got up from where she was sitting, and looked at the pokemon climbing up again. Confused, she continues to wait like usual. When the umbreon reached the top of the stairs, it starts to look at Kate and make a sound that sorta sounds like a bark.

"Do you want me to follow?" asked the girl.

"Ummmm Ummmm" said the pokemon.

Kate couldn't understand what the pokemon was saying, but she could guess he wanted her to follow. As she crawls up the stairs, the Umbreon waits for her to crawl up. Slowly, she comes into the world as the pokemon closes up the base.

The umbreon starts to walk back towards the park, it was thinking Kate would probable have fun there. It's where most little girls like to play at. With Kate following right behind, they enter what seems - to - be a peaceful park. As the umbreon enters the park again, it sees the gang there still. This time, the gang stands up and stares at the girl. The umbreon senses the movement, and quickly guards the girl. With Kate confused by the sudden movements of the pokemon, she goes to swing on the swings. Umbreon walks to her aid and stays near by.

"Umbreon, jump on my lap! We can swing together!" says Kate.

Umbreon looks at Kate, he knows he would squish her the moment he sat. Plus, she can't swing by herself...she's too little to push off the ground. Instead of sitting next to her, he goes to push Kate on the swings. The swing starts to go higher and higher as Kate screams with delight. The umbreon was having as much fun as the girl was. Who knew pushing a swing could be so much fun?

This action perks the rest of the pokemon's attention in the park. They were not like others, that human had a pokemon. That pokemon had a disgusting trainer. They were actually enjoy each other's company. Finally, most of the pokemon there have had enough of their laughter. They were putting a crime in shame in pokemon and humans a like. A bunch of pidgy that were taken over by shadows start to come out, and attack the defenseless girl. As they circle over the girl, she falls out of the scream in fear and lands on her back. As the rest of the pokemon laugh at the frightened girl, umbreon jumps to her aid and protects her with his life.
It releases a confuse ray at the pidgy, which causes them to start attacking each other. Luckily, not one scratch as been put on the girl.

"I'll help!" she blurts out.
"I'm not going to let them hurt you, they're after me!" she cries out.
"And to all of you other pokemon laughing....GROW UP!" she screams.

With the pidgy still confused, Umbreon looks at the girl and smilies at her. Finally, a human who understands pokemon's feelings. With the other pokemon watching, it goes to make its final move. It leaps up at the pidgy and smacks them down with an iron tail. The only thing Kate could do was watch, she didn't have the heart to attack unless she was attacked first. Either that, or umbreon was about to get defeated...then she'd attack.

As the pidgy fly away in cower, the rest of the pokemon start to flick rocks at the two. Umbreon was with a human, he was a disgrace to pokemon. Since everybody was against them now, he had no choice but to return to the base. Umbreon quickly shoved the girl on its back, and ran away heading back to its base. Kate had looked like she had seen a ghost, her face was as white as the snow. As she holds onto umbreon's back for dear life, she cries out that she believes she's ruining umbreon's life.

When they finally make it back safely to the secret base, umbreon jumps in and locks the door from intruders. As he reaches the ground, he gently places Kate on it. Night had been approaching quickly, they would have to head back soon anyway's.

"I'm so sorry umbreon!" she cries out.
"If it wasn't for me....you'd be living a better life!"
"I can leave if you want. I've made it on my life alone, and I could do it again!"

Right after her last words, umbreon quickly shakes her head left and right; indicating a no. As Kate stared at him in fear, he jumps to her and licks her on the cheek slightly.

"Thank You" she whispers.

Suddenly, her belly starts to rumble out of no wheres. Umbreon has heard, so he gestures her to follow him towards the kitchen. When they arrive, Umbreon starts to get some fruit. Maybe later, he could treat her to some real food. Together, they begin to chow down together.

Chapter 6

Early in the morning, umbreon woke up to hear a pokemon scratching on the outside of the door. It was a faint noise, but it was still able to be heard. Kate also awakened from the weird noise. She looked up at the umbreon to find him near the ladder. Walking every step with caution, the umbreon creeps up the stairs and puts its ear on the door, trying to listen about what is going on outside. The pokemon scratching is still there. From the sounds of it, it's a little pokemon...but little ones can be just as deadly as large ones. Kate looked away to fall back asleep, she wasn't really worried about it...she was just tired. Suddenly, the umbreon hears two other pokemon running to help the other pokemon. Their base has been spotted! All three of them begin to tackle the door as hard as they can. With the three banging, the door will be busted open very soon. Without not much thought put into it, Umbreon slams the door open sending the others flying off of it.

Once the three pokemon crash onto the ground together after being thrown, they quickly look back up to find an umbreon glaring at them. But Umbreon wasn't what they were focused at fighting, it was the girl inside. They knew the girl was definitely inside, simple because the Umbreon was extremely angry while guarding the entrance to his home...not to mention the scent of a human girl on him.

"Move aside" said the leader, an arcanine.

"Go to hell!" replied the umbreon.

"If you don't move...you leave me one choice. Boys?" said the arcanine, as he turned around to look at his crew. Behind him were 2 growlithe and both looked fierce.

"They don't look tough!"

"We just want the girl...surely we can settle this somehow." said the arcanine.

"First, YOUR NOT GETTING THE GIRL! Second, you can settle this by leaving!"

"FINE. Boys, sick him!" said arcanine irritated.

As the growlithe began to charge at him with a tackle, umbreon stood his ground and let out a massive shadow ball. The growlithe were hit head on causing them to be flown into the air and hit the ground hard. As soon as they fell back down, umbreon had created a sand attack causing the visibility to lower greatly. Every time they tried to open their eyes, sand would get caught in it...they were like walking zombies. Arcanine had been seeing what was happening, but he had faith in his crew...so he remained still while watching. After the sandstorm had evaporated to what's no more, the growlithe spotted the umbreon. But right before they could do anything, umbreon had launched a toxic that hit directly. With the poison inside them, they could barely move when suddenly...they fainted. Umbreon had beaten two pokemon without even moving from his spot.

"Damn!" yelled the arcanine. Quickly, he grabbed the two and pulled them to the side.

"I guess I'll do it myself! Crew members are useless, I won't be as easy!"

Arcanine quickly charged at the umbreon giving him little to no time to notice the sudden movement, he had successfully launched a fire blast right at him. With umbreon paralyzed from the burns, arcanine launched him into the air with a tackle attack. As he landed, he heard the arcanine shout,

"Ha! Now you know what it feels like to be thrown in the air! Painful, huh?"

With arcanine being off guard because of his shouting, umbreon sprang right back into action and shot a direct hyper beam. The rays injured the arcanine, which only made him more angry. As he charged again, umbreon jumped into the air and launched a powerful shadow ball attack. Arcanine fell to the ground again, but he quickly tried to get back up...he had to win not only for himself, but the pokemon around him! He manages to stand up again, only to get shot back down with a poisonous toxic attack. That last attack made him faint, causing him to yet again...fall down, but this time he couldn't get up. Umbreon had won against three pokemon...he was pretty much unbeatable now.

Now...he had three injured pokemon next to his base, and he wasn't sure what to do. His only choices were to move his home, or to drag the pokemon somewhere else. But if he didn't move...they'd only find him again and try to take away the girl. There was also another choice, but it would be pure evil to do. He could take the bodies and throw them in the ocean... as they drowned they would never be found again...but, was umbreon ready to commit such a crime? To be made a... a nasty villain? As he looked back in the base of his home, Kate was sleeping soundly. The moment he laid his eyes at her, he had came to a conclusion...if he was to protect her from any danger, he would have to do whatever is necessary.

As he closed the lid back up, he grabbed the arcanine with his teeth and carried the two growlithe on his back. They were heavy, but he could manage it. After half an hour of walking, he finally came to a ocean. It was a lot prettier then anybody could imagined, the sea sparkled for miles and miles out. Next to the edge of it, umbreon slid the growlithe into it and then dropped the arcanine into it. As they sank down deeper and deeper, he let out a few tears. It was devastating to have to commit a crime like this...to sit and watch a pokemon dying...but Kate comes first. If they were aimed at killing Kate anyways, they deserved it, he thought. But deep inside him, he knew nobody deserved to die. When the pokemon were finally out of view, umbreon prayed for them and then quickly left knowing he can never return to this specific sea. If he did, the memories would haunt him forever.

When he arrived back at the base, he charged down the ladder to make sure Kate was safe. Kate was still sleeping soundly. After he knew she was safe, he forgot about everything else. She looked so peaceful, it was definitely worth it to him. She would be waking up soon though, she will be hungry.

As he walks to the kitchen to bring back some berries, he realizes he only has enough for two more servings. He will need to pick more later. He brings back all he has to the girl and sets them next to her. She's still sleeping though, and it's almost nine o'clock. He didn't want her to sleep the whole day, so he nudged her on the shoulders. Kate began to twist and turn while making moaning noises. To be asleep for so long...and make moaning noises...she must be having a nightmare, he thought. With not much thought, the umbreon jumped on the girl instantly making her to wake up.

"Ow!" cried the girl.

As she looked down, she saw a innocent looking face staring back into her eyes.

"Uh...hi! I'm sorry."

When she looked to the left of her, she saw a bunch of delicious looking berries.

"Oh, thanks! Here!"

Kate grabbed half of it and gave them to the umbreon. She knew he needs his strength as much as she does. Umbreon ate them with gratitude as the girl began to dig in her helping. As they each finished at a speedy pace, they both stared up at the shining sun above them.

Chapter 8

When Umbreon fell a sleep late in the night, he started to have nightmares for the first time in his life. He dreamed about killing innocent pokemon, and then being chased all around by their ghost forms. They were after him and Kate, and they would stop at nothing. Umbreon dreamed they got a hold of Kate, and then made him suffer by being a lone for the rest of his life. When he was a lone, he dreamed the ghosts would taunt him in ways he wouldn't even think were possible. The visions were so real to him that it made him toss and moan the whole night long.

When morning came, Kate was the first to wake up. Sleepy as usual, she pulled the covers off when she glanced over at Umbreon. He was still moaning and tossing. Frightened, Kate quickly shoved him to wake him up. As he laid his eyes open and left his dreary dream, he dazed at Kate and realized she was okay. Everything was going to be just fine. When suddenly, from out of the blue, a lamp was knocked over. There was no wind, no movement, no nothing. After feeling the presence of spirits last night, then a nightmare, and now items being knocked down; all he could come to was that the spirits were after him. He didn't mean to kill anybody, he was just protecting Kate like any protector would do. His heart was becoming frightened as he stood like a statue. Kate crawled over and hugged the umbreon as he dazed away in fear. The warm feeling he had felt made him come back to life. Kate's hug was warm and pure. After she had let go of him, he heard the refrigerator open and close while the lights from the lamp flickered on and off. "Umbreon, what's that noise? What's happening?" she asked. "I'm scared." This was definitely the work of something he believed were never real, but merely myths. In his mind, he started picturing many things; his dreams must of been a warning telling him to leave this place.

Right now, he was in the city of Pallet Town. Should he move, he began to question in his head. With Kate staring at him in fear and confusion, he pictured many cities to move to. Cinnabar Island...Fuschia City...Celadon City...Pewter City...Cerulean City...that was it! Cerulean City would be the perfect place for Kate! She would love it. But was Kate ready to move to another place? To leave her town she once grew up in? As he laid his eyes upon her, he thought it would be the only way to save her from the evil. Plus, it would be a pretty environment for her to grow up in over there. The water is crystal blue, and the lands of grass and flowers flow on and on. He would have no time to pack up anything, he has to get started on the adventure now or never.

He ran over to Kate, pushed her on top of his back as usual, and ran up to ditch the spooky home base. As he got out, he felt a cold feeling run right through his heart. He shook himself straight, and then dashed through the roads running mile after mile. Forest after forest, he finally ran into a city named Viridian City. The welcome sign he passed gave him the clue where he was. They were one city closer to their destination.

"Hey Umbreon," the girl said as she held onto him tightly. "Where are we going?" she questioned. With umbreon still close to the sign, he walked back over and touched the sign with his paw, trying to show her they were moving. As she looked at the sign, she replied, "So were moving?". Not a single tear rolled down her eyes, showing umbreon she didn't mind. Either that, or she was a tough girl about showing tears. Umbreon shook his head as he gestured a yes. The girl smiled sweetly back and didn't say another word, she must of been in a state - of - shock. With not much left and darkness approaching once again, he dashed to find a place to sleep for the night. Something comfortable, roomy, and yet hides them from the shadow pokemon. As he walked, he came across some tree tops. If he could manage to jump up there, they would have a place to sleep plus there was fruit growing on it to eat. He took his tail and wrapped it around the girl, making sure she was safely secured. Kate looked confused, but Umbreon continued to jump up branch by branch. On the third branch, he had almost slipped as Kate tilted backwards, but he managed to maintain his balance. From the third branch, he jumped up and up and up. When finally, he made it to the second last branch, where he was going to stay for the night.

Once Umbreon released the girl onto the branch safe and soundly, he ran to the top and grabbed two apples. By holding them with his tail, he jumped back down to the branch where Kate was. As he held them, he saw Kate look down in fear as she gripped the branches tightly. Kate must be afraid of heights, he thought. Steady, he walked over to the girl and nudged her softly with the apples still in his tail. When she turned around, she saw him and quickly flipped her frown upside down, trying to show him she was a brave girl. Umbreon took his tail and put it in the girls face, trying to tell her to take one. With caution, Kate obediently took one from his tail as he sprang it back and put the remaining apple in his paws. Together, they munched on the apples together as they stared up at the sky full of stars.

Once both of them were finished, Kate had tried to get into a resting position, but she failed. The width of the branch was too small, even for her weak body. With each try to sleep, she almost made herself more frightened. Plus at the fact, she could see the shadow pokemon appearing every so often. Darkened pidgy's were flying over the sky one by one, each tackling each other for food like their wasn't enough to be given out to everybody. Umbreon walked over to the girl slowly and turned his body into a ball, trying to show Kate to sleep in the middle of it while he slept. Kate had stared in confusion, but she made no movement or sound; she looked so frightened today. If she would of said something, she probable would of screamed in fear, but she knew better then that. Umbreon was sure she knew not to, otherwise the shadow pokemon would notice them and attack. Their scent was visible, but not much pokemon would guess they were hiding in a tree. Steadily, Umbreon nudged her to move a little forward. Once she had done so, he leaped in the back and turned his body into a ball with Kate in the middle. Umbreon was an expert at sleeping on branches. As he stayed still, Kate understood what he was saying and laid her body down slowly in the middle. "Thanks," she whispered as she fell asleep peacefully.
