Art is whatever you would like it to be. Much like what quote "Beauty is only in the eye of the beholder", art is what a person wishes or deems to make it art. A single line on a black sheet of paper could be considered art as long as there is one individual who recognize it as such. You see, it is a perspective just like much of everything in life that is ambigious. It holds no shape, form, or boundary thus to define art would be in a way a paradox. *shrugs* Or at least that's how I see it.

Art is in everything though, the very creation of this planet is a work of art from a greater force. Every building you stand in, ever pillow you've ever cuddled is a piece of art, something that someone took time to create, it took someone to think it up first, in this case though, these are functional works of art which most wouldn't think is art, but it is.

I think that there are two types of art: the type which can discribe an object and the type which discribes a skill. The first kind of art I see to be anything that is created for the sake of aesthetics or with the intent of carrying a deeper meaning. By aesthetics I mean anything that is made to be pleasing to the senses. I think that this type of art can have functionality, but not everything that is created for functionality can be cosidered artful by this measure, except for in the case of the second type of art which is judged more by the level of precision and detail that is put into it than simply by the senses. Unfortunately, in many cases this second form of art is only capable of being noticed by other artisans of the same skill. This, however, is just my brief opinion on the subject. I think that in order to exhaust every possibility until you are left with widely agreed upon guidelines for what art is you would have to fill the pages of volumes of books.

I think art is a human property.
Nature can make "art" that is more considerated as "beauty", but just the art made by humans is a concious making that consists in things, acts, behaviours... Could be beaufiul or ugly, material or ethereal, useful or not, but it's characterized by being esthetic, mystic, symbolic, creative, imaginative, etc..
It's a hard concept to define indeed.

When people say "art," they usually refer to visual arts such as avi art that we have here on Gaia. However, art can also be musical, literature, etc. I believe Kanon Vilente meant visual art when he made this forum.

___Fallen____Angel____ Art is everything. Technology Science Math Writing Music Drawing And its everywhere and anywhere. It can be beautiful, and it can be ugly. Wouldn't art be beautiful only to those who find it beautiful? And wouldn't it be ugly only to those who find it ugly? Ehhhh... Interesting.... But, everyone's basically explained what art is. To me, art is everything. Every creation is art. Every living thing is also art. But whose art is it? The art of a god, or art of nature? Or art of... evolution? But then, who created everything in the first place? Oh, well. Like I said, to me, everything is art. Even death is art.
