Born between 1989-2003? It's all Tom Verstraeten's fault, the b*****d! http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/story/_/id/7395411?rnd=1118937794114&has-player=true&version=6.0.12.872 So this is why the younger generation is so full of it. I always knew it wasn't possible for my stepmom to have such a stupid child without help, and I've found my answer! I like the part where it talks about trying to cover it up instead of eliminating the vaccine. I also like the part where it says FDA still uses the vaccine, causing 1.8 million autistics. However, I cant rant much, me being 1988. But, I'm still going to ask mommy dearest a few questions. Conclusion: Mercury = Autism I myself have Aspergers, which on the spectrum, isn't so bad. Just unlucky I guess! *whistles in air*

Conclusion: Mercury = Autism I'm '83 here, but different countries have different vaccinations and some might still be using the 'Thimerosal vaccines'. I'm going to ask around anyway, cause the dutch center for healthcare has admitted to have been using Thimerosal in their vaccines in the past, yet has stopped using it from year (undisclosed) onwards. So now to find that undisclosed year.. and figure out whether it has affected me in some way.. *adds another post-it to her wall*

I've been told that the vaccine was not used in Japan for x amount of time and there was no decline in the number of kids born with autism/aspergers.
I've also been told that it was a rumour started by a guy who sold alternate vaccines.

the point is valid but the link is eggagerated. i know othr moms whose children are autistic and they believe from this vaccine. but i still had my son vaccinated. i weighed the risks and decided the greater risk was in not getting the vaccine

My mom thinks that all vaccines are a bad idea. But she does not think that this one gives you autism. My brother the one with autism, did not get this vaccine. But he has very high amounts of mercury in him. My mom wouldn't even let me get the Hep B shot. sweatdrop

My brothers are autsistic, and therefore, we know a lot of other people with autistic kids etc., and there are a few people we know where their children were fine until they were vaccinated. Anyway, I know some people got together to make some big enquiry into it and the government paid them thousands of pounds to hush it up.

I don't know if the mercury link is true to autism - but my chiropractor I see firmly believes in it. His children are I believe 12 and 9, and he says they have never been vaccinated in their lives. I'm not sure if this is smart, or irresponsible. On one hand, they don't have whatever poisoning may be in the vaccines. On the other hand, they're really at risk for lots of diseases which can not only be fatal, but greatly impair them for the rest of their lives.
I think if and when I have children, I will more than likely still get them vaccinated. It seems to me that from everything people get vaccinated for these days, I would rather risk autism than have my child die from hepatitis, german measles... that kind of thing.

Since there's no link between autism and vaccines that has really been demonstrated, your chiropractor's being foolish.
Anyway, I know a kid whose mother alternates between blaming genetics and the horrific burns he sustained as a toddler for his autism. At about two years of age, he pulled over a cup of hot beverage his Alzheimer's-addled grandmother had left at the edge of a table. He sustained third-degree burns on his upper body, which became infected; after the fever subsided, he was autistic. Now his chest looks like someone took silly putty and kneaded it with their fingertips.
But, y'know, both the vaccines thing and the burns and fever thing rely on a post hoc, ergo propter hoc fallacy. It seems likely to me that it is mostly genetic. There was some research I stumbled across in Scientific American and the BBC, a few years ago, that said there were phenotypic indicators - people having more than one of them were more likely to be found autistic, in the study. Of course, that brings up the issue of biases and all that.

If I may add, I've been shot full of stuff so many times (including rabies), and I'm not autistic.

Have you heard the theory of PANDAS? NIMH PANDAS general info pagePANDAS is Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal Infections = children suspected of developing OCD or tic disorders after strep infections. I find this prospect to be just as frightening. gonk

Yeah, the actual scienific/medical body doesn't think very highly of this study. I asked a geneticist about it, and she said there was no link, although it was probably caused by some sort of enviornmental factor.
But still, if enough people believe this enough to stop vaccinating their kids...welcome back polio.
