Characters are pretty much the driving force and the most important ingredient in all online role playing, right? Just like in real life, people drive plots, and even a twist as impersonal as an earthquake means nothing until characters respond.
When we role play, we have to have characters. We could role play with characters without setting, but we couldn't role play the richest of settings without characters.
So, who are your role playing characters? What are they? At least, who are a few, even one, of your favorites? Do you have a favorite? How have your characters evolved since you first started role playing? How did you name your favorite? How realistic do you think he, she, or it is?
For the first discussion, you guys are welcome to ramble about your favorite character. Cx'

Yes, I have a favorite character. I'm not sure why, exactly, she's my favorite. I guess she's my favorite for the same reasons other people have favorite OCs--because I think she wears lots of pretty clothes is way cool, in ways that appeal to me.
Oh, my favorite character is named Lady Geta O-Sanure. Geta is the family name she got from the brothel where she grew up, Sanure is her actual name or at least the professional one she uses, and the "O" is an honorary title she earned.
How do you guys come up with names for your characters?

I'm horrible at coming up with names for my characters, to be quite frank with you. Well, there's one character that I recently made, named Evey--I named her after Eve in the Bible. Yay references! She was going to a school for the criminally inclined because a certain snake in the grass had lured her to, if you know what I mean. wink The rest of my characters have boring, normal, names. I've got an Alexander, a Caleb, etc.
And I can't think of my favorite character. gonk
Oh dear. I'm not bringing very much to this discussion at all. xd

Don't worry, I'm not exactly mistress of conversation, either.
Neh, that's better than what I do--I just come up with stuff that sounds vaguely acceptable and okay. Cx I just make names up, most of the time, but other times I use pre-existing names. Like for my specific Medieval-Fantasyish setting, the names have to sound a certain way because they all come from the same language.
Bible isn't a bad place to look for names--a lot of them are really uncommon when you get past "Katherine" and "Mary." Like, Evey, for instance, is a really good name. Also it's a Pokemon, right? Don't ask me how I know that...Also, I'd just look for random, unusual names if I was coming up with a Harry Potter character, which I'm not, because I haven't role played at all in months, let alone a Hogwarts role play.

My main roleplay character is Jackie Pappilion, who is my hogwarts rp character. my middle name is Jackson, so Jackie, and butterflies are pretty, and Pappilion is the french word for butterfly.
In non-hogwarts RP, I'm Amethyst Serene.

My fave character well...uhh...I usually change characters depending on the rp I'm in @_@. Sometimes I even play as a boy xd . Anyway...I think my favorite would be Aiko, she's sweet and kind but she isn't so strong and she's pretty clumnsy >.> and another character that I luff is Hikari! XD I love her knowing that she's in love with singing as well as playing the guitar and the fact that she's so cute! X3 I luff all the characters I make but these two are my major fave! XD

Oh, I have plenty of male characters. No boys--just men. All but two of my characters are over twenty-four. I'm sick of being young--why role play someone bound by the same constraints of youth?
How do you come up with your character names, Yuki?
Those are cute names, MissDemeter! Yeah, I had a Hogwarts role playing character named Isora.
Meh, all this talk makes me want to role play! It's been months. : D

Man, I've had characters of all ages. Usually from about, say...11 - 29. xd Strangely enough, most of my characters are males, despite my complete and utter lack of understanding them. Then again, I find it hard understanding girls as well, and I am one. >__>;; Who says men are easier to figure out than women?
At the moment, I have two favoured RP characters. One is Alexander, an Oytebin, who is half Wolf and half Dog, to his complete resentment. He's tall in a way that looks apologetic for taking up so much space, with messy black hair and blue eyes. He'd want to be a full wolf if he could. He's not weak, but not strong, smart, but not a genius, fast, but not to the point of extremity and has no partiuclar talents. He's a boy who's frustrated with his own mediocrity.
And my other RP character that I've been fiddling a lot with lately is Dranielle, a Triggian, which is a nomadic race. She has bright blonde hair kept up in her lucky handkerchief, is extremely tall, and is all sharp edges and harsh curves, with no semblance of a female figure. She has gone through a failed pregnancy, and her, well...Partner, I suppose, seeing as they don't exactly marry, died in a hunt, which isn't such a rare occurence. She's logical and cool headed, talented with a bow and arrow and absolutely formidable on horseback and...Well, isn't a very nice person. xd

I think my 'favorite' is Jewel, just because she's my very first character. She's...pretty much a loner, really. She's a magic-wielder, and apart of a race I made up but as of yet haven't named.
My other favorite is Probably Lotus, just because she's so fun to play, and is probably one of my more developed characters, at least personality wise. She can't stand being in a stable relationship, and tends to use people, then leave before she gets the chance to risk getting hurt.

That's neat, Jewel! I know, I always have an affinity for my very first character, named Snaeren.
Not as cool as your character, though. Cx Snaeren was some kind of lame, half-elf, terminally cranky assassin with somewhat dirty hair and a cross-shaped scar over her eye yeslikeRurouniKenshin. She went through this transition to very short, plump assassin Saerth to model-like geisha-type-thing. Basically now she's three characters, and they're updated so I like to think they're all well-developed and less lame. Snaeren took a back seat to my favorite character, the geisha-like creature, but she's still cranky.
Lotus is a good name for that type of character, I think. I don't know--because you said she uses people and avoids commitment and emotional intimacy, the whole character clashes with her lovely name so perfectly and in a good way. Lol, just my opinion, of course. Cx

Heehee. That's an odd name. Other names in there aren't exactly normal, at least to my standards anyways. I've figured out my favorite character, actually. His name is Stanley, and I've had him for years and years. My first RP character--While not knowing what RP's were. I've had him since around...Second grade, when my friend and I made up stories together and simply called it, "Storying". (Yeshehasnolastname. >_>)
He's not a very cool character, I admit...But hey, grade two! He's a lanky, shaggy haired seventeen year old with an untamable mop of brown-red hair and bright hazel eyes. He is surrounded by other characters, of fairies, of watercreatures, of makolis, of amazing, brilliant, undescribably cool people. Stanley is very un-cool. Mediocre and human - not to mention that the guardian that everyone recieves as a child never showed up for him - he can't seem to do much by himself. Unfortunately, it's always - ALWAYS - up to him to save the world from some plight, which more often than not, he caused. He's not a very good sword fighter, and Zyko, a progidal 8 year old Makoli is probably better than him at fighting. (Granted, Zyko's a TOTAL Mary-Sue. >_>) He also has 2 love interests - who turn out to be the same person - but cannot do anything around them besides trip. (Did I mention that he has really big feet?) Despite all that, he's a very nice person, wishes nothing but good to other people and wishes fervently that he could be like the others. And if not be like the others, he wishes for something that had been missing in his life since the moment of his birth--Normalcy.
xd That was way too long.

I never thought of her name like that before. ^^;; I mostly named her that, because her little sister's name is Lycoris, and her daughter's name is Lilly. They're all flowers. But I love her character, likely because she's so utterly imperfect.
