Earlier this week I found out that my brother-in-law, a good friend of mine, got badly injured in Iraq. He was riding in a humvee with five other guys, and they hit a roadside bomb. Out of the five guys, he and the driver were the two survivors. He's been transported to the States, and is doing much better now.

I'm just curious, does anyone else have any family members/friends who are currently serving our country?

Well, I live in Canada, so no.
I don't want to be involved in it. America's war, not ours.

Your poor brother, I hope he gets better.

My brother is leaving later this year for Iraq. I hope he'll be ok.

I hope your brother-in-law gets better.

It's not even America's war. It's just a pointless war.

It's not even our war. It's Bush's war. I understood when we went into Afghanistan but personally, I find Iraq pointless.

But I do congratulate those serving for us. They deserve a lot of credit.
I hope your brother-in-law does a lot better.

Same here. Best wishes for your brother.

I come from a pretty Republican area, and even the diehard kids are pretty much aware of how meaningless the whole debacle is. We went in for all the wrong reasons, and now we're going to have to live with it. *sigh*

Thanks everyone! It really means alot, and he's doing a whole lot better now ^_^

As for where I stand about the war, I don't know so much. I support the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force etc. whole-heartedly, and I suppose as long as they're fighting for what they believe in, I'll stand behind 'em. Whether or not the war is pointless, I couldn't say. . . .

I know this is a pretty late response. sweatdrop I do have several family members who are in the military. I have two boy cousins who have fought overseas (both are officers in the Army). Then, I know a few people who have also fought. It can be tough to have family members overseas, but I totally support them.

Is it possible to not support a war, yet support the people fighting the war? It's a conflict. Supporting someone's choice to join a government organization that is designed to train those to fight a war, is in a way, supporting the idea of war. I feel for all the soldiers and families who are involved in any way. Especially when so many are realizing they gave their time to something that was obviously for the monetary good of the government, not protecting the people. To discover that your intention to serve the country was betrayed....that is cold. I hope your family members are safe and recover well..but this war (and war in my opinion) is responsible for nothing good at all. Coexist!

That's a very interesting thing to bring up and I've been in a similar situation as you.

The way I see it: supporting the troops means that one supports the willingness to these people to sacrifice their lives for ours. Supporting the war means you support the reasons why the U.S. went in their and believe it's a worthwhile cause. I think these two are completely different things, and while one can support the troops they do not need to support the war or those who sent the troops into the war. I support soldiers who signed up wanting to protect our country, but I do not support this war.

I agree with you. I do not support this war. I do not think we should've gone over there, but we are there, and by the looks of it, we're not coming out of there for a while. I support our troops and appreciate their sacrifice. My brother is one of them, fighting for our country. Even if you don't believe in the war, even if you aren't American, there is no greater honor than to fight for one's country. You may agree or disagree with it, but I am proud that my brother is willing to fight for us. And no matter how much I wish this whole thing could be over, I support him and all the other soldiers.

Not currently, or, at least not that I'm aware of, maybe some VERY distant cousin or something like that.

However, earlier this year my brother was accepted by The Citadel (War College, specifically the Marines, out in the Carolina's) for college, and at the rate that the genius who got us into this war (that was sarcasm ;D) he'll be over in Iraq when he graduates...

Hope your brother-in-law gets better. I hope moreso that we pull out of the war.

My brother went to the Citadel! He's not a marine though. So long as there's no draft and your brother didn't sign up for the army for any commitment (like they'd pay for college if he signed up), he should be fine.

My friend's father was killed last year over in Iraq due to a roadside bomb. He was in his early forties and left behind four kids. The real heart clincher? He CHOSE to go. He wasn't sent.

WOW. you people are so right. And I wonder, is the war even worth it? It seems like an ironic matter, too. Correct me if I'm wrong but if I believe Bush is anti-abortion. But isn't sending people to war the same? Is turning over a life for a war against grudges right?

Oh dear. I hope everything works out well. I'll be praying for your brother-in-law, so. God bless and etc.
