New series?! 
http://anime.miao.us/archives/2007/05/16/1067/anime.miao Apparently Sunrise is planning on animating the light novels that are the “real” sequel to Mai Hime. From what I have heard through word-of-mouth (take with a grain of salt), is that the anime should come in 2008. Mai Hime Destiny kinda picks up after Mai Hime, only the characters are weird amalgamations of their Hime and Otome counterparts. Anty is well and good, but Mai gets run over by a train or something (kidding, she is “dead” though). The new main character is Mayo, who pushes the “wait, that’s a 14 year old?” stereotype. Egads. I’m not sure what to think… on one hand, I’m giddy and saddened by how Sunrise is ******** the dead corpses of their beloved Gundam and Mai Hime franchises, yet I’m delighted and horrified at more stories from the Mai Hime world. In any case, I’m going to find myself a good seat to witness yet another Sunrise-fueled trainwreck. A person of vigor and justice who has a rival feeling towards Shizuru. By the way, her butt with her head is so painfull. Kikukawa Yukino: "Hoshinomiya Fuuka Gakuen Student Council Treasurer". She gives a clever and cool impression. A tender Meganekko of heart. She remonstrates Haruka, a straightforward person, every day. Those girls are annoying enough, stop adding more fuel to that god damn purple fire. mad You can't take side characters and make them main characters, because then part of their appeal is gone. No one likes main characters, c'mon.

The only reason I'm going to even bother with "Destiny" is because Tomoe's supposed to be in it. She was already totally shat on in "Zwei", but I guess maybe I'm hoping they'll make her a serious character in "Destiny." (Although from what's been scantilated so far, Destiny already looks like utter crap.)

From the stuff I've heard about "Destiny", it was a fan-made novel sequel to HiME.
It looks like Sunrise is doing what they did to Gundam. Took something fan-made and made it offical. In Gundam's case, they took a fan made manga series (very short, I own it lmao) and made it official. Looks like Sunrise is making this "Destiny" into an anime/OVA.
I'd say I'm disapointed, as strange and interesting as Samurai Shizuru is, it sort of wrecks all the loose ends that fans have tied up for themselves and talked about. It's taking one person's (or a collective group of people's) fan-based views and publishing it into an official story for the sake of what...? profit? What about the original writers and directors and their views?
To be honest, though they are calling it the "real" sequel, it's a deviant from the original. Looking at the scans, the guns already seem off. Unless this has something to do with the resurection of the First District/Mr.Smith, etc, and this sequel sheds more light on that organization? But then I see things like samurai/ninja Fujino and wonder what the ******** is going on.
In a fan based thing, thats one thing, because you have the creativity to bastardize things any way you want. But to turn that official? It's a problem.
Though fans wish for more HiME/Otome s**t, I cant help but feel like this is going to anger people. I'm already upset, but at the same time, I want to watch this and see what it's all about. Still, I'm conflicted, because I can't help but feel like I'm going to be disheartened. Ultimatley, I dont want to kill the dream lol.

actually, I believe a part of the plot is that shizuru now has control and/or lineage from a Japanese street gang? she's supposedly not from Kyoto now, either (however, that could have been hearsay.). I'm not sure what that would do in consideration to the anime whenever that would be made, but it really won't be the same at all without that accent of hers.
and yeah, unfortunately, I would rather go and have a fantasy about what could have happened or could have been than be disappointed from poorly thought out overkill. regardless, I'll make an effort to follow this to a point. It's a shame the main char is fugly, though. She has about as much appeal as shiho. So why is shizuru macking on her?!

At this point, I wouldn't even be surprised if it transformed into some sort of Yakuza gang rival anime. I bet underneath those Kimono sleeves, Shizuru has some heavy-duty tattoos.
The main character pisses me off. Mary-Sue to the max. Psychic Powers? Oh ******** christ.

This is true though: MAYO has psychic powers, is trapped in these magical cuffs for some mary-sue mystery reason (probably if she's broken free, she will unleash great power across the land/something equally mary-sue) and her chest size is 99, and her waist is like... 30-something?
This is hopefully NOT true: Shizuru is just as bad mary-sue wise, being a samurai-ninja Yakuza Ultimate boss of badassery that makes no sense at all.

They all probably are, unfortunately. But then again Natsuki hasn't shown up yet. Perhaps her storyline will be more promising? I hear she's an enemy of Shizuru. Maybe because of that gang war... -_- but least Mai isn't around - and if she's not there I can only cross my fingers and hope that Tate and Takumi won't be either.
Mayo's proportions are gonk . With a waist that small her torso should snap beneath the weight of her monster tits. Did you see her girlfriend?! It's a stylized CHIE. Seriously, I can't tell Chie and Mayo's girlfriend apart. But they're supposed to be two separate people?
