Who: AearHwesta & Seer What: to see how he reacts to her being all grown up. Where: on the deck of the Hiril Anorfalf, Aear's kitsu-rigged ship When: now. midday. today. Father's Day. ('cause it's so fitting to make the 'father' sweat on such a day. *winks*) Why: *grins* do I really need to answer that?
It was a beautiful day. The sky was his favorite shade of blue -like the color of his fur- and dotted with fluffy strips of misty clouds that broke up the monotony just enough to make it a gorgeous sight to behold that would never tire to see as the clouds constantly shifted. There was a good breeze and though he had already taken his Hiril Anorfalf out this morning he was ready to do so again.
After he set something aright with her prow. Which was why she was docked once again at the port.
He did not sing today as he worked. Instead a thoughtful expression had overtaken the usually carefree sailor's face. Enough that even on his ship his thoughts were pulled away from her, to her.
He sighed. Well, AearHwesta-lad... ye can't keep her young ferever mate. Another sigh as he finished his work with little jubilation for the good job, only nodding acceptance that he had done well. S'pose I should be thinkin' 'bout how te keep the lads back from her... She's been growing so much lately... gonna be a lady any day now...
Where normally the thought of a female reaching full growth would have been like a starting flag for the ladies' kitsu, Aear found himself for the first time wishing to forestall the inevitable.

Unfortunately the inevitable always happened... and right now it was landing on the dock just to the side of the Hiril. With a last few flaps of multicolored feathers bearing some incomprehensible insignia Seer lighted on the wooden planking and almost at the same time started running to leap over the gap between pier and deck. Gangplank? What gangplank?
The young-adult female practically pranced with glee over to Aear's side and hopped up to throw her forepaws over his back. "Aear! Lookit me! I'm almost as big as you! I even flew over here all by myself today!"
Not that she hadn't wanted Valefor to come along... but the Aeon had been acting a bit strangely lately and Seer had a feeling it had to do with her and Aear but she couldn't put her paw on why... and she didn't have the heart to ask her psuedo-mother what was wrong because she also had a feeling there wasn't really anything she could do.

He caught her scent before he could see or even hear her. By it ... he knew that she was full grown. Call it a gift he had. "All by yerself, Seer-Lass?"
He turned smiling russet eyes to her and only through a lifetime of practice did he keep his first reaction to himself. She was lovely. Smaller still than him, aye, but in a good way. It was a bit awkward to see all ov her with her paws overhis back like that but with what he could see and the weight of her...
AearHwesta knew he was in trouble. And he had been worried about other males. She's been like a daughter te ye mate! Like Rem-lad's girls she's off limits!
But she had such energy... and an angelic... and she loved his ship... The sailor shook his thoughts away. "Yer full grown & lovely, Lass. Ye make me proud as anything."

Seer's tails wagged merrily. The compliment meant a lot to her. She knew Aear meant it, even if she didn't really have any inkling about his ladies' kitsu side. She'd never seen him around anyone but "family". "Thank you!"
She hopped back down to all fours and prowled over to where Aear had been working to see what was going on, all blithe grace and unconscious beauty. "And yeah, all by myself. Valefor wasn't feeling well, I guess, she said she didn't feel up to going out but I shouldn't let her stop me." She peeked back up from Aear's handiwork. "Looks good! Is that why you're not out sailing?"

Great sea gods, but she's a delight te see... Long an appreciator of the female form Aear could not help but smile as she moved to check his work & he got his first good look at her. It was hard to look away after but he did. Concern for the aeon clear on his face. "She's nay well? Lass, ye should o' told me sooner. Ye know I'd come fer either o' ye."
He grinned at her question though still concerned. "Aye... that'd be the whole of it. Was out this morning but brought her in to fix that before it went bad. Just proper maintaning, Lass. Like I taught ye."
The sailor had to look away from her again then, gaze going out across the sea at the sky there. "Could go out again if ye like." Are ye daft mate?

Seer clapped her forepaws together. "When do I ever turn down a sailing trip, Aear?" She trotted over and butted him affectionately. "We can make it a short one, if you want to go see Valefor." With a gleeful little hop in her step she went to her "usual" position to help get the boat ready to go out again.

"Ne'er yet." He agreed with a grin, padding his own way to go through his usual procedures. And hopefully ne'er ever... even when ye find a lad that strikes yer fancy, Seer-lass. "Only a short one though. Then I'll escort ye home & have a look in on Valefor." He had grown to love their sailing trips as Seer had grown -just the three of them. This would be the first one without Valefor and he felt a pang of regret for that, missing the aeon. He also felt an intense anxiousness tinged with excitement and delight and his usual love of new experiences. Just keep a hold o' yerself, mate. Remember she's yer daughter.
Woah to the lad who might try to court her and find her 'father' interposed between them. He would be more overprotective knowing himself as it was, but even more for the feelings stirring within him that he would not permit himself to harbor to thought long. "All right, Seer-lass! Let's hoist that anchor & steer for open waters!"

She made sure the ropes were off the docking ties and hoisted the anchor as instructed, helping Aear to keep an eye out for neighboring ships until they were clear of the port. Once clear and they could relax a little she unfurled her wings partway to enjoy the stiff breeze, head-fur whipping arond her face. She kept an eye on her duties, of course, but they were out sailing for fun, so she intended to have some!
A small seabird fluttered down, racing their boat for a moment and crying its small shrill cry. Seer imitated the sound, only with more volume, and the bird startledly wheeled away and back toward shore. Seer giggled at that and went back to enjoying the sea air.

Before Valefor & then Seer came into his life the nautical angel would not have dreamed sailing with anyone to be such a pleasure and a gift. It was always his time. His time with his beloved Hiril Anorfalf who held his heart more than any fleshed female.
Or did. It was easier, when they loved his ship nearly as much as he to feel more of a pull to them as well. Until today, AearHwesta had not minded.
Great Neptune, her innocence! Keep her away from lads like me! His thoughts wailed silently while wanting to go near her. Aear laughed at her 'way with birds and spun the helm further out to sea. "tis always a joy te see ye enjoy yerself, Seer-lass." And may ye never have thoughts o' enjoying pleasures with a lad. Ye may be grown but... ah!
"Shall we see to find some dolphins fer ye to play with, Lass?"

Seer whistled a happy sounding little birdcall she'd picked up somewhere to signal her agreement with that plan of action, and if that had left any doubt her last check on everything before bounding up to the forward part of the stern and throwing her paws over the rail to keep a lookout for the dolphins certainly cleared it up.
She'd never actually gotten in the water with the dolphins, but she liked to watch them, and this time she was thinking about flying out to meet them and see if any of her whistles got a return from them. She couldn't quite imitate dolphin-lingo the way she seemed to be able to do with birds.

Laughing he turned the helm to steer the Hiril Anorfalf towards waters that usually were visited by the sea mammals this time of day, correctly following his adoptive daughter's unspoken assent.

Seer spotted the dolphins and with a look back at Aear that almost asked if it was all right she leapt over the rail and snapped open her wings when they got close enough.
The dolphins seemed to think it was grand fun jumping up out of the water beside the strange colorful "bird" to get a better look at it, and they chuckled as only dolphins can at her attempts to whistle at them.
Eventually though she came back to the ship, double checked to make sure all was still as it should be, and waves up at Aear. "Should we be heading back, then?" She wasn't really sure why now seemed the time to go... maybe her sixth sense was twinging at her? Hmm.

Upon finding the school of dolphins -not far from where he had hoped they would be- Aear hoisted the sails and allowed the Hiril Anorfalf to drift upon the waves alone. Keeping a seasoned eye on the way his ship moved he padded to the railing and propped his front half over it resting his head upon his paws over the side as he watched Seer cavort with the dolphins. Another day, he might have given in to the temptation to join her. But the experienced kitsu knew better than that. Or he hoped he did.
So he simply watched, a pleased smile on his face & his russet eyes going slightly glassy. A few times AearHwesta laughed heartily, or called playful encouragements to the dolphins that they could do better to 'catch the lovely lass' and other such interjections.
When his feelings became too much he padded quietly away, glancing back to see the play more often than not. He beamed with pride when his sometime ward checked the ship first then acknowledged him. Though something in him ached softly. He nodded with a wide grin at her query. "Aye lass. That we should. See what ails Valefor-luv. Take position and help me unfurl the sails, Lass. Then we'll be heading back."
He continued to offer gentle orders of what needed to be done more to hear his own voice over beating heart & worry than because he though Seer needed to be told. That much could be heard in the tone of his voice, for one with the right perception who knew him well enough.

Seer followed the orders given with a practiced paw and little more thought for the odd note in Aear's voice than he was concerned about Valefor. Why should she think it was anything else? She might be adult now but she hadn't really been introduced to the realms of thought Aear was struggling to keep out of.
With the boat safely moored Seer hopped onto the pier, once again foregoing the gangplank, and fluffed herself up before shaking to make sure everything was in some sort of order after whisking about in the breeze all day. "You want to lead or should I?"

After double checking the Hiril Anorhalf out of habit AearHwesta spread his own wings and followed the young adult over the small patch of open water onto the pier of the port. He paused only a moment to debate his answer, which eh gave with a sigh though he smiled. "I'll follow ye. I'd like te see how ye fly it, Seer-lass."
Perhps not his wisest choice, considering his feelings, but the other option might have been suspect as Aear always had time to watch Seer's achievements & advancements. Ye can do this, AearHwesta. Buck up Lad.
