Harened by his years of training, the brindled soldier no longer knew what it meant to simply enjoy the warmth of the sun. He moved along the perimeter of his herd lands like a good soldier, doing his job for the good of his royalty. At the thought of that, he smirked a little. Yes, the good of his royalty. Though he was a loyal subject of the twisted family that led the herd, he hardly liked them. The Queen, though nice in her own sort of way, he found to not have enough backbone. That heiress was hardly worthy of the throne, and the Patriarch annoyed him to no end. If only they had a stronger head of military... Then tehre was Ka, the angsty lad who seemed to only want to fight. Despite his views on the group, he had sworn to protect them and the citizens of the herd when he became a soldier, and so he did, making his rounds.

Things would be far more interesting with a slave and a mare around, he mused as he walked. Next time a new batch of slaves came around, he'd have to go take a look at them and find one that suited him. It'd be nice to have something to wait on him and follow him around on his daily doings. Perhaps a small Aeri, though they usually came quite large... Or maybe a non-tear Jala? Who knew what he'd find? Either way, he'd have to go to the next slave selling. After all that thought, he came to a stop to graze a little at the sparce grass. It wasn't like the head of the military was comming around any time soon; he could afford a break.

Flicking an idle tail as his hooves made light work of the red sand below them, Ka managed to swing his head upwards. Now squinting at the oncoming sunlight, the stallion found his dark eyes traveling across the sky like no one's business. Nowadays he had nothing to do but his own work and pleasure, nothing but persuade the soldiers willing enough into a quick bout of flying hooves and teeth. No such luck this morning though. Returning his cold gaze back to the her territories around him, Ka changed his pace to a more lax one. No need to be in a rush when you have no where to go.

Lately he had been rather perturbed by his last meeting with his sister, and since then his body had gotten over the stiffness of his suicidal landing. Still, she confused him with every chance she got, and he was sure, absolutely sure, it was done on purpose. To act like she did, and then show some sign of sisterly affection, it sent his mind into further chaos. In an instant the stallion's ears were pinned to the sides of his skull in a foul dispostion at the issue. It was while he walked that Ka took notice of yet another figure off in the near-by distance, which furthered the extent of his ponderings. What should be done. What should he do to regain his place at a head positon? Not necisarily the crown persay, but he quarrel was also directed towards his father, the head of the military. How to pull that off? It was a twisted thought, though he couldn't keep a sort of equine smirk from gracing his muzzle.

As if the other was able to read his thoughts, Ka skirted to a simple halt to stare off in the direction; careful to wipe the grin from his features. From here, he couldn't quite tell just who that was.

Trained ears and nose picked up the sounds and scents of none other than dear Prince Ka. Tane snorted into the grass, fighting the urge to roll his eyes, and lifted his neck to get a better view. A'yup, that'd be the prince alright. That's swell, he mused. The offpsring of his boss had found him slacking on his patrol. It mattered little, though. It was well known through out the ranks that Ka was after his father's position, and that he often only looked for soldiers to spare with. With a light sigh, the reddish brown stallion folded his wings comfortably, flicked a lock of curly mane out of his eyes and started to make his way over to the prince, his head held at a respectable, yet slightly arrogant level.

As he slowly hoofed across the grass, he took the time to look over the young buckskin. Shame he was a prince; he'd make a relatively good soldier. It was something Tane didn't say often, as he usually looked at other stallions with a great amount of disdain, finding most of the herd's current stock to be unsuited for a fight. Ka, on the other hand, had the attitude for war, and certainly had the pent up anger. If only he could harness it... He'd be quite the opponent in a battle. Tane went so far as to think he might even have a bit of pride in serving under such a stallion. Idle thoughts were for when one was alone, however, and he let them run away to the the deepest corners of his mind. "Morning, sire. Having a pleasurable stroll?" His voice was as sweet as honey when dealing with royals, and this was no time to drop the habit.

Perking his ears slightly as the other seemed to notice him, Ka once more had to digest his thoughts until another time, for seemed he would have company very shortly. Most of the herd though, he could hardly stand to be around, and the royals were all out of the question; save for his mother. His morbid gaze stuck on the stallion that approached him, as it seemed he had walked in on a soldier's pratrol of the area. One that was eating on the job, that is, but Ka hardly cared about something like that. Let Mavsu take care of it if he found out. Leave the problem to dear heiress Yi for when she comes into power. Perhaps even, he mused, if she found out before hand she'd make a mess of it. It was a tempting thought, but it would only be the soldier's fault if he got caught by her. Either way, Ka wasn't about to deal with it.

About as pleasurable as having your head split open on a jagged rock. "Mornin'. Seems that way", he managed to respond, his voice relatively moderate. After all he hated asserting most chain of command when he spoke with soldiers. Heck, he felt most a kin to them then he did the royals. Though he supposed that mostly due to the fact that they, or most he've met, shared the same fighting spirit he had. For Ka never had try very hard to get one into a brawl with him and for his own pastime pleasure.

Tane found the younger stallion amusing at best, though he wasn't too keen to show it. He had to test the waters, first. After all, the lad was a royal, and any royal had a certain mind set that was just... off. It was almost funny to think about, really. They lead the herd and at least acted as if they cared, yet they weren't like the rest of the Jala. Although this one, he had heard from his fellow soldiers, was more like the ranks than he was like a prince. He wondered breifly if the lad would grow to take his father's place in the herd, as his sister would grow to take their mother's. He almost chuckled at those thoughts; it seemed that privaleged young had much more of a choice in their life ambition than he did. Born a natural fighter, it had been obvious what he would be when he matured.

"Glad to hear it." He nodded politely, flicking his curly mane out of his eyes once more. The darn locks seemed to always be getting in the way. He had been told by several older mares in that motherly sort of way that they made him look a sort of handsome that will melt a lover's heart some day, though he hardly had time for that sort of thing. What with his training and then his patrols, he was almost always occupied with something that did not involve securing his genes in the next generation. "Anything particular I can do for you, m'lord?" He cocked a brow lightly.

Swinging his unruly forelock from his line of vision, Ka couldn't help but allow his gaze to size up the other stallion at the question. Only a bit shorter from himself, which he was use to considering his own height, and certainly fit for the job. Though it wasn't a question of if he was going to ask or not, it was a question of which he should. There was still a slight kink in the back of his neck and a stiffness in his shoulders when he moved into higher gates from that menacing desire he had gotten to defeat his sister in a race; no matter what. And that had meant attempting his suicidal nose dive and landing, which he found had left his body a bit rattled. Meh, he was never one to stray from the temptation of a little brawl with the willing stallions.

With a quirk of his muzzle, almost in the same manner as the eyebrow, he responded, "Naw, nothing in particular. Not too much for a stallion to do nowadays." And wasn't that the bitter truth. He was certain it would be different it- now, now, let's not get caught up in the issues he had with Yi. Again. Like he had for most of the morning. Not much to do at all. That is, except spend his days in solitude wandering the boundary of the territory or with soldiers. Then again, there was always the ever possible sneaking out to other regions that surrounded the boundary, which he did rather often when time permited. You never know when you'll meet up with a willing combatnent out there.

Taking another look at the soldier before him, Ka tried to place a name with the face. He had taken his time, much like any royal when he was younger, to memorize their names. Which Yi seemed to overlook most of the time, that he had been heir before her, and as such had been taught a few things in early life. Now, what was it. Kane? Tawn? No no, none of those sounded right. Ah, that's it. "Tane, right?" Sure the question seemed to come right out of the blue, but it would be good to know such training didn't go to waste.

Tane allowed himself a slightly bitter sigh. The lad was right in that; there was hardly a thing to do anymore besides his job. He had become indifferent from his training, had learned to accept that life is not all fun and games. It was an unfortunate effect of learning the ropes of soldier-hood, though he assumed it was neccesary. He wondered breifly if he'd ever know what to do with his own young some day. If he didn't know how to entertain himself, how could he possibley entertain a colt or filly? "Right you are. Shame, really." He looked around them for a few moments, searching for something of interest but found none. "Besides fight for the herd and go on patrol, there's little to do. Graze, sure, but that only gets you so far." He chuckled a little, knowing full well that the young stallion had caught him red handed grazing lazily while he should've been trotting about briskly. The remark was his way of making a joke of the matter. "Does the prince not have a slave or some lovely lady to keep him occupied?" He cocked a brow, unsure if Ka was interested in all that fluff.

The curly-haired male couldn't help but wonder at the prince's ability to pull names out of thin air. He was certain the pair had never been formally introduced, though Tane knew the other's name well enough. "Yes, m'lord. You have a talent for names and faces, I gather?" He was pretty bad at that sort of thing, whenit came down to it. It took him a while to remember most names and even longer to apply them to a face. The only ones he seemed to ever be able to remember were the royals and few select soldiers he chatted with on days off. With every other mmber of the herd who seemed to know him from somewhere, he fumbled around without a name until he managed to get them to mention it some how.

He bobbed his head to the reasoning, shame indeed. The days were long, hot, and filled with the dry air that spilled out of most of the Jala's tongues as they spoke of things most didn't happen to understand. Yi included, most definatly. It was at the chuckle though that Ka flicked an ear in another direction, listening incase someone might happen upon them. He liked to keep a certain image you see, an image that most would rather stay away from, and therefore not bother to pester him. Unforunatly, his sister seemed immune to such tactics most of the time. "Aye, especially when there's little grass to be had up here", he observed with a flip of his mane. As for the part about his own interests, he flared his nostrils in a bit of a laughing snort. "I wouldn't have a need for a slave, lest the poor creature be as bored as I most of the time", though the thought had occured to him to pick out a rather fiesty colt of any breed and train him to be his sparring partner when the soldiers were scarce. He'd certainly have to ponder over this a bit more.

As for the filly he gave a small shake of his head. "None of which at the moment. Though certainly someone such as yourself must?"[ he returned the question, when truth was mares and fillies of the herd didn't quite take in an interest in the prince. As far as Ka knew anyway. Still, his mind did wander back to a certain non-tear Jala by the name Tsara he had met awhile back. But he thought it best not to bring such things up.

Unfurling his wings to give them a good stretch he gave a bit of an equine shrug. "I suppose, though royals are made to memorize such things at a young age. I'm just lucky its stuck with me for so long", geez, how long has it been since he's been able to have intellgent conversation with someone else? Forever, it seemed.

The stallion nodded, taking a sweeping glance around. The grass was quite sparce around here. If only his patrol lead him to more greener pastures, but alas, he was stuck with this rocky area. It was a crying shame, really. If he were in the more lush sections of the herdlands, however few they may be, he might have time to get to know his fellow herdmates, though he wasn't entirely sure that's what he wanted. He had never been in an incredibley social fellow, but he was an equine, after all, and did crave a little attention now and again. "I dunno, I've been thinking of slaves lately. I figure if I get a high enough quality colt, I could have myself a nice little watch dog." He wasn't sure if that was what he would do with one, but that was one of the plans. Either a watch dog of sorts or perhaps a bodygaurd, should he ever rise in the ranks of soldiers. He didn't see a slave any time in his near future, though, so it mattered little.

Tane was honestly a little surprised to hear that the prince didn't have a filly or two following him about. A royal must be a fine catch for any young female looking for a place of power in the herd, and isn't that what all mares wanted in the end? "Ah, no. I had always planned to go after a mare when I was first starting the training, but it took up far too much time... Now I spend most of my days out in this area, away fom a good portion of the herd." There was a bit of a sad note in that last sentence. He did have the urge to make himself a little army of little ones, though he'd have to find himself a mare first. When it came to that department, he wasn't even certain what he was looking for.

"Ah, that's a good thing, I suppose." He figured if a royal were to walk amoung the citizens, it'd be good for them to know the names of them. It might even make them feel more at home, and create a thicker loyalty. Ah, politics.

Quirking his muzzle in an odd interest as the other stallion spoke about using a slave as a watch dog, Ka pondered over such a possibility. Though he had to admit, he much perfered the possibilty of a sparing partner more so then he did a watch dog. Though he had a strange rumor that Yi had gotten herself a little slave, so at that Ka wasn't quite sure he wanted one anymore. To stoop to her level? Naw he didn't want to do that, besides he could always tease her for getting one whenever the chance came.

"There's always a chance someone might wander away from the good portion and happen up here", the young buckskin reasoned, after all he had somehow managed his way up here, so there was a chance a female may as well. Still, the chances for Tane probably weren't as good as some of the other soldiers he spoke with that were posted closer to the vast majority. Ka had yet to fathom what an actual relationship with a filly would be, for his mind was so thrown into chaos that it was stuck on a one-track session. Take back the power that does not belong in the grasp of fools. And fools his two advasaries were, he had no doubt of that at all. It was a shame really, for certainly Savit would want a few grand-foals running around sooner or later. With that the stallion gave a heavy sigh, perhaps his choice in mare's would bring him more trouble then rejoice.

"Well at least I'm not caught up in trying to get a name out of someone", he spoke lightly on the subject before moving on to another. "Is it just me, or have things been a bit slow activity wise?" Well there had been that rumor about a Bae herd not too long ago, but that's about it. Maybe he ought to opt for a bit of military service while he still had the chance, for it seemed to be what interested him most. Though, such things for a royal, he was sure, must be discouraged.
