It's Father's Day. Don't forget. Or if you did forget, do something about it.

It's the one day of the year where it's absolutely certain that I'm going to be stuck alone and bored shitless.

It really sucks being the only person of my friends with no reason to celebrate.

My dad's celebrating by watching NASCAR, and the rest of us aren't teasing him about falling asleep for the middle portion. It works.

Dad's parents used to own a greenhouse while he was growing up, and a couple of years ago when the greenhouse was torn down, Grandma saved a bunch of the square glass panes and frosted "Alisons Flowers 1939-1978 (Alison is our last name) on them and sent them out to all the kids. We've never gotten around to getting it framed, so Mother and I got it framed for Dad for Father's Day.

We also went to the Snake Alley Art Fair (every year on Father's Day, there's an art fair held on the Snake Alley and up 6th Street. It's pretty cool.). We live literally two blocks from it (parking's a b***h on art fair days, we get people parking in our driveway, blocking the driveway, or if I take my car somewhere, my parking spot is gone), so we just walk up and look around every year. We got Dad a really cool wooden fountain pen made by some guy from Cedar Rapids.

Other than that, we just sat around the house all day. Tonight I'm ditching Dad and going to see the Steamboat Days (Midwest/Mississippi River carnival type thing) fireworks with my friends. whee

This year was more treated as Dad's Birthday rather then Father's Day even though it's both this year.
Went to Outback for an early Dinner with his parents, then went over to my brother's place for cake.
I completely forgot about getting a card for Papa, and didn't even remember that Todd has been a father for four years. sweatdrop
But boy were those singing cards popular this year. eek

We drew "HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!" into the sand on the beach with a giant heart around it, and signed our names underneath.

Then we took a few nice and goofy pictures of the four of us.

Then we emailed it all to him, and each of us typed a paragraph of sentiments.

We all miss him so much, and wish he could've been here with us.
But he's coming back in July, so we can do a late celebration. heart

I forgot.
Then I remembered.
Cause people. And stuff. Parties.

Came home.

Waited.
Went somewhere.
Came back.

They're sleeping.

Uhm.

I'll...
make it up tomorrow.

My dad came to fix my car in the morning before I went to work. The lever to shift wasn't working right (as I discovered the hard way yesterday). And as he was sitting in the living room while I finished getting dressed for work and to inspect the car to make sure it's to my satisfaction -- in the middle of my half-asleep daze, he asked me if I was forgetting three words. Puzzled, I replied "buh?" To which he said "Happy Father's Day?"

Crap. <_<

Nah, he wasn't actually upset though, and he knows I'm not a morning person. I barely knew what day of the week it was (actually, I don't think I was aware of the day even yet), let alone what day it actually was. If he hadn't come by in the morning, I probably would have remembered by the time I had got to work and skulked around a bit and would have given him a call. I don't have enough money to get him something this second, but I think I ought to buy him a watch. He needs one. And I meant to get one for him for Christmas .. then his birthday (May) .. and now I guess is as good of a time ax any, haha.

Me and my dad dont speak.
Which made it pretty fecking easy for fathersday.

I dont even think he knew.

I mean when I called him up to wish him a happy birthday (11th of jan) he didnt even remember it was that day, and totally all of a sudden remembered that my birthday was also soonish... ermm... (28th of December).

So I stayed at home, playing WoW, goofing about with my little gang of dorks online. xd

I spent the entire day with my dad. We were actually at a Civil War Reenactment in Hinton, WV. I think he was just happy to be bringing home his baby girl. 4laugh

We didn't do anything really special though. It was spent mostly driving, but I did remember to say "Happy Father's Day."

Ditto, but it's more like

"girls, my dad died 17 years ago today (today literally), and it's father's day and the day he died, sympathy make outs??"
